That v12 in the 750 makes a beautiful sound, I had a 740i sport with the 4.4 v8. Nearly got a 750 but fuel costs ruined it. I've had a e65 730d for the last 14 years.

Best car i ever had. 740i M60B40, 6-speed manual gearbox. Big, comfy, beatiful (19 inch rims, shadowline, almost all in black lowered), livin legend.

725tds amazing sound

Some of them are modified, removed mufflers or even straight pipe, E38s are very quiet in stock. Would be great if this comparison included stock cars without modifications.

Damn I like how the 6 inline (petrol) lands so quickly in the high revs; beautiful sound.

most elegant looking BMW is the E38

740i is the only one that makes the most sense. Reliable V8 easy to work on with more than enough power to get you where you need with ease and style.

Think even with the Torque 143bhp is probably a bit underpowered in the 725 TDS.

Great video, yet the e38 740d is 740iL (m60b40) i indicates gasoline fuel, L is Large version of the chasis.Could be an engine swap?

I don't think sooo... Slowly, difficulty, crackly, bad reputation, too much expensive fot this car. BMW definitely is not a Best car.

@@PriKor The E38 only had the 5.4 liters. 5.0 liters was the previous generation V12. The Alpina B12 had 5.7 liters and 6.0 liters

Exact mais d'un autre côté le gusse est un peu paresseux et lambin sur le passage des vitesses je trouve....

e38 does not have such engine like 5.0i it was 5,4 v12

I drive the 728i with 121,000 miles and we did a 0 to 60 with specialist timing gear and it did it in 7.9 seconds which isn't that much slower than the bigger engines. Although I did have the 740 before which seemed really fast at the time.??

My pick would be 740d: effortless torque.

had few of these,tried most of these in terms of acceleration in 2023 they suck!in terms of looks they are very cool!

Christ let them warm up first. 2.8 is a great motor. The HP seemed a bit high.

I chose 740i with manual 😎

In Reality, if a 728i is in good shape und properly maintenanced, it will need around 8-8.5 seconds to 100km/h, which is reasonable and fast enough for a car of this class and age. The V8's are not that much faster and even the V12 is not particulary fast when compared to all the newer upper class cars. If we take into consideration the availability of spare parts and know-how in the future aswell as the simpler and smaller design of the engine, it needs to be concluded that the M52 is in fact the best choice for the E38. I won't argue why Diesel engines should not be fitted into a upper class vehicle with a high expectation for comfort.
