BMW K1600GT | Long Term Owner Review | Why did I buy it? | What's Bad? | What's Good?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

My experience of owning a BMW K1600GT long term. What's it like to live with? What's gone wrong with it? And can I forgive its faults?

    Great review, this inline 6 is butter smooth, it’s unbelievable. I test drove the 2023 model today, K1600 GT. In 2 minutes I felt right at home, and I’ve never been on a BMW bike before, the sales person recommended I run out the 350 kilometres of gas the tank had left 😂. I wish but no way, since they had taken my visa before the test drive, just in case something was to happen. I have never, ever, in the past 18 years of riding motorcycles rode one without the proper moto GP outfit/gear. Frankly, I could not believe the sales person utter the words,” I wish you can test drive the bike but you have no helmet.” I was like what! But this is the best motorcycle and motorcycle gear store in the country 🇨🇦 . So after 15 minutes I was hooked, on the highway I felt like I was on a jetski, the bike is so planted, effortless and it was on rain mode. It had rained a few prior, just to get to the store, it was a 150 kilometre drive for me. So I could not turn down his welcoming offer. So easy to ride, I honestly felt the nimbleness of my Gxsr 750 and beyond the power of my 109R. Just superior in every way. Smooth like Michael jackson moonwalk, like the,” Luke, I’m you father 🤣. Wow just amazing. The one think I didn’t Ike was when a trelease the throttle, I felt some kind of engine braking. That I found weird. I assume it was because of the mode I was on. Ride safe everyone. I pray to God one day I can get the 2023 model GLT, for the wife and I.

    I've been a cruiser guy for nearly 20 years now, and I've been looking at getting a more comfortable long-haul type bike. Several years ago I had a friend of mine, a motorcycle state policeman, mention he would get a BMW if he had his pick. My in-laws have been long term Goldwing riders. I've watched several videos on the K1600, but this video has convinced me. Time to get away from the good ol' American V Twin and upgrade. Besides, my middle aged body is getting too old to take all the bumps nowadays. Thanks for the good content! By the way, the blurring of the speedo is a good editing trick, lol!

    Enjoyed your video on k1600. Got mine in 2015, 1200 miles on the clock when purchased. Big service around a grand this year, not the cheapest bike to have. Another down side is your license, unfortunately i got caught a week ago, waiting on that letter through the post😟 third time in 6 years. Had a pan for years if they had continued the bike i would of probably got one. Goldwing i want to try but a big old bike and expensive to buy. Never had issues with using oil. Thought i might change the windscreen when carrying pilons get a lot of buffeting. But hay what a bike, i love it. Ride safe dude. 👍😁

  • @trident999

    @trident999

    Ah yes, the bit about the clutch ended up on the cutting room floor. Prior to converting my entire back garden into a motorcycle shed, all the bikes had to squeeze into the 'garage' (if that's what you can call it with these new builds. They don't actually fit cars in them whilst retaining the ability to open the car doors). Unfortunately, whilst pulling out the Triumph, its front 'scaffolding' caught the tip of the clutch lever and snapped it off. I think the clutch lever is made of chocolate. Regarding the fog light, I'm way too disorganised to fix myself. So I've left it for the BMW servicing department to spot it and fix it. After six years, evidently, fog lights do not form part of the maintenance checklists and can't be a requirement for the MOTs. This is only a bit of fun, I like the people at the service department. Thanks for subscribing!

    I have always been drawn to these incredible machines but ultimately always put off by the bikes bulk for when (for example) you get up into the gnarly twisty narrow lanes of the Scottish Highlands. Nonetheless, if I had room for a 4th bike in my garage this would be a strong contender for that last space....Enjoyed watching this, and as such I have subscribed, not only because I enjoyed it, but also because just lately it seems everyone 'vlogging' seems to have a West Yorkshire accent and I frequently cannot understand half of what is being said by-gum ay-up, bar-tat, pass thee watta, reet-greet...

    Reverse, radiator, gearbox, pannier, burning oil…. He may not have had a final drive failure (yet), But come on. I’ll be the first to admit the BMW makes a beautiful machine. They also ride incredibly well. When they are running, which is, of course, the huge caveat. I got burned on a GSA that had the final drive shit itself at 26,000 miles when I was on my yearly vacation and I was 300 miles away from a BMW dealership. Took a day to find a way to get the bike to the dealership took another day to get the bike to the dealership then I had to sit for a week and a half for them to get the final drive replaced. It ruined my vacation. I will never forgive them for it.

    The biggest mistake I had made is buying the GA, new back in 18. I wanted to love this machine and nothing but issues, once I reached 15K on her. Damn...man. How many times should I run to the dealer in one season? If its not sensors and engine light, its reverse issue and recalls and shutting down while riding and on top of that, the bike was horrible wobbling hitting DIRTY AIR. No wonder why they limited the speed on her. I just had enough. The head mechanic at BMW had told me that they can be finicky, at times. Thank God I had coverage. Sold it and bought a new Goldwing Tour. This Wing is incredible and cheaper.

    What you pointed was an oil radiator, so water cooled bike was overheating due to oil radiator damage, sorry but it sounds weird to me. I have GTL and yes radiator can get blocked due to dirt from the road and even get damaged by stones but in most of the cases all you need it just pull radiator out, pretty simple and give a good cleaning and it works fine, done on my bike couple times, currently have 61 thousand miles on the clock.

  • @trident999

    I had a 2017 model. It ised oil so the dealer changed the engine and 4 thousand miles later the gearbox went on it . Clunky gears and electrical problems were enough for me so i bought a 2019 goldwing . 19000 miles later and everything still works . It doesnt use oil its not had any warranty work done and they go and handle better than you think . Apple carplay and android auto work as they should and so does the biluilt in sat nav . If BMW built bikes as reliable as hondas then id go back to them but i doubt it .
