BMW R90/6 - Engine Teardown - Crankshaft Removal

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Ever wonder what the inside of those weird BMW airhead motors looked like? In this video we complete the teardown of the heart of the BMW R90/6 and take a look at the condition of the various bearings, bushings and rotating parts of our motor.
Since this motor is getting new 1000cc pistons and cylinders, and shiny rebuilt dual-plug heads, we want to make sure it's going to last for as long as possible, so the crankshaft is coming out and everything is getting measured up to make sure it's all within specification.

Nicely done. I am kinda in the same boat. On my 88 GS, I found slight pitting on the followers and quite a bit of scoring on the oil pump rotors. To judge the damage, I pulled the crank-rod bearings too and same story there. Not bad, but there is visible scoring. How did you get the crank reassembled?

Thanks. I have a couple other videos showing putting the motor back together with new bearings, including the main bush bearings and conrod bearings, check em out.

Definitely feel smarter watching you work. But honestly these engines are fine as they are for another 50 years with such minuscule wear.

Thanks. You're right, of course, this motor still had a long healthy life ahead of it if left untouched, but since we're doing some pricey upgrades we thought it best to make sure it was in top condition!
