I had changed the plugs and it did not fix the issue. I watched your video, there were no holes in the boot BUT the hose leading into the boot was allowing a big air leak. I seated the hose properly, the leak stopped and the car ran perfectly. Thank you so much for posting this as I was about to replace the VANOS. You saved me big money, time and the frustration of fixing the wrong issue!

If you have a misfire at idle that smooths out the more you rev it, that's an almost-certain vacuum leak - at idle, the engine is taking in very (legit) little air, so the extra air from a vacuum leak comprises a higher percentage; as the revs increase, the (legit) airflow increases and the vacuum leak contributes less and less to the _overall_ air intake. For example, an idling engine with a vacuum leak might be taking in 20% too much air, but only 2% too much at full throttle; the ECU can easily compensate for the latter, but not the former.

Check your injector O rings sometimes, there is a click click and the cylinder tries to push the injector out but the fuel rail won't give. Had terrible idle, shaking exhaust, dying engine on the signal lights. Pure humiliation. Smoke test and soapy water unveiled torn o rings. Car is finally relearning the fuel adaptations. Now it's ok

so i have an 04 bmw 325i i have a random misfire but it only happens if i sit at a stop sign or a redlight too long, i have to turn my vehicle off mid drive and turn it back on mid drive (The guy i got it from put a pop and bang tune on it. could that be a tune issue? i've been digging at this for the past year and can't figure it out

I just bought 2004 330i with hot air mass air flow sensor code and transmission light on but idled smooth. Going from the codes I bought a new Delphi mass air flow sensor which got rid of the hot air mass air flow sensor code as well as the transmission warning light. But now the car idles horribly. The weird thing is that the car idles great with the mass air flow sensor unplugged. But as soon as I plug the new Delphi mass air flow sensor back in it starts to misfire on several cylinders. I bought two new Delphi mass air flow sensors and still the same. Did I get two bad mass air flow sensors? Or is there something else causing this issue? Looking forward to your help.

I have a 2005 645ci, my car gradually started misfiring, mainly on cold starts...we smoke machined it, replaced with all new Eldor coils and Bosch plugs, even replaced vacuum booster o rings. ( Was leaking badly ) Next is the Vanos Solenoids!...It really amazes me that the OBDII can't tell you exactly what's causing the misfiring...I guess it's process of elimination when dealing with BMW'S Glad I didn't spend the $80k for this beautiful POS!

Hey guys the disa valve even though it doesn't control idle air in any way it is really bad for being a major vacuum leak. I spent days trying to fix my idle and stalling issue. I ended up borrowing a smoke tester and it poured out from around the disa valve. They have a factory like glued in orange oring peel that out with a pic until it's clean find a thin regular oring and your problem will be solved. The lower intake boots are also real prone to crack but that's an easy one to locate.

Thank you for this video. I was going crazy trying to figure out why my 2001 Z3 was idling rough at start up. I check the coils, changed the spark plugs and still nothing. I just saw this video and checked my hoses to find out they were torn. I ordered the hoses and will post if this took care of the issue. in any case I believe it will since I tried everything else. Hi means to what EML ON A BMW 320CI

Also the ccv system gets brittle inspect it or bypass via a catch can setup or plum it back into the vacuum plenum on top of the intake with a pcv valve inline.

The ccv if it's failing can cause it to pull oil up the dipstick tube into the vacuum plenum and it'll be burning lots of oil.

hopefully someone answers and knows what i’m talking about, but i checked all my cylinders and they were all running good except for cylinder 1, but i know for a fact that the coil pack and spark plug is good since i just bought brand new ones to try and fix the problem. I voltage tested the signal wire and it was good, so i am at a complete loss on why cylinder 1 isn’t firing. anyone help maybe?

My E39 520i (M54B22) has now 425 000 km and runs smoother than ever, mostly on LPG btw. One issue with these engines which is VERY often overlooked and therefore rarely mentioned: 🤓 On the M54 and M52, the hydraulic lifters OFTEN clog due to heat and cause all kinds of engine issues and fault codes, incl. misfires (!) but NONE of these codes actually mention to check the hydraulic lifters - they always "blame" another part. Hence you end up replacing alot of parts which might still be good without getting to the root cause. Try HYDRAULIC LIFTER CLEANING FLUID first, this stuff is meant to do just that, and it often really works! This is the simplest fix for your M54 and M52 engine, and you can't really hurt the engine with cleaner lifters, even if there is another fault as well. Think of it as Vitamins for your engine! And please: Try it first, comment and thank me later 😉

Yes, it's a great idea. No need to replace it after that, just wash it, grease it up and you're good to go. Also, it does add a bit of horsepower, and the sound of the car kinda changes. Basically no reason to not have one.

