I've had my R1200RT since December, 2014. Took it from Boston to Nova Scotia and was impressed with it's handling, power and touring attributes. Just completed a 4,000 mile, Seattle to Boston trip, with the bike and I like it even more now. Hit the start button and go. Good range, spirited ride in the twisties, nice torque. To me, it epitomizes the "Sport-Touring" category.

Looks like that bike was fitted with the low seat and fixed in the low position too. The normal seat at the taller height probably would have suited him better.

I also loved that bike until it had to go back to Germany because of a suspension issue, but BMW gave me a brand new K1600GT as a replacement, now although heart broken about my RT1200 this beast of a 6 cylinder 1600cc grew on me and although I would have never bought this bike as a first choice I will not replace it, but the RT1200 has a very soft spot in my heart!

It's at the Picton airport in Prince Edward County, Ontario. It was originally built in WWII and still works as a local airport but many of the old hangars and barracks are still standing and converted to small businesses.

It's a good bike, just a notch up the costs ladder from japanese, and shops/dealers fewer. I see some police moving away for similar reasons. They've sold millions though and it's been a cash cow for them.

  • @trailingarm63

You don't really need a shop/dealer network. The boxers don't go wrong very often and any local shop can service or fix them using mailorder for the parts if necessary. They are more expensive than some Japanese competitors but the difference is worth it. Great shaft drive, great cruise control, extremely comfortable, light for what they are, etc, etc, etc. I sound like I work for the company, I don't, but I like to see fair play. FJR - not as comfy, Concourse - no cruise control, heavy, ST1300 - heavy, dated. Triumph Trophy - good competitor but discontinued. The Suzuki V-Strom is a cheap option (good engine) but chain drive and I'm not sure if it has cruise control.

I ride a R1150rt. When I looked at the R1200rt, it may be lighter, nice headlights etc. but the front looks like a bus - ugly. In my opinion, it did not need such a big chunky front fairing. Mine is compact & works brilliantly in all weather conditions.

I have a Harley and a 2015 1200rt-since I got the rt I haven't been back on the HOG! Took it out west last summer and did Wyoming, SD and Montana and I was the only rider in a group of five that really was comfortable every day of the 1800 mile trip. Great bike!! I wish the compatible audio system used a Sena hook-up though so I could talk to other riders. LOVE THIS BIKE!

I had a 2004 R1150RT and traded it on a 2010 RT1200RT. No regrets, the 1200 runs way better and is lighter too. I liked the 1150 appearance better and it seems more solid but the camhead motor is way more smooth and has more torque when you need it.
