BMW N54 335i Engine Removal: E90 E92 Engine Swap

BMW N54 335i Engine Removal: E90 E92 Engine Swap
So its time to pull the N54 out of the e90 so we can start getting it ready to go in to the e92 335i. This is normally not too bad of a job, but due to being on dirt and the impact damage, it has proven to be a bit of a challenge.

I am about to do a version of this. Out doors on a slope of gravel. I decided to use 2 12k ramps for the back and boards for the front. Pulling a bad engine and good transmission out. Putting the trans on the new good engine and reinserting it. No lift. Just creativity.

Guys, its much easier to take it out with two hooks and a metal rope. Take of intake mani and use the towk hook mount at front the above starter hole for the second hook.

Great video, i hope, hope, hope to god i don't get as many issues as you guys when get my 335, part of me just thinks get an e9x M3 do a few carbon bits big wing downs pipes and resonator delete and away i go. Only maintenance thing would be accelerator actuator and rod bearings. Gonna be a close call between the two cars. If I get a super clean 335 thats gonna be £8k to £10k Tune and pre engine service another £5k (Tune £3k) (Engine out service £2k) M3 £12k to £13k Rod bearings £2k Carbon bits (wing splitter etc etc £1,500) Wrap £1,700 F80 style headlights £380 Catless Downpipes, resonator delete and remap £1,000 This will be a tricky one. 🤔🤔🤔 If i found a low mileage M3 manual for £12k or £13k i'm all over it!!! & sometimes i see pink fly elephants 🤣🤣🤣

It was right at the back under the scuttle, so it would have been protected from dust and rain pretty well. Hopefully not much go in there. I am fairly confident the 10 seconds i ran it in the first video is the first time it was started since the crash.

  • @ZeroTo60Tube

No, i undid the quick disconnect which is just in the engine bay, where the soft line joins the hardline which is screwed in to the pump. The fuel line is a hard plastic line under the car, then just before the engine bay it joins a softline which connected to the hardline on the pump........ I hope that makes sense.

I bet you facepalmed while editing this. This is horror. Great job guys. Those downpipes can still be used. A dent like that has no effect on performance. The flow is never maxed out. Something similar got tested on Motortrend's Engine Masters. But it was the manifold, but I bet it holds true also for downpipes

Ahhhhh we did all give it a good wobble on the wheels. It was pretty solid until we started to lift the engine, then it got exciting haha. We also made sure there was always something solid like the spare ramps under the car where we were under it. Just in case.. I have seen that motortrend episode. It was kind of surprising. Engine masters is one of my fav shows on there.
