The 2008 BMW was without a doubt one of the most extreme F1 cars from the modern era regarding aerodynamic downforce. The amount of winglets was insane and I wouldn't be surprised if it was part of the reason the FIA stepped up and said: "Yup, this has gone too far"

Well tbh that team wasn't Sauber at all. When BMW bought Sauber in 2005 it was a full takeover. They only kept the name Sauber for historical reasons, and during that time people generally refered to the team only as BMW. It wasn't like it is nowadays with Alfa Romeo being just a title sponsor.
Those 2009 cars aren't the prettiest, but they sound amazing!
