Absolutely bang on about the SMG! I had the same experience, stopped in the services on the way home after buying the car and thought “oh fuck what have I done”... however I now have all the software updates and it’s night and day, love the character and involvement of it, having driven a few manual E46 M3s I would not change! Really great info there m8 My old m3 was very similar spec to yours air box seats, brakes, exhaust suspension. It was a manual and agree it's a crap notchy affair, even with the m5 knob fitted. I sold it and bought a caged csl with intrax ik2 suspension titan coated Full supersprint system headers cats lightweight race box. Recaro profi spg seats with 6 point harnesses Aps front rear with spacers and wheel stud conversion. I friggin love it as the cage helps stiffen the rear up and it feels and sounds like a race car. My next mod is 4.1 diff and just maintain it as I'm never selling it. Agree with the rs39 pads awsome but expensive and make loads of dust.

Hi Alan, sadly I have heard this.. shortly after mine was completed (few years ago now) the talk about bracing inside the of the boot become very popular. My thoughts are if the standard one can pull off 60-80,000 miles my sub 5,000 miles should do me for years 😂

Quality video, and so similar to my spending/journey with an M of near identical age and mileage, be it a vert, and manual. Incidentally, I agree regarding the Gertrag 'box standard, but a shame you haven't yet tried a refreshed manual like mine with new bushes and shorter linkage with the weighted knob, it really does transform it, and the ratios are so easy now to select with a nice action. Like you I replaced the Sachs shocks for new, and went with the Eibachs, but hahah also like you wished I'd gone Ohlins(R&T) or something similar, as the standard is ok, but not as good as we'd like right. I went for the BMW performance caliper option(with CSL discs) which I have been more than satisfied with, Goodridge lines, and replaced the hard lines and the rear discs. Yea, really nicely done again.

Great stuff and quite comprehensive, and your delivery is spot on and fluid, unlike guys like DeMuro who constantly edits himself after every sentence. I'm on my second E46M3, both 6mt and completely stock, and has been my daily approaching ten years, and know the model well. That being said I have a couple of quibbles about your ten problems areas. First, I have never felt the sort of brake fade you describe after spirited back road driving, though I realize a brake swap is necessary to track the car. The discrepancy there may be partially attributable to divergent driving styles. Second, rust is typically not a primary issue with these cars, certainly not it the top 10, and your cutting away to a closeup of a particularly roached out old generic BMW is at once both misleading and disingenuous at the same time. Finally, and this may be a cultural thing, I haven't heard the expression "Jewish" as a synonym for "cheap" since high school, and I'm 60. Funny though I had a Jewish girlfriend back then, and she wasn't offended by it at the time. But it's 2020 now, not 1975, and you simply can't let stuff like that slip if you want to grow your channel. I know that much of this post is going to come off as criticism, but it I didn't enjoy the content of the video overall I wouldn't have bothered to type such a lengthy response in the first place.

Hi Greg, Thanks for spending the time to comment, with regards to the brakes i agree with you in part, driving styles will always vary between owners and I did state in the video this would be my opinion (sure others will agree/ disagree) The rust is an issue in the UK (assume your from the states?) many owners are now experiencing heavy corrosion in the e46 (now also appears to be hitting the e92 ☹️) are winters are not terrible in the UK but our local councils appear to prefer laying a carpet of salt during the winter months rather than ploughing away.. I’ve seen it on more than one occasion and the clip of my 320d wasn’t to scare people but more make those aware of a little rust on the face of it can be big bills if not correctly inspected/ repaired. The Jewish comment isn’t made as being cheap, more being tight/ looking for a good deal on things - certainly didn’t intend for it to offend but I should certainly be more mindful of my comments Hope you enjoy the videos 👍

The sound from the CSL intake is purely because it's really thin, I don't understand why no one, in all these years, has produced a fiberglass alternative? It's the same process, mold and lay, but is miles cheaper. Or even an old school style ally box intake. No shaping, just square sheets? Seems crazy to me lol
