I did this mod a week ago, the intake boot is a tad short so takes some fettling - slacken the airbox off tightening the boot then re-tightening the air box - it's a bit fidly. However, the result is amazing I permanently run my car without the cover on the airbox and with this intake boot the resonance through the cabin at 4k rpm was unexpected. An overall meatier sound throughout the rev range, well worth the install.

I just installed this. If anything I now have a bit more room and it gave me the chance to de leaf the engine bay. Thanks George.

BMW 6 cylinder engines are the best petrol engines in the world. It just runs so smoothly in German we have a word for this ''butterweich'' (smooth AS butter) I would buy a BMW with this engine if I had money to always Fill it up with 102 oktan Super Petrol.but I don't so I stick to my rattling 4 cylinder N47. Someone has actually dyno'd their car with this intake pipe on and gained 7bhp so well worth it in my opinion!

I just replaced my power steering reservoir and oil filter housing gasket. And serpentine belt and idler pulley. I did a test drive and didn't have the air plenum nor air filter box installed. Actually didnt have thr MAF sensor installed either. I found I have a lot more acceleration without all that in there. Now obviously my air isn't clean. But it made me really think about this. We must have a lot of restriction in airflow with this box. And/or thr Mass Airflow Sensor is downgrading our acceleration? How do I have the PEPP IN MY STEP but have clean air? It wad a HUGE difference. Thanks.

I fitted mine around a couple of months ago. I'm not sure about the extra performance maybe a bit slicker in acceleration, but I have noticed better fuel consumption, around 3 mpg according to the cars readout.

@@GeorgeAusters sure it is. Would probably pick one up for the next season. Got a slot in K&N filter (K&N E-2022, pretty cost effective compared to paper filter unless you wouldn't like oiled cotton filters) for my 325i last summer and that worked fine in getting a slightly higher induction sound. It matches my "in cabin" exhaust note in the car after going with a Schmiedmann (Danish BMW specialist, with shops in Sweden etc) stainless exhaust in 2018, made by SuperSprint in Italy (but branded Schmiedmann).

@@GeorgeAusters I think I saw that video first of your's (maybe), googling the part when recommeding someone on a random E90 group on Facebook a week or two ago. Like your stuff, keep it up :) Will recommend any content stuff to make. Only thing worth mentioning now might be the TRW brand "M3" ("oe" with ground off "M"-markings) front control arms for E90,E87 etc which could be bought at a decent price as an upgrade, got a 4x set last summer that worked fine on the ol' E90 (gained a little front negative camber ~-0,6 degrees and little sharper steering feel).

Going to do this mod soon thanks for sharing

Close call with that sound test - I think it was a just a bit better Before - personally I think that unless you drive a lot like 15-20K+ a year you will NOT notice a difference at all - so generally not worth it in my opinion - good video about the Air intake pipe removal and mass flow sensor location for newcomers. Some people have modified the intake Air box with additional holes to improve the sound. I actually like the stock sound it’s legendary and will not mod it. Cheers for the video 👍🏼

The og intake pipe had other things (air cabin hose in some models, i think) installing this deletes something?

How much hp it’s adding?

George did you find that the Mishimoto intake was short? There are LOTS of comments on reviews and forums that it was designed too short. Also heard folks think the soft tube collapses under spiritual driving due to high intake rate. Thoughts? Thanks.

Hi George, Great instruction for pipe installation. I just got myself one of those intake boots. What exactly happens to the attached piping towards the cabin though? The mishimoto obviously doesn’t have that pipe so will it just stay open?

That pipe towards the cabin is an acoustic membrane. It's air tight but the membrane vibrates and produces induction noise that gets sent to the driver through the firewall. In other words it's a useless thing only put there to compensate for the overly dampened intake noise.

I just bought a 128i and heard their was a charcoal filter. If that is the case, then it must be cleaning out the air exhaust/gas smell which means going into the cabin. Thoughts?

Mmm im pretty sure you'll have to do some programming after removing the mass air sensor being that it regulates mixture of fuel to air ratio.

@@snoopdutt1985 stock: the cabin Air was filtered through the air intake filter. Now: its just an open cavity to the engine bay. If you have a cracked or other wise leaky PCV emission plumbing you'll have oily smell and emission smell inside your car. Also any roadway dust is entering your cabin.

I swear I was looking at that pipe on the intake today like where the f does this thing go to 😂. Mine doesn’t go to the cabin it’s just loose at the end so essentially sucking hot air in! I’m going to buy a piece of silicone hose with a angle in it for now to replace it and order the moshimoto one

@@GeorgeAusters I’m deleting it today 😂 just took the intake off now and cleaned it all out cleaned the disa valve and the throttle body and all the ccv pipes. 7nfortunayely my ccv is inside the rocker cover so will have to do that at another date but cleaning the pipes out should help keep it clear. Also noticed the pipes were quite new and I have no rocker leaks so I’m gathering it’s been done at some point recently. I have to comment on the intake tracts In the head that is some seriously good machining for. Factory head! Very impressed

Your phone is a gps tool. I use Torque Pro, the same app for obd2 scanner. It has a feature to record 0-60 tims.

He removed the MAF sensor for just a minute so as he didn't run the risk of damaging it and also have additional room for wiggling the hose into the barb. I'm frankly confused how you missed this and why you even ask. It's shown in the video what he did, and he explained it to-boot
