I'm glad im not the only one who broke my top hose. Wish I saw this video first. I busted mine after removing my charge pipe several times. New hose arrives today

For that last little hose for the reservoir, all you had to do is use a flathead screwdriver to open the clip out, and after putting the hose back in place, just crimp it back together again.

I just did the same thing yesterday and I'm waiting on the new part. Looks like it's going to be a messy job with the fluid loss. I'll have to look up the bleeding process as well as figure out what fluid these use. I have 2012 335is with N54. Happened removing the fan. Ugh.

I lost maybe a half gallon of fluid. The bleeder valve is on the reservoir, or you can top it off and crank it up with reservoir cap off until thermostat opens. 335is is a sweet ride. Thanks for watching!

The little clamps are permanently crimped on from the factory. I cut the hose at the end, 1 inch or so; and still had enough hose to reach new pipe. I used a generic replacement clamp. I suppose you could carefully attempt cut factory clamp with a Dremel, but wasn’t worth the hassle for me.

flatten the clamp (half way) with pliers then you can remove it.

How is the o ring inside the hose supposed to go I pulled mines of to change my ofhg but I can’t remember how the hose is supposed to go

It’s hard to say without being able to see it. There’s an awesome Facebook Group called N54Tech. If you post some pictures on there, myself or one of the other guys should be able to help.

Hey Luke I need help. The hose that connects to the radiator is absolutely sealed onto the radiator. The pin came out easy but it is absolutely stuck. I tried to be as gentle as possible, tried prying it with screwdrivers etc, did not work. Moved my way to a wrench which I knew was plastic but ended up breaking off altogether with the hose clip of the radiator. The problem is the hose is STILL stuck to that part even though it came out with the hose. Do you have any tips or at home products so I can get it back off?? I'm planning to put the radiator lock back with an adhesive if that works.

I would spray white grease/oil/Wd40 in the plastic where the hose connects and let it sit. Then I would carefully try and tap it off using a flat head screwdriver and hammer. If this does not work, I would carefully cut it off which a small cutoff wheel/dremmel. Hope this helps. Sorry you’re having to go through that. There is a slight possibility yours got so hot that it’s melted on somehow. If this is the case, you may need a radiator, but they are easy to put in.

At 12 min mark, you said "the lower one." What is that hose called? Thats the one I am trying to find a replacement for but even real OEM doesnt list what it is called. 07' E90 N51, any help would be greatly appreciated.

No, it is not necessary. You will need to top off coolant however. Remember, if you decide to flush it, you will need to bleed the coolant system.

Life of Luke I’m new into cars myself just got a 74k mile F22 so I’m trying to take care of the stuff that’s gonna go out soon. My homie told me in order to replace the upper hose I’d have to bleed it and fully refill it again saying ima need like 2 gallons of bmw antifreeze but he don’t have a bmw just other drift cars so I’m confused

No worries; I’m happy to try and help! If you’re just replacing top hose, you’ll only lose about a quart of fluid and won’t need to bleed the system, just top it off. If you’re doing preventative maintenance/replacing radiator/all hoses, you will need to bleed system after refill of coolant. It’s easy though via the bleeder valve.

Damn hose on my daughter E90 won’t come off on the radiator side. Scared to pull too hard and break the radiator.

Tap the edges of hose end with flat head screwdriver and hammer. Be gentle. Don’t break the radiator hose neck.

Great video fam, however, there is a seal in the top end of the hose that I didn’t see you mention.

elwalther21 you might be able to get by with just replacing O ring inside the hose. Honestly, I would just replace entire hose if it’s leaking, to be on safe side.

Did you have to top off the coolant after?

@@lifeofluke8620 You should be bleeding it anytime you open the cooling system. Its entirely made of plastic and is extremely sensitive to pressure. Add in the hot temps. these engines see you should definitely bleed it. Unchecked, parts will start to break. Maybe not instantly but you are losing life not bleeding it. Especially being a radiator hose and im pretty sure the bottom one is for your heater which is even more sensitive. All you have to do is turn on the ignition and hold down the gas pedal for 10 seconds. Why would you not bleed it? Are you really that lazy?

@@stevesas632 everything closed. Run procedure. Wait 5 min. Top off. Run it again. Usually twice is enough if you just doing water pump or thermostat or a hose or two. Anything past that, you’ll have to run the procedure 3-4 times. Make sure air is on highest heat setting with fan on lowest setting.

Don’t you need to bleed the radiator after losing so much fluid? You introduced a lot of air bubbles in the system.

I just topped it off and let the engine run for a few min with coolant cap off. I thought I might need to bleed it, but it was fine.

Good eye! I have since fixed that and replaced the valve cover as well.

Today BMW dealership tried to charged me $995 to change this exact upper radiator hose 🙄

Hope the video helps. Only takes about 30 min to change and $60 for hose and coolant.

10 years or 100k just change

mine broke the same spot when I removed the fan. BMW cooling system is one of the poorest designs of all the vehicles I work on. Just a money pit.

Yeah all the plastic on these cars cannot stand the test of time. The plastic charge pipes on these cars fail often as well.
