People delete the emissions to prevent reliability issues, not because they "can't afford to run a diesel".

I just have done a second bmw recall for the egr cooler. However I have never ever had a single issue with the car for 3 years of ownership. f30 330d 2016 here now around 90k on the clock. Serviced every 10k miles and just had new zf8 oil sump and filter plus new gearbox oil. When serviced properly any car does the job.

Yes you will, sadly. I had my EGR replaced in July 2020 under recall. Took car (640D2016) for service at main stealer July 2021. They rang up, had to replace EGR *valve*. I kicked off & asked why, this was done under recall a year earlier? "Nope, we only did the EGR housing, not the valve. Now the valve is all clogged up and you need a new one." £400 later...I must say, it made a HUGE difference. Engine much smoother and more powerful.

A lot of diesel's have chain problems. I had a Mazda 3 with a 2.2 engine and a lot of them also had chains snaps. I have a 2016 435d and will service and look after it best I can and hopefully it will hold up. End of the day all cars have problems and a bit of luck is also needed at times.

My 430xd from 2017 is taking much longer to reach operating temperature. A year ago it would take 4-5km city drive in comfort mode up to 10min engine run. Now i need to drive 10-14km for the gauge to come to the middle around 20+min in comfort mode. Service guys want to charge me to test engine cooling system as there are no errors. I suspect one of the thermostats might be lazy and is never fully closed… Appreciate your comments

I service every 5k miles and have always ran vpower diesel, I just drive normally and on the odd occasion (once a week) might do 75% throttle pull. Is there much more I can do to prevent the chain from snapping? I was considering egr and Dpf delete - would you advice against that? I do motorway miles but a year ago, my vw golf tdi, the egr failed - even from motorway miles

I think BMW engines are reliable. It's the other "stuff " that fail. It is probably by design. LOL designed with a short MTBF (Mean Time Before Failure). Some people say it fails because BMW is a performance car and puts a lot of stress on components. Well, what kind of stress is in the windshield washer canister to cause it to leak and the pump to fail after 60k miles. Actually, BMW outsourced many of the components. They don't make the transmission, radiatot, amplifier, or climate control unit, etc. Check out "25 things that will break on your BMW" videos. I still love my e90 335i. Haha

I recently bought an X5 E70 (N57) with 90k miles. Its been running smooth as butter lately. I took it to be inspected by a very trustworthy mechanic of mine before purchase. He said its one of the cleanest Bmw's he's ever seen. The guy that owned it before me had the DPF filter removed and did a small computer tune to it. I'm averaging about 21.1mpg in the city. Problem is i'm constantly in the city. I've got a heavy foot and I like to drive fast, but i'm afraid with my daily commutes, it's eventually going to take a toll on it since I don't get on a straightaway much. My question is: Since the DPF filter has been removed, a computer tune has been done and I use Seafoam in my tank about once every 3 months, do you think I'll have problems down the road?

Glad I watched this as I was looking at an e90 330d with the n57, sod that I'm sticking with the old ironside m57 and I will be stripping all that eco-shit off it so it remains as reliable as my trusty but rusty old e46 was. DPF, Cat, EGR and flaps are all going, manifold deep cleaned finished with a high quality map then it will run as a big six diesel should. Greta can kiss sooty my twins! In all seriousness my e46 30d 204 had all it's greens removed (granted it was a non dpf euro 4) however it ran beautifully with smoke levels FAR lower than before removing them, that said I over-serviced that car religiously with the best parts and oil every 5k and it rewarded me with many years flawless and more importantly near smokeless service. Apart from Mercs OM606 the M57 without all that Euro-mission crap added to it has to be one of the greatest diesel engines ever made.

Very informative video. I have a 2016 535d with 39000 miles . I run only on Vpower fuel and change oil castrol edge 5 30 every 5k rather change the oil myself and hopefully steer clear of timing change problems . I have to new Turbos fitted as the previous owner didn't let the engine tick over after a motor way run that was costly £3500

BMW has confirmed it is looking into a ‘technical issue’ with its high performance police patrol cars and the way traffic officers drive them during pursuits. The car manufacturer responded after The Northern Echo exclusively revealed officers in Durham Constabulary have been instructed not to drive the German-made cars over the speed limit. BMWs are used in road policing It is understood the force’s fleet of around 30 vehicles is predominantly involved in road policing around the county. Read more: Durham police told NOT to chase criminals due to 'problems' with their BMWs But there have been reports across the country of BMWs fitted with an N57 engine bursting into flames if they go over 90mph. A whistle-blower with Durham Constabulary said officers were frustrated they had been told not take part in high-speed chases due to safety concerns. The serving officer said a ‘no pursuit’ policy was in place. What has BMW said? A spokesman for BMW said: “We have been working with the police for some time on a technical matter linked to a small number of special high-performance vehicles. “This issue is associated with the particular way in which the police operate these high-performance vehicles. “This unique usage profile puts extra strain on some components and therefore BMW has specified a special servicing programme for these vehicles.” 'No need for action on any civilian vehicles' The spokesman said the problem was not an issue for BWM owners with private motor vehicles. He said: “There is no need for action on any civilian vehicles. "This has been a dynamic and developing situation and we continue to work closely with the police.” Background to BMW's statement - and the implications for policing The police whistle-blower shared documents from senior officers at Durham Police ordering traffic and firearms officers not to exceed the speed limit in affected BMW vehicles unless there is an immediate threat to life. Read more: UK police ordered NOT to chase criminals due to issues with their BMWs Durham Constabulary confirmed a review of its vehicles is underway. Meanwhile North Durham MP Kevan Jones described the situation as ‘astonishing.’ The directive applies to forces across the country and was implemented after PC Nick Dumphreys died when a BMW police vehicle caught fire during a 999 call in Cumbria in 2020. Read more: Echo comment: The public needs to know the police have all the tools they need The whistle-blower said: “The BMWs have an issue where the engines are deemed no longer fit for purpose. “It’s just frustrating for the cops on the ground.”

If you buy a ford, everything will break around 80k miles, leaving it good for the scrapper. Especially those 5 cylinder diesels that like to crack the cylinder liners...
