Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video I swap the motor on the ABS unit on my R1200gs for a Ford Focus one. Always make sure to use suitable parts for repairs on vehicles.

    Legend! Love a good hack repair. My dad brought me up this way as he had his own car garage, to much of a throw away society these days and I was always taught to repair it instead. Great info mate thanks for taking the time to make it.

    The main reason for the BMW motor not working is that the motor brushes are in a very close tolerance holders. When enough brush dust builds up around the brushes they do not slide within the holder and contact the armature. So on a GS911 the fault with say you have an open circuit. The Ford motor has less tight tolerance on the brush holder so dust doesn't build up and bind the brushes. However the eccentric on the end of the Ford armature that drives the pump also has a greater offset than the BMW and will put greater pressure on the break system , the armature from the BMW should be changed to the Ford motor to avoid over pressure situation. So you're only using the Ford motor housing. I did this conversion on my 07 K1200gt about 10 years ago and have never had any problems since.

    @@GuysGarage120 I think you will find that I'm right. The electronics part of the bmw pump is different, however the actual electrical motor is the same. You can physically remove the motor from the bmw pump and replace it with cheap Ford focus motor. I've seen it been done.

    I wonder if the BMW bikes turn on the motor when you apply the brakes, rather than only when ABS is needed. My 2007 R1200ST brake error indicator lights sometimes when I apply brakes, but only then, suggesting the motor current failure is detected during normal braking. IanB

    How did you purge/bleed the ABS unit after you did this fix? I have the same unit on my bike which is causing a different issue and I think I need to bleed it. All the other videos on KZread seem to show a completely different ABS unit with bleed nipples and reservoirs, whereas this unit has none of those! Thanks in advance.

  • @randomcol1378

    @randomcol1378

    All I done to bleed it, was open one bleed nipple at a time and gently pump the lever, working though both fronts and rear caliper, and then just the rear with the pedal keeping ignition switched on and the reservoir topped up.

    @@JensAddictions I just watched a video where the guy bled the brakes like normal then hooked the bike up to a computer through a GS911 diagnostic tool. He then was able to purge the fluid through the ABS pump and then out the front brakes. The only catch is those diagnostic tools are like $300+. I don’t know if there’s a way to bleed the pump it without all that. I’m sick of my BMW. It’s a great bike to ride but everything just breaks on it. I’ve never had a bike that does this. The fuel gauge has stopped working multiple times, now the abs pump, it burns oil too. I’m going to get rid of the bike before the ESA rear shock goes bad. I’ve been told that happens before 30k miles.

  • @JensAddictions

    @JensAddictions

    Жыл бұрын

    @@JonBecker81 I've since been told by a BMW master technician that this particular ABS unit doesn't need purging with specialist tools - just bleed as you would any other normal braking system. Some of the more complex servo assisted ABS units DO need special diagnostics tools to bleed/purge the system though. Anyone reading this, please do your own research and don't assume that what I've written is correct - I'm only relaying what I've been told, the opinions and advice of others may differ. Apart from the fuel gauge and the ABS I can't say my bike has been much of an issue, it's not a low miler, either. The fuel gauge I can live with. ESA shocks can be rebuilt, I guess you're in the US but Google T-Tech suspension - he does international repair/service to BMW (and other) shocks and his work is meant to be first class. I can't comment on the oil burning issue, although if they're anything like BMW cars then oil leaks and burning oil is surely a factory feature! 😆

    The ABS test spins the motor every time you turn on the bike as far as I know. The ABS error light blinks (motor current good, waiting for movement to check the wheel sensors) and goes out when it sees all wheel sensors. IanB
