    How long a fretting scale does the neck you installed have? I personally believe that twelve-string guitar necks should use short scales for fretting--certainly shorter scales than those of six-string guitar necks--to reduce the string tension. Otherwise you're gonna risk giving the neck back bow, and jumpin' curveball, is THAT gonna be disastrous.

    Did it ever play in tune? I would imagine the method of placing the neck in the position by measuring the distance between the tailpiece studs and end of the neck wouldn't be anywhere near accurate for acceptable intonation unless you were lucky. Interesting project though!

    Great video and thanks for posting. Do you mind if I ask if the manual has a specific lock nut height at the top of the fork before you install the fork cap? I've heard 10.5mm, 11mm, etc depending on the Triumph fork. Also, please confirm the range of fork oil heights if you could? Maximum, minimum, and standard oil heights? Thanks in advance for posting and for hopefully taking the time to let me know these values!

  • @randomcol1378
    @randomcol13785 ай бұрын

    Hi thanks for the comment, the manual says the lock nut height is 10.5 mm on 2005 to 2010 speed triple below top of damper rod on 2011 on and Tigers set the locknut at the bottom of the threads and turn the rebound damping adjuster in the top bolt so there is 1.5 mm exposed at the top. The oil levels are as follows Speed triple up to vin 419555 120mm Speed triple from vin 419556 to 461331 114mm Speed triple from vin 461332 85mm Speed triple R 130mm. All measured from top of the tube with the spring removed and the leg fully compressed hope this helps.

    Indeed, you're probably right, but the sparks tend to blow out away from your hands, most of the time. Also I've welded car's laying underneath them and had sparks go in my ears which is a lot worse than on your hands. Thanks for the comment .

    The main reason for the BMW motor not working is that the motor brushes are in a very close tolerance holders. When enough brush dust builds up around the brushes they do not slide within the holder and contact the armature. So on a GS911 the fault with say you have an open circuit. The Ford motor has less tight tolerance on the brush holder so dust doesn't build up and bind the brushes. However the eccentric on the end of the Ford armature that drives the pump also has a greater offset than the BMW and will put greater pressure on the break system , the armature from the BMW should be changed to the Ford motor to avoid over pressure situation. So you're only using the Ford motor housing. I did this conversion on my 07 K1200gt about 10 years ago and have never had any problems since.

    I wonder if the BMW bikes turn on the motor when you apply the brakes, rather than only when ABS is needed. My 2007 R1200ST brake error indicator lights sometimes when I apply brakes, but only then, suggesting the motor current failure is detected during normal braking. IanB

    Why are the pumps from BMW so bad? My bike has 27k miles and my pump is gone. If these really are identical do the ford pumps fail too?

  • @randomcol1378

    I think it's because the pump is bolted to the top of the crank case on the bike,with all the heat and vibration that involves where as on the car it's bolted to the body.
