Patrick, you're right, today that isn't very impressive. My 2001 330xi is listed at 0-60 in 6.5 seconds. It's "responsive" but not fast by modern standard. The part I find amusing is that I clearly remember the Pontiac GTO coming out in 1964 with a 389 ci with 3 deuces and a 4 speed. It was for a short time, the fastest stock street car on the market. It did 0-60 in 6.5 seconds!! Oh, how the times change! 🤣👍

Keep it, man. It's a beautiful car, you got an incredible deal on it, and it's going to continue to be a fun daily for you. My '05 is not a daily (and it's not a manual, but I'm okay with that). Every time I drive it though, I smile. The E46 is one of BMW's best, and your example is worth hanging on to.

I believe you mentioned the steering briefly but the the ZHP has a quicker steering rack than a regular e46 . It makes a huge difference in the feel and handling. BTW I think Matt has some products to address your alcantera wheel unless you think it's too far gone. LOVE THE ZHP!

At the price you got it I’m not surprised you had to replace a few things usually the little bit higher mileage examples (120k +) have already addressed those issues and if done properly this is a very reliable car going to look at a 04 330i zhp sedan in a few days if someone doesn’t catch her before I do, I can’t wait !!! Edit* make sure you ask tons of questions about maintenance and feel the seller out if he didn’t seem to take care of it or do Any preventative maintenance expect to spend a good chunk of change

You were mentioning the window regulators. I'm driving (for the past 12 years) a 330xi 4-door. I believe the root of the regulator problem is common throughout the E38 740, E39 530/540, and E46 series. The regulator uses a plastic wheel that rolls up the steel cable to raise & lower the window. The problem is, with all these different models, that the steel cable has a metal "knob" on the end that secures the cable to the take-up wheel. Eventually it wears out the plastic and pulls the "knob" out of it's seat. The only solution I've found is to not run the window all the way down beneath the rim of the window frame. I typically stop the window with 2-3 inches exposed. I haven't had to replace a regulator in the last 10 years with this 330xi. This design is common with all of the models I listed. I've owned them all since 2000.

I'm in late 60s. I bought a😮 new '88 Henna Red M3 back in the day. Drove it in a few hi-perf driving schools and did a few Solo2 autocross with it. Not ever the fastest car, but what a handler on A008 tires...soooo predictable. Most of miles registered on it were road miles just because it was enjoyable to drive it to nowhere in particular, especially when the roads got twisty. Great condition M3s from that era ('88-'92) are commanding at least twice as much as msrp back then. I bought mine for $29k. Fast forward to 2023. After driving meh cars, trucks, and vans throughout the years after my M3, my buddy sold to me his parent's '03 E46 325i sedan. While he had it after his parents could no longer drive, he replaced the majors that needed replacement and shod it with Nitto 555s on 18" wheels. This 20yo sedan drives and handles head and shoulders above other and more newer sedans that I've driven over the years. It piqued my interest, especially the E46 chassis and its analog-type driving experience. It reminds me of why BMWs were/(are?) often called The Ultimate Driving Machines. I could buy a new 2023 BMW, but why at my age, right? Most would depreciate faster than itd take a ZHP to appreciate. The E46 chsssis in its several model iterations ticks all the boxes for me and the way I want a performance car to feel in my hands and under my butt. Having learned my lesson about selling my beloved '88 M3, I've gone all in regarding the E46s. I now own besides my 325i, an all original, unmolested, no collisions, and straight '02 325ix AWD w/auto trans. It will need some major parts replacements for peace of mind, but otherwise, it drives and handles as it should. The rehab will be worth it to me, and I'm happy with this relatively rare acquisition...itll be my DD along with the 325i. In the pipeline waiting for me to finalize the deal is an '02 M3 6spd manual with the big-three already done as well as the vanos. Also in line is a coveted oiginal owner '03 330Ci ZHP, 6spd manual, no sunroof, HK audio, and Alcantera interior. The o.g. owner new EXACTLY how to order his ZHP, and, I concur with his decision. All four will be keepers until I leave this Earth. Im guessing that my younger heirs when I'm long gone will do what they will with them. I just hope that they continue to drive, enjoy, and rehab these UDMs as much as I am and will. Its a good thing that I have a brother and a couple of nephews who are gearheads👍 It has and continues to be a good ride for me. Do the right thing and make good choices, and, as hickok45 often says, "Life is good..." Safe travels, everyone!!!🤙

I bought my fully-loaded 2003 1/2 Imola Red 6-sp manual 330i ZHP sedan in 2007 with 36K miles for $23,500- a decent deal at the time. 13 years later, I’m only at 71K+ miles- double the original mileage, but insanely low for a well kept 17 year old car. There’s still no other car that’s remotely tempting. Even the E46 M3 is of no interest to me (I generally prefer 4-door sedans, especially in the E46 platform.) The E90/92 styling was discordant and weird, I have no love for it. The F30 reigned the design awkwardness in a bit, but it got fatter and softer in the process. I’m keeping Shakti the ZHP.

A modern analogy to the ZHP is the Porsche Carrera GTS. No not just too much alcantara. The ZHP is not as fast and hardcore as an M3. Same as the GTS v GT3. The ZHP (and GTS) is pretty nice as a daily street driver; the ride doesn’t beat you up and you don’t need to rev the crap out of it either like you do on an M3 and GT3. ZHP is also significantly less money to buy and run than an M3, as is the GTS over the GT3.

Engine has never been opened up to my knowledge. M54 will go forever as long as they don’t over heat. So I’d suggest a full coolant system replacement including pipes under intake manifold to be safe. That being said it’s a old bmw tho gs are gonna wear out constantly. Keep up with it and you won’t have an issue like I said I daily mine. About 3-400 miles a week give it take. Fcp euro will be your friend. As long as the car has been well maintained up to that point it will have allot of life left.

Having to pay nearly 4K for a 112,000 miles ZHP is actually a very good bargain with the buyer having the upper edge on the deal by 35% You can spend an extra 6k in worthy repairs and cosmetic mods, there you’ll have a 10k ZHP BMW plus the fact that only uses it to go to the office but drives another car then your not adding a significant amount of miles and just re storing the ZHP Beemer all around is a Win Win. A ZHP Is what I have is actually better than a M3 in terms of physicality of the car although an M3 is M car and is Top performance but ZHP has M tech all around inside and out but for me what really does it is that it’s a sedan because M3’s only came in coupe’s and lastly you can add little mods by placing the M emblem on the back of the trunk as well a M sticker on the steering wheels etc. to match the M door sills and M sport steering wheel (I think, but I do know that ZHP comes with alcantera wrapped around steering wheel) but ZHP automatically comes with it after all a ZHP is a M sport car with M specs so why not add a little upgrade in sport luxury style to it. BMW ZHP sedan is my Favorite car, mines is all black on black .Gotta love the red 🚘tho

Totally agree. Thankfully mine doesn't need a ton of work, but obviously an older car always needs something. It needs a clutch soon and I would like to get the door handles resprayed. Also some interior updates. Nothing too crazy.

Modern classic. if you maintain it youll be surprised the value in a few more years. prob be worth $100k or more. they only made 3,500 Zhps. compare that to the 35k M3's tthey made. lolol way more rare than the M3

No chance. Just because something is rare doesn't mean it will be valuable. ZHP will be sought after, but not more than an M3. The 1994 325is M-Tech is a perfect example.
