BMW X3 - G01 LCI TAIL LAMP UPGRADE RETROFIT FULL INSTRUCTIONS AND WIRING PROCEDURE!

You can upgrade your G01 REAR TAIL LAMPS from BORING to AWESOME! LCI is the next generation updates BMW uses to refresh the look on BMW's. This upgrade makes your G01 look like the newer model year and the tail lamps are AWESOME TO BEHOLD!
BMW changes the wiring pattern on the connectors to prevent an easy swap out. They don't want you to know how to make older BMW's look NEW! In this FULL TUTORIAL I show you how to REPLACE THE REAR TAIL LAMPS with the updated parts AND FULLY REWIRE THE CONNECTORS ON BOTH SIDES!

    Thank you for the video! I just installed LCI tail lights on the M40i and this was very straight forward. Overall, took me about an hour . I had wifey help me with the tail gate connectors, as I used the pin release tool while holding the connector as she lightly pulled the wire out. Also knocked out the Dinan intake kit with the new turbo inlet. That took a bit longer but two new mods knocked out, so it's a good day!

    Hey man, great video and I’ve a question that could make me consider upgrading if you are able to help. The pre lci rear taillights don’t work in daylight on the auto setting as daytime running lights but do the post lci lights work as daytime running lights on the auto setting once installed on the pre lci vehicle?

    Hi Omar, These updated lights are OEM. If the lights are manufactured the same it should also work but I would not be able to say for sure.

    Your welcome. Maybe loosen the nuts and try to position differently. I don't think I had any alignment issues on the one I did.

    Hi Karim, The headlights are a big maybe. They are module controlled instead of direct wiring. That makes it less likely a viable option. For the grill, that is a one piece with active air flaps. I don't think that would be swappable. But if I get a chance to give it a go I will definitely make a video.

    Hi Andres, That is a good question. The cluster is married to the car and has VIN information stored internally. Swapping a cluster could cause a loss of vehicle functions and would cause a manipulation dot. The cluster is not a swappable upgrade unfortunately.

    The tail lights where purchased directly from my local dealership. Other ways to source them may he ebay. We did use original BMW parts. They look amazing!

    2021 was the LCI year. But your vehicle production may not have fell into the LCI. I would imagine my video would apply. You could double check the wires and pins as described in the wiring change and compare to your vehicle.

    Hi Jan, I would think the tail light wiring would be the same. If the vehicle is a hybrid the wiring is different but it should be the same. I would suggest to remove the tail lamp and compare it to the video wiring.

    Swapping of the pins allows the light to work correctly. The new lights are pinned differently. But it is worth the effort!

    The process should be very similar. I have not done this on the F25 but the body did not change with LCI just the tail light design.

    Should be the same wiring. Pay attention to the wire colors. I doubt BMW would make a different harness just for the UK 😆

    Absolutely. They fit perfectly. The shape is the same between model years just the wiring pins that make the swap not a plug and play.

    Hello Yang, They are stock LCI tail lamps purchased at my local dealer. Prices can very by location. Another way to source them would be check junk yards for LCI X3 M40 tail light assemblies.

    Hi Shaun, I am not 100 percent sure on the UK wiring . I suspect it would be the same. I would just access the connector for one tail light and verify the wire color and pins match the same as when I start the wiring change over. If it matches it should be the same changes to make it work.

    Got mine today, the wiring is slightly different on the UK car, there is a blue wire on the outer lights. Must be for the amber turn signals we have. All fitted and working with help from this video. 👍👍

    I got the lights from any BMW dealer. One thing the video doesn’t mention is the drip trims are different from Pre LCI and LCI, it’s doesn’t stop you installing the lights and at first I don’t even notice and to be honest I’m not sure if you really need them. But I ordered some and the part numbers are 51495A06D98 Right 51495A06D97 Left

    No coding needed. The power and ground signals come from the same source. Just need to pin the connector different.

    I shipped my US bought X3 to Spain. Can I install the EU tail lights on my US model? It has rear fog lights and my US version only has a button for the front fog lights. Here in Europe they use yellow intermittent lights for left and right turns. Thanks in advance

    I need to change the tail lights (on my 2022 BMW X3, US spec) for UK spec tail lights (with AMBER rear turn signals)... so, if I buy UK/EU tail lights will they need to be re-coded --- and if so, is the coding/process complicated?

    Hi Stan, I would imagine that type of swap would be plug and play. This was an LCI update change and BMW likes to change the wiring to make a direct swap more difficult.

    Hello Francois, The headlights have modules that send messages to the body computer so the headlights are not updatable. Not sure on the exhaust tips. If the design is the same you could swap over a full muffler that was cut off.

    Hello, Unfortunately I don't think that is possible. The complete body harness would be different as well as other components that would not be compatible. This retrofit was possible because it really is only switching signals and grounds that are the same between both model years.

    LCI grills can not be retrofitted to work on PRE LCI and vice versa. The front is different, and I believe the camera is different.

    @@horsevan316 BMW has a big kit with multiple pin release tools. We used a generic straight release tool to press on the locking tab. I don't have the exact BMW tool number unfortunately.

    Hello Celil, I was able to dig up the part numbers all start with 63 23 9 463....the last three digits of each light are 049, 050, 055, 056.

    You also must ensure you purchase the upgraded drip trims, as the pre-lci trims differ.

    Is there a difference between us and euro version in installation or both the same? And do i need coding for them to work?

    Hi Mohamed, I am pretty sure the wiring for both will be the same. I am in the US market so if you check your G01 for the original pin locations it will verify it is the same. And NO CODING REQUURED 😀

    @@AskTheCarExperts for us version, the outer tail light has 3 pins only, and for euro version, outer tail light has 4 pins , so I just exchange the yellow wire with the ground (brown wire) only??? And for the inner tail light both us and euro version have the same wiring

    As for euro version brake light separated from turn signal, not as in us version, so my question here is that I just swap the yellow wire with the ground one as u did in the car of us specification for outer tail light??

    @@MohamedAhmed-yu7dq I would have to check the wiring diagram for your vehicle to be sure. I am not sure if I cam pull that up on my end but if you send me the last seven of the VIN o will check for you.

    doesn't confuse people when they see it and notice that its not the lci model of the x3 as soon as they see the front?

    Hi AGZ, The owner which is a friend of mine has not had anyone notice the difference. He likes the look of the rear lights so we swapped them out. I definitely like the look!

    Hello, BMW changed the internals of the taillights so power signals to the lights do not activate the correct light. This helps prevent people from making their vehicle look like the updated version. But there is a way around this by changing the pin / wire configuration.

    Somehow I prefer the existing lights, maybe just me. I’m not a fan of the LCI upgrades

    The original lights are definatley still nice. Definately a preference but it was fun to show how the upgrade could be performed on a non LCI.

    I once had an 2013 E70 X5 LCI and now with an 2017 F15 X5, BMW didn't do an LCI on the F15. So I dunno hahaha

    Does this need any coding? I read somewhere online that it needs coding via bimmercode but someone forum members say it’s not needed. Are yours working properly without coding?
