BMW N57 Intake Manifold Removed for Carbon Cleaning and Walnut Blast

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

kzread.info...
This BMW E70 30D came in with a rough running idle. Our first step was to read fault codes, which indicated multiple glow plug codes, and next is to check for Carbon build up inside the inlet manifold. I removed the boost pipe off of the throttle valve and found heavy build up. The Inlet manifold was then removed from the vehicle and cleaned in a sonic bath, and the ports in the cylinder head cleaned via walnut blasting. This carbon build up can restrict air flow, interfering with the tumbling and swirl of the air, and cause cylinder imbalances due to varied air flow to each cylinder. This combined with glow plug activation codes on all 6 cylinders produces a rough, stumbling idle - especially in a cokd start scenario. The glow plug module was also replaced whilst the manifold was removed, after testing of all 6 glow plugs showed no problems. After repairs were carried out, the vehicle performs as it should and idles smoothly. The DPF back pressures were checked after repairs to ensure correct operation and no need for the customer to return in the near future.

Talk about perfect timing. I'm getting ready to do just what you have done. You seemed to be a lot like myself. If you're taking something off it's worth getting it back to 100% instead of just settling for doing what you went in to do. I'd love to when you use your finger to move the flap so we can see what it should look like on that part you put your screwdriver on. I've never seen anybody use their finger to demonstrate if you have done it right or not. I'm glad you mentioned not to use any sort of cleaner inside a throttle body. I buy that and brake cleaner by the box full. I enjoyed your video so you got a big old thumbs up. Since you had some very good advice I made sure and hit the subscribe button also.

Looking to do that same job on my 2013 X5 N57 40D engine when the inlet manifold gaskets arrive. Retired 75 Y.O. mechanic but worth the challenge. Just one issue is that walnut cleaning is not available anywhere near me. Can only scrape out of the ports what I can. What are your thoughts on spraying the ports with carby cleaner and sucking out what I can with the valves closed?

I've got a mini cooper Sd with an n47 2.0 engine, it all appears to be running fine with no active or pending error codes. Yet when I look at the MAF readings at idle they fluctuate between 0g/s and about 16g/s. This happens through out the rev range whilst driving, the only time it stays stable is when a regen is happening. Have you seen this before and do you think this could be caused by cylinder imbalance from carbon build up?

I'm just in the process of doing the carbon clean. I've unbolted the intake manifold but for the life of my can't get it to come off. Appears to be be stuck on the EGV valve/cooler that's bolted to the manifold which appears to be holding on tight. I don't really want to break anything - is there something I'm missing that's not undone? Any advice would be good. PS - All the pipes to it are disconnected, it's just where it connects into the block.

They are blasted with the valves closed. All other ports with open valves are taped closed. The walnut blaster shoots walnuts into the port at high speed, but it is shooting it through a vacuum cleaner tip so as soon as it hits the ports it then get sucked out by the vacuum. It's a hard thing to show on camera in a video.
