BMW entered the world of cars in 1929 and quickly became known as one of the best manufacturers of luxury motor vehicles. Some of its most notable early cars were the roadsters, exciting and attractive roofless toys that tore up the European roads and racetracks.
We explore the earliest roadsters from BMW, from the 315/1 and 319/1 to the amazing 328 and look at the post war beauty that was the 507 as well as leaping forward in time to the latest generation of roadsters, the Z series.

Where is the most beautiful Roadster model? The Z3!! Incomplete!!!
Z3 missing...the most sold BMW roadster in the brand's history! and clearly not the hardest to find for this vid, right?! haha
a beautiful film, but I miss BMW Z3, with him would be the movie perfect
Everyone here is asking "where's the Z3" and I'm over here like..."where's the Z4 M???"
I can't believe you didn't show the Z3. What a shame. There are so many enthusiasts that would have really enjoyed that.
I think you missed a generation of the Z4 2004 to 2008 and especially the coupe model.
My beautiful 2004 z4 still turns heads. Thx for including it. :)
Masterpieces of automotive history. It was a treat to see these during my trip to the BMW Museum in Munich at the BMW Welt. The 507 was sitting in the middle with no ropes around it. It was amazing to get right up and close to the car to see the details!
Nice and informative. But I agree, you should have included the M roadsters (Z3M and Z4M)
The Z8 is my favourite BMW and the Z1 doors are arguably the most awesome doors ever, I feel privileged to have seen one.
I love my z3 2.8 and all of the bmw roadsters... If they had included the z3m and z4m this video would have been epic...
I've been putting off watching XCar films for a while, and after watching, I can't remember why. I think it's time to fill an empty spot in my subscription box. Brilliant film.
Another top class video. Z8 is my dream car. Just a bit disappointed that the Z4m wasn’t even mentioned, the last m car engine in a roadster.
where's the z3?!

@ 14:33 they mention it briefly and say it "wasn't very sporty". WTF morons! I think it's because today it isn't as expensive as all the others shown. lol
Great video guys! Good to have you back.. :D
It’s a shame missing the Z3. Probably the easiest to find in good shape, Bond car and a commercial success for the brand. It’s just like watching some doc about the Brazilian Football Team and forget the 1994 squad: not the most brilliant but a contemporaneous successful squad.
The Z3 is really sporty! In my opinion, it’s one of the nicest and funniest cars to drive with!
about the 507: "this was built for the californian mountain roads" - no, it was built for the bavarian country roads.
This is absolutely beautiful. The 507 and Z8 are near perfection if you ask me. Great production of you guys too. My compliments.

Have been doing that for the past few days already, but I appreciate the link guys!
Don't know what these guys were thinking not to give the Z3 props. It clearly ages better than the Z4 and so much classier. Wanting to see a Z3 is what brought me here in the first place. What a shame.

Miguel Arce-Goitia Yeah that's bullshit. The Z3 has a big role in BMW's history, as it is the first mass market roadster they made. The guys in this video are a bunch of pricks.
What you said about the Z3 has really pissed me off. You obviously have no appreciation (or knowledge?) for the first roadster made by BMW (in the late 20' century) to break the market and be put on such a big line of production, compared to the previous roadster (Z1) and bring BMW into the world of popular 2 seater drop tops. If this video was made to show the history of BMW's roadsters, than I have absolutely no idea why you did not give the Z3 its earned respect. Besides, not sporty enough? I recommend you to try driving a Z3M or at least the 2L/2.8L straight 6 version. The amount of joy that you would get from driving one of these in indescribable. Seating inside the Z3 is just amazing. It's so beautiful and classy, yet simple to keep it sporty and authentic- just you and the road) The power that you'd feel kicking the rear wheels would make you smile like an idiot. I respect you for producing such a great and beautiful video about BMW's roadsters, but you can't just cut a off a piece of history.

I have a 2001 Z3 roadster 3.0i 5 speed with the M Sport option and the 2 piece wheels in black and tan. Probably the best Z3 produced. The M was faster but you would have to mortgage your house if it broke. Plus, it is 3 series technology which you don't have to have a degree in computer engineering to fix. It's handling and power are far beyond my capabilities to get the best of. All for less that $10k four years ago with 55k on the clock. Best money I ever spent.
Great work guys, well done.
That 507 though... Jaw dropping beauty. Still undervalued in my opinion :)
Where is the Z3 ? The first most best selling roadster of BMW is not in the list?

Thats an awful car
Absolutely beautiful video. I love the photography and the color grading that changed between each car. Thank you for a great lesson in the classics!
The 507 is just my dream car, it's absolutely amazing! I will be able to drive one someday
Z4-M was one of the best ever made IMO. The clutch and gear shift were nice and heavy and the sound of that naturally aspirated straight six was mind blowing.

I had to decide between a 2005 Boxster S and a M Roadster, going for the porker. A Boxster is a great chassis with a good motor, the M Roadster is a great motor in a good chassis...

That sounds like a very tough choice to make. Personally I'd go for the Bavarian back road stormer, but that would be out of pride, than any form of logical sense (Bayrischen stolz!).

