Awesome video! Great look into biking in Rural Kent, particularly so on such a big touring bike!

Thanks for uploading this. It's nice to see a recent review of an older bike rather than the latest models with a bit of comparison to what's gone before and after. I ride the later model 1200RT at work, I didn't think I'd like it and it took a little while to get used to but now I love it. Seriously considering a 1200RT for my personal bike as well, but budget will probably dictate this model year rather than slightly newer one. So it's good to hear they're still very much a capable jack of all trades.

Revisited this video after riding the exact same bike with you a week ago. Have to agree about the handling and agility, very surprising and because of the weight it felt very planted and sure-footed. Lovely to sit in that bubble of calm at higher speeds.

Nice video. The roads are so much narrower than those in USA. Kinda spooky when traffic comes the other way on what I thought was a one way single lane road.

Good solid bike. Once I hopefully pass my DAS & have some skill & miles in I intend to try some RT's, (so many bikes I eventually want to try). Not sure if I could sleep well owning if absent of warranty. I may be very new to (proper), bike riding), but have spent decades looking at bikes & viewing related content. Solid & responsible road riding, (as I already expected). The briskly approaching vehicle at 21:00 made me flutter, (just a bit)....Glad you had backed off a bit just before, (common, sixth & riding...."senses" all in play there). Thanks for sharing

thank you! RTs are great bikes. The reliability seems various, a lot of luck involved I think! LOL, yes some people do drive a bit too quick on single track roads dont they!? Its the "im the only one on the road" syndrome i think!

The only slow riding I've ever enjoyed on KZread. You've got a great style buddy, constant progress at 30kmh, it's impressive!!! I have seen the 2005+ RT with cruise control and LOW mileage for as low as $5000 USD around here. You cannot buy a Gen 2 Vstrom for that cheap. Has the world gone insane?

This is a twin cam engine. The production has been only for 2 years (2010/2012) and the value is of 10000 usd at minimum. If has low miles , pheraps 15000 usd too. Is the better boxer of all the times. Try to do a google search usino DOHC ENGINE r 1200 rt 2010/2012

I liked the rt,first one I test rode (2nd hand low miles),broke down ,faulty fuel gauge,2nd I put a deposit down ,test rode,no screen adjustment, may have been switch gear or motor ,500 quid each to sort, then the abs light came on !so how much that was going to cost me? Bought a gtr1400 in the end .

Been thinking about buying a twin cam RT….possibly the most reliable boxer ever made but seen a fair number with frame and casing corrosion. I guess just finding a mint example is paramount.

I own a 05 RT,,and have owned for about the same 5/6 years... I,m not a quick rider so the earlier engine suites me... I tend to ride using the torque from low down...but I had a layshaft in the g/box shear in two,my engineer blames me for lugging it..Now it has a gs box in ,,its just the same... Regarding weather protection ,,yeah the fairing provides good shelter in winter, but you ride down the south of France in summer and you will cook(ask me how I know)...All in all a nice bike but I maybe moving on cos of the weight,,What tires you running? regards

Hi, thanks for your comments. I found my GS geared differently so would be interesting to ride an RT with a GS box! We all have different styles of riding, surprised it broke the shaft. Oh yes, Ive done training in town in the summers, not much air moves does it!! I always run Bridgestone BT 023 GT, but might try something different next time. All the best

How do you compare them with the older R100RT and the R80RT it would be completely different to the older K series models

I haven’t ridden the older bikes for about 30 years so memory a little dim! But certainly they are more modern. Also the 2014 on rt s are a step ahead again

  • @MotorcyclePWR

From my experience Fjr is a great bike with a powerful engine, but rt has better standard screen, is lighter, handles better and better mpg. But that’s just my view/ experience!

Im sorry if this is a stupid question but how come this is not an rtp? It looks exactly the same to me. Atleast the cases and the crashbars. Apparently there is a difference in gearbox and cardan between rt and rtp. So i was wondering if this ment a big difference in rpm’s made. But your bike isnt the right example to check the difference then maybe. Anyway great vids i love watching them:)

  • @MotorcyclePWR

Hi, thanks for your comments, no not a stupid question. To the eye it looks like an rtp. It is an SE which i fitted the rear boxes and crash bars to. I recently sold the bike and converted back to factory dual seat. You are right that rtp models have slightly different transmission ratios. I have ridden rtp s a while ago but couldn't give you a sensible description of differences ! Glad you like the videos, all the best

@@MotorcyclePWR what made you choose to convert one instead of buying an rtp if i may ask? I can imagine it takes quit some time and effort to get it al converted. The crashbars and such aren’t for free either. You did a good job thats for sure it looks exactly alike👌🏻

Thank you, yes it did require some work but I enjoy doing it. I had purchased p models in the past but wanted the se extras this time. But i rarely carry pillion and the small radio box is ideal for my work radio and extra kit as im not a fan of big top boxes. Then someone kindly donated the slim panniers so i put them on as i dont need big touring ones.

@Jasper Wetting hi, these crash bars are BMW "Authority" model crash bars

  • @bikerted

What's the difference between the rtp and se??

  • @MotorcyclePWR

    @MotorcyclePWR

    8 ай бұрын

@bikerted thanks for your question. So an RT-P is the Authority version, built I believe at the Berlin factory and has a number of differences to the standard bike. So specifically on the RT up to 2013 (non LC) the RTP lacks heated seat, dual seat in most cases, cruise control, some on board computer functions. It does not have ESA but manual suspension, non adjustable at the front but the rear shock is adjustable for firmness and rebound. It is fitted with front crash bars, usually has the fixed slim panniers with the crash bars rather than the removable touring panniers, a rear radio box, has a different ratio final drive, has a screw on the throttle grip which can be used to keep the throttle fixed or to drag more, and a second battery fitted in the front "glove box" with an extra wiring loom for the emergency lights and sirens. Different mirror pods with a recess in them to allow the mounts for the front emergency lamps. There is a different bracket on the handlebars to bolt the emergency lighting switch clusters to. They usually have a fan for the front oil cooler which standard RT's dont have. Some authority specs vary according to the order made by the purchasing department. So typically SE spec gives you, heated seats, ESA, cruise control. I hope this helps, best regards
