BMW E60 Driveshaft Carrier Bearing Change

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

How to change / remove driveshaft carrier bearing on BMW E60 / E90 / E66 / E65 / E70 / E53 etc.
The car had some massive vibrations and hits from behind/rear suspension when accelerating . It felt like someone was hitting the differential with some metal pipe . After the first diagnosis we found out that the universal joint on the driveshaft was faulty too .

    When u need to replace the parts mentioned you will notice a slight shake under light acceleration from a stop and go condition right under ur seat and armrest if ur arm is resting on it. The guibo joint will cause ur car to kinda jerk forward when it's coming to a stop from 2nd to 1st gear or while accelerating going from 1st to 2nd . The shaking u may be experiencing is probably due to ur car needing an alignment, also check the front tire tread pattern, if it's worn uneven it may cause a shake. I had that shaking at highway speeds in my 09 tsx and it was caused by uneven tread wear by slightly over inflated tires. Replaced tires and had an alignment done and issue was gone

    The universal joint is non-replacable on this driveshaft, without machining, right? Everything else on the driveshaft is possible to replace. Did you replace the driveshaft?

    Thanks for a great video! I have the same car, only a wagon. I can tell it's a pre-LCI 535d by looking at the exhaust. :) Did you experience vibration in the whole car at any speeds before replacing the giubo and center support bearing, not only when accelerating? My car vibrates at steady speeds. I have replaced all wheels, everything in the front end and now I have to look at the driveshaft. Giubo and center support bearing is in the mail right now. The vibration is driving me crazy. It looks like you forgot to install the shim (BMW part number 26111227583) again, before installing the bearing - not that I think that's catastrophic. :p Hehe How did you replace the universal joint?

  • @crank3646

    Its 525d :) The vibration was more pronounced only on accelerations . On steady speed everything was seemed fine . We installed the shim ( the old one , not new one ) guess you missed it . Before few months we were working on E39 530d with vibrations on steady speed , after several checks on the rims and tires , the client decided to come to us . Everything seemed fine in the beginning , till we saw something strange with the injectors . The injector on 1st cylinder were from M47 , someone decided its going to work on the M57 . We replaced the injector and the car is running fine from then . So just keep in mind , this can be from something totally different that you expect :)

    Crank Thanks for your reply. The exhaust on 525d and 535d must look quite similar then. :) The car was fine about a year ago and no components in the engine has been changed other than engine oil every 10.000km. It really feels like the vibration is coming from the middle/rear of the car so I am going to do the same as you did in this movie too, just to be sure. After 176.000km it might be a good idea anyways. Is there any thing in the rear that could cause the vibrating? I have already replaced the "ball joint bushings" and integral links. Have you ever experienced the transmission torque converter to cause major vibration? So many questions, but this is driving me mad and no one seems to have an easy answer. :)

  • @crank3646

    @crank3646

    Never encounter vibrations caused by bad torque converter , but you never know :D Probably some bad bended CV axles , or inner CV joints . Ones again never encounter this on BMW , only on FWD cars . Probably if the engine mounts are toast , its possible they to be the cause . Its really hard sometimes to find , mysterious vibrations , or slacks in the suspension . If you find the cause , write up :)

    Crank Please don't say "if" you find it, say "when". Hehe. I will try this with the help of your video first, then maybe engine mounts if the vibration is still present. Thank you again for this great video. :)

    @@crank3646 thank you for your video. I also have a vibration at 800rpm constant that cuseses vibration and droning especially the back of the car. It has been driving me crazy. I have x3 2011 and already replaced motor mounts and tensioner pulley, new tires, alignment. That didn't fix the issue. But I realized that the rear diff it's wet(very small leak if any). Could that be the cause of vibration due to bad seals on rear diff or maybe front as well? Also the car kind of jerks forward on first to second gear or when breaking to a stop? Is that guibo going bad? Ty