As a BMW owner and a lover of all cars in general, this video is simply fantastic. I could watch it over and over again
Superb video - history and passion are a great combination. Thanks.
Wow!!! Outstanding video! Very informative!
Yes,XArt is back...I mean XCar.....and this is wonderful video....you guys did a great job...it was worth waiting for.
Beautiful piece, that Z8 is just gorgeous.
Great video, guys. I surely will check out your other works.
I was genuinely excited to see the notification email for this video :) But I have to ask, why all the hate for the Z3? And don't forget Weissman when it comes to beautiful German cars.
Great video, I have a BMW Z4 E89 and I absolutely love it, it's a sophisticated and wonderful machine as well as gorgeous!
Great Video but not reviewing the Z3 because "its not very sporty" is disheartening. Larger engine Z3s were great handling cars. Also Tiff Needell says it was one of the best handling cars of its time. It was the last proper roadster that BMW made.
Excellent, excellent, excellent video. Thank you for making this. It was really cool to learn a little bit about the history of BMW and the history of their roadsters. Well done!
Brilliant! Loved this video

That was beautiful. Thank you.
these videos are really well made. bravo!
Another great video guys
A pity the original Z4 E85 was missed out. It's a very special car. A bit negligent to miss out the flawed but lovely Z3 as well. A real curate's egg of a video: good in parts.
"2000 BMW M Roadster - The four-cylinder Z3 was a bit of a snooze, but the M Roadster with 240 hp and a 0-60 time of around five seconds is a Gen-X Shelby Cobra. Quad chrome pipes out the back, fat tires, special side grilles and M badges identify this very special Z3. We believe in the years to come this car will be highly desired by collectors for its gracious curves and powerful engine." Hagerty 2010 Hot List: Decade in review January 10, 2010 Drive a Z3M!
Awesome BMW Video! Had not seen this before! Really spectacular to see all these BMWs together like this. The Z4 with the twin turbo six cylinder and the manual gearbox is a worthy successor to the Z8.
I like your passion and that's what earned you my subscription
awesome and informative video xcar.
I really enjoyed this video!!
never subscribed because I always thought your videos were subpar compared to bigger channels like motor trend. but after this and that pagani video you guys have finally turned me into a subscriber. keep up the good work!
Great job on this one, worthy of awards.
you're videos are simply awesome.
Awesome production on this one guys, one of your finest videos to date! Keep it up!
Wonderful video, I really hope your subscriber base goes up with videos like this you deserve it! And in my opinion the 507 is the prettiest car to come out of Germany
Bmw roadster without z3..?
what a VIDEO! spectacular! keep it up gents!
Probably one of the best videos I've ever seen. Had to download it so I could watch it again - sorry if that doesn't sit well with your number of views (broadband is expensive here in South Africa). As a BMW man this was a real treat and the 328 & 507 are perfection. Keep up the good work guys. In a short few months you guys have become my go-to-channel. Keep testing the classics!
I really like the longer form video you guys did hear. Great job, great cars.
GREAT VIDEO GUYS! Love the facts and the details!
Superb, thanks a lot for that. I'm not fan of BMW, but this video was so great that BMW have now a better place in my mind :-).
one of the reasons i subscribed to this channel ...coz
Wonderful video. You just moved to a whole new level. Look out EVO and the rest...
One of the best reviews of any car or car lineage I have ever seen, keep it up chaps, simple wonderful
Man your videos are really good
the z3m was awesome, shouldnt have skipped over it
TOP NOTCH REVIEWS MATE LOVE IT
I am about to buy a 2001 BMW roadster! Can't wait!
For you to dismiss the Z3 is a crime. You have invalidated all your other opinions. I won't waste my time watching your other videos.

Great piece guys! great music and editing! Warp Stabilizer rules! ha!
Oh why do you make such excellent videos.
Thank you!
wonderful video, the latest z4 was one of the first cars to get me interested in cars. obtainable dream one day i think :)
Great video. Nice history lesson with some gorgeous machines. I had no idea BMW was in so much trouble for so long.
Liked it and fav'd it straight away :) now to enjoy watching :D
Great video guys! That Z8 is one of my personal favourites. But I also love the first generation Z4. Gorgeous car.
Nothing for 2 weeks then 20 minutes on BMW Roadsters... It was worth the wait!!
***** Looking back at some of the older videos you've made, I think the final quote of this video really applies to you too... "We've seen how far XCAR has come, but the question is 'where can they go next?" Keep up the great work guys!
awesome production.
Amazing documentary directing, just wow, mind blowing and of course amazing cars ;)
wohooo BMW !! good stuff xcar !
very well done!!!
had a bowl of tortillas and a Beck's + this video = such a pleasure! great work! may do something similar with the coupes? regards from Hamburg :)
Good video!
It's relevant BMW history and can't be ignored!
This is a nice video, but completely ignoring the Z3 suggests an odd bias.

Superb film, guys and gals. But oh my, that 507 is a pretty thing. Pure, classic beauty.
Ok I'm 9 seconds in and already excited!
exquisite video~!
that 507 has to be the most beautiful thing ever put on four wheels... WANT
Well said !
"You can feel the hollywood class oozing from it." Hollywood-class, an oxymoron of the highest order. Great video once again.
why is the Z3 not sporty enough, never driven a Z3 M? Or other 6 cyl. Z3 as 2L / 2.8L
nice video, nice ending music! lovely

EXCELLENT! That was worth it purely for the classic roadsters ... though the Z1 was ... INTERESTING!
Gorgeous film!! Ever since I've discovered the existance of 507 I've been aching to see a proper video of it since I doubt I'll ever see one cruising by. Thank you!! I believe this could be an even longer video or ... there could even be a dedicated video for every model you've shown. Would you mind making it?? :)
just amazing!..loved it!..
the 303 sounds awesome!
Have to say guys I rarely comment on videos but 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 That was awesome! M
