BMW R1200RT 2017 test ride and some thoughts

Bahnstormer Alton were kind enough to invite me to test ride the 2017 BMW R1200RT and this is the short video of that test ride.

Folks who have never ridden an RT don’t know what they’re missing. It’s one of the best, if not THE best, bikes on the planet. Other bikes, including other BMW’s, are good, but the RT is superlative. Once you ride one you may wonder what the point is in riding anything else. Worth every penny!

Couldn't agree more. Bought a full equipped 2016 model last august and cannot wait for the upcomming season. Simply the finest tourer ever made.

I have a 2018 model rt le.There have been a couple a couple of changes from the 2017 model. The most significant is that the gearbox is even smoother. As regards the gearshift pro,the way you are using it is wrong. On up changes, you must not throttle off, keep the throttle on and with the down shift, close the throttle fully before you shift, this will result in super smooth dear shifts. The exception to this is the shift between 1st and 2nd.I always change manually between these gears as they do not suit the gear shift pro system very well. Enjoyed the review.

Great vid! Comprehensive and contemplative comments on the bike. And I can concur on your points about the bike. I got one myself. One of many bikes I´ve ridden, but also THE best bike I´ve experienced. Keep up the good work!

Hello, I went from a BMW F800GT to the RT. The GT, nice bike but just didn't have the power for a two up weekend with full luggage. The GT full faring removal was a huge pain in the arse during maintenance. The RT is a dream machine.

I have watched several videos of 1200/1250 RT, and although no one has used the term, I would call them "polished".

For a fully equiped touring bike that thing is very light. With a seat change it's an all-day bike. Sunup to sundown.

Thanks for the video. Just missed a 2017 2017 BMW R1200RT today with 2500 miles. Sooo close.

Hi there. A couple of questions if I may as I have a f800gt but I really like the 1200rt Is it much quicker feeling, acceleration wise and is it fairly easy to move around when walking it. Many thanks in advance Rob

I really enjoyed the video when I saw it last week, especially as I was considering moving from my GS to the RT. Yesterday I had a test ride myself on the RT and found it to be exactly as you described. Next week it's goodbye GS and hello RT. I also really enjoyed the music at the beginning of your video and during the walk round. Perhaps you could let me know what it is ? Thanks again for a great video.

Hi I would be interested to know if you prefer the rt over your 800 and would you change if you could as I have been looking at both and can't decide which would suit me best. Many thanks.

Nice commentary. However, your camera view is angled to low. We want to see the road as opposed to mostly looking at your bike dash.

I have to agree with Moto Nirvana on the camera being a bit low. I can see pictures of the bike and dashboard online, but what makes the video interesting is the scenery during the ride, as if I was riding the bike myself :)

The Foreigner Awesome! That wouldn't have stopped me from watching, it was just the opinion of one man on the internet, haha! Keep up the good work.

I get my `14 RT later next month. Here I am looking forward to a lighter bike than my 290kgs 1150GS =D

I have an RT so I am biased. It's just a perfect bike. The wind protection, shorter wheelbase and the smaller 17 inch front tire makes it a better road bike than the GS.

Your camera angle is (IMO) too steep...showing the dash...needs to be tilted up to show the road ahead....otherwise..splendid job ...thank you .