Hey there, BMW new owner here, I have seen a couple of videos here, and most of the BMWs cold start idle rev is around 500-600, is that normal in BMWs? cuz I just got word from a mechanic I know that I needed to buy the VSS (vehicle speed sensor or the acceleration sensor or something like that), because he noticed how the car sounded a little too high for idling, and my idles are always between 500-600 also... is this normal or he is trying to pull up strings on me?

BMW engines are mostly set up to idle between 600-800 rpm.It's because of reducing the friction on the engine moving parts.

@@ashleyren22 I have a 2006 323i and mine does nearly the same. Mine would continue shaking until it cuts out or until I turn it off and start it again. I've changed the vanos replaced catalytic convertor and even did a down pipe, but it is still doing it. This weekend I'm working on the choke hopefully that will fix it

Anyone have cold start very rough Idle and got Codes for Missfires cylinders 4,5,6?

Thanks for the video. I have a 2006 325i with rough idling and misfiring cylinder 3, I changed all the plugs and put a new coil in cylinder 3, no change. Pressure in that cylinder is less than the other 5, reading close to 105 while the rest are averaging 150. What should I do next?

this may sound stupid but it is a simple test to verify the piston rings. Add a bit of oil to the cylinder with less compression then the others and run the test again. if the compression improves with the oil inside the cylinder it means there is something wrong with the piston rings themselves or the piston. if there is no improvement take the head of or use a camera to look inside the cylinder and check the valves themselves.

Can somebody help me out please. I have a 2008 BMW 328i. It recently started shaking but it only shakes sometimes and only when it's at idel only. When I bring the rpm up it seems to smooth out but I've also noticed If i hold the rpm say 1500 it'll drop by itself to about 1000 and then come back up, I've also noticed that when I turn it on it makes like a whistle noise that will sometimes continue to whistle or will only last a few seconds, but it always whistles when I turn it on then fades out. No check engine light. I've tried looking for a broken vaccum line with gas but no luck. Also the engine doesn't always shake it's like 80% of the time but it does whistle when I turn it on.If you have any thoughts I would appreciate it thank you.

If you hear a whistle noise your car is sucking in more air than needed. Check your crankcase ventilation valve it's built into your calve cover. The rubber seal inside can be torn. .

Clean out or change your vanos solenoids, same thing happened to mine and fixed when I cleaned out my vanos solenoids

the whistling noise could also be the secondary airpump. These run during the warm up cycle and then stop. This could cause the sound to fade out eventually

Check engine will always be there, you can problem diagnose the problem by finding out what’s not running right

You need to check the "short term fuel trims" - a vacuum leak will have positive values of at least 20% because the computer is trying to add more fuel to compensate for the extra air.

Hi! I got a E92 bmw 2007 , 2.5i 92.000 miles on the clock..The problemI got is the engine just cut of at lower speed. lee Zek my intake is ok, I put a bottle of Lucas injector cleaner in the gasoline, it appears the problem seems to go away.

David Nguyen I’ve checked my coils and you wouldn’t what was making the car missfire? The latch that closes the coil wasn’t shut properly on the 6th coil. I’ve made sure the coil was working properly and closed it. That got rid of the problem 😜 Make sure you check that your coils are working (and shut properly lol) that should fix the problem

Misleading video but a simple way to check for vacuum leaks is spray some carb cleaner around all the intakes hoses and underneath where the crankcase valve and hoses are. No need to disassemble everything.

That’s the most obvious and that’s not cracked it’s completely destroyed!

the very faint background music is really annoying. trying to listen for the misfire and listen to your voice and the very slight music makes it hard to focus on what you're saying.

Uncle Tom Whitelash how often are the fuel injectors go haw, is this a common problem on e46. I checked my intake and there is no leaks or cracks. I did change the coil and spark plug. I put a bottle of Lucas injector cleaner and the rough idle appears to go away.

Why the fck u rice up a bmw with a cheapass china hook?

Once you get a misfire, just throw it away and buy a Honda. Even after you fix it it’ll just come back worse
