A my car is a 99 BMW 328i with the e46 sports motor in it and I'm having a hell of a time I have a serious power draw in it that is sucking a full amp of power every time I shut it off. I have no after market accessories in it and I took it to the shop and the mechanic charges me 250.00 to tell me the draw was not located in the fuse box anywhere...idk what to do.

I watched this video and noticed it was a Crack in my intake boot. Very knowledgeable and worth watching

first bmw i have seen with a full tank.

If your car starts then shuts off make sure everything’s connected that’s why it’s shutting off then go to mass airflow if it starts check all wiring and connections my throttle wasn’t connected down low on my bmw n I had to do this

Love the videos so far, you guys are awesome for sharing the knowledge. I'm working on my friend's 2005 X5 3.0i, and I changed his battery to a Optima yellow top AGM battery because his old battery was no longer good. My issue now is that his vehicle is doing exactly what this video is showing, but the only thing I've done is changed the battery. Prior to me changing the battery, the vehicle would run fine, but had to be jumped. I've learned that the computer needs to be reset after a battery replacement. Is there a way to do the reset without taking it to BMW? Please help us!! Thanks guys

That ICV is also used in e36 m50/52 engines.

Don’t immediately replace the Idle Air Controller. First, remove the device and check for ease of actuation by hand. Spray the inside THROUGHLY. Work it back and forth. Spray it again and again while working it manually. Reinstall it and run the engine looking for improvement. But, like he said, there are most likely also a TON of rubber hoses and boots that are ALSO cracked and leaking on the way to reaching the Idle Air Controller. So, replace ALL of those that need it at the SAME time. EDIT: Although the Idle Air Controller is a very common issue, it is actually RARE that it fully failed. It’s most likely gummed up with carbon, and can be very simply cleaned and reinstalled.

@@eeemuse Yeah, I used spray brake cleaner; it worked phenomenally. BUT --> I'm not sure it was the right choice in the long run as it's a pretty harsh chemical. Although, mines still the 2002 factory unit with 186,000 miles on it and it's still operating correctly after I cleaned it with brake cleaner.

on the m52/54 there's only the two boots between the throttle body IAC and MAF... IAC goes into a large grommet in the intake manifold. Those boots DO crack commonly(with mileage especially) Hope it helps someone some day.... ;)

My E46 330 has been parked for 2 years now. Last week i tried to start it up and clean the car, and it didn't stay idling and the first thing i noticed the crack on the intake hose just like yours. Got the replacement hose from eBay and going to replace it this week and see if that is the only problem for now. Hopefully nothing else is broken.

Had the same issue with our 2003 Z4. We noticed upon exiting the vehicle that the driver's door wasn't closed all the way, but apparently enough that the "door open" notification didn't go off. Once the door was closed completely, it hasn't died again when stopping or idling (8 months now). Safety feature? Haven't seen anything about this scenario to know for sure.

It's possible to program the ECU to shut off engine if doors are open. But one must confirm it with ecu reading.

I had a similar problem with my E91. Whenever I stop at the lights, or I'm stuck in traffic, however briefly, the engine starts to stall and dies. To recover from the stall I had to take my foot off the brake so the car rolls slightly forward - and as long as the wheel turns, the engine recovers. Yeah, I know, stup1d. I sent the car to the workshop a few times and they said they cant find any error codes. Very, very frustrating. But there was a happy ending to all of this. It looks like the culprit was a leaky gasket - as every time I started the car I could smell petrol. Due to limited funds, and the fact it wasn't I considered critical - no oil stains on my driveway (the leaky oil just ends up in a tray) - I didn't fix the leaky gasket until much later. Like why would a leaky gasket cause my E91 to stall right? Anyway, after that was fixed, the stalling STOPPED COMPLETELY. That was 2 years ago, and it never ever happened again. I'm not a car expert, but thought I'd share this in case someone is in the same situation as me

Mine is intermittent. Lights on: eml, amber break light, service engine blinking. Runs normally for about 5 minutes and dies. After it goes into limp mode.

My 320 msport done this. But then completely died now won’t start but no codes coming up

If I press the gas pedal to keep running for a minute, mine will stay running once warm 🤷 Any ideas what this could be? I'll check the IAC motor but I don't think that's it, no vacuum leaks I found. 😥

Check your DISA valve. If it’s worn out or not. If it’s worn out, replace the Rubber o ring and the flapper, easy fix with the repair kit for DISA valve.

My codes giving me P1512 n when I search that on KZread it's saying disa valve

m54 engine revving when going to iddle then it will stall or shut off. afterwards it give me lean codes bank 1 and 2 and no longer stalls but fuel consumption is high.

@@jesusalexanderbracamontes1913 I finally got my engine to work almost perfect no more. I had bad spark. So what I did I changed everything coils spark plugs fuel injectors maf sensor ICV after I did this I started to get only rich condition. So I changed all O2 sensors and now my engine don't rev stall or have rough idle. Also check the ends of the catalytic the bolts can be deteorated and air might be leaking from there I also did some fixing in that section. Good luck.

my 318ci has a similar issue but it idles fine, just sometimes when im slowing down the engine cuts out randomly. it has no issues starting up again and sounds and feels fine other than when it cuts out. any ideas what could be causing this?

The BMW dealership in Kansas said they have no idea how to fix this issue on my 2007 X3. I will send them this. They said they will refund my money and want me to pick up my car. So sad!

I’m having this same issue. Matching symptoms. The other thing that’s happening is that if I get it to hold the idle by starting it while hitting the gas, the car shakes very violently. Is this also a symptom for this issue ?

Here’s an example of what my car does I drive home at night and wake up the next morning to go start the car idles fine but then sometimes when you put it in gear and just like let it roll it’ll just like shut off like it’s in neutral it doesn’t lose power but the engine completely does sometimes if I press the gas fast enough the car doesn’t do it after I drive the car for like maybe like 3 minutes. It’s fine drives normally. It’s not the maf there’s a new one in it already

Great video, but everything about these cars is shit!! The materials quality is absolutely horrible. Every time you turn around there is something you have to replace. So much for the overrated and expensive ultimate driving machine.
