Thanks so much for uploading this video, changed it and cleared any faults now my car working like when I first bought it. No longer need to disconnect the cable connected to my battery, steering wheel lighter and heating does not turn on by itself randomly. Thank you Dean you legend! Was so confused for months until I found this video.

This is 100% spot on. I was changing my stereo and snipped a wire without disconnecting the battery and everything shut down except my wipers wouldn't stop even without the keys in. I changed this and everything worked fine again

did you hear a ticking noise in the passenger side by chance? my bmw (2006 325i) had a battery terminal fusible link unplugged while still connected and my car went haywire and all the interior buttons with lights started flashing. although my wipers didn’t start going? now the car is just dead in the water, tried jumping it but nothing happened. won’t even turn on interior lights when opening the doors. did yours still have interior lights and working gauge cluster?

No problem bro

Just a quick thought - that plastic box contains a lot of electronic parts. If... for example.... a condensator dries out it does not work properly. Due to that a relay may get stuck and sort of send or not send power. A dried out condensator may as well send less then expected power. And other parts as well. IMO it might be usefull to take the whole unit and find a local electronics repair shop that will go through all the parts, measure them by ohm, voltage and what not and replace just the parts that are dead or close to being dead. Usually those parts cost next to nothing instead of buying a complete new modulde (which you have to re-code again to work with your car).

Sir, you just don't know how much I appreciate you sharing your knowledge with all BMW owners. I watched one of your previous video where there was no voltage at the washer bottle pump on a E60. (I have an 07 525i) In that video you stated the issue was the KBM module. Q1. If I buy this module new it is $400 US and used about $70. Which is best? Q2. Will I be able to drive my car to get it programmed/ coded? I do not have the means of coding myself but have found a local European shop. Please give advice. Thanks

Hello BMW Doctor, great video and tips. Much appreciated. I am working on replacing the valve cover Gasket (My first time) on a 2012 550i which is dumping oil as soon as I can top off I get the low level within a few days. I am having some issues removing the wiring harness but still working on it. Is there a service manual that has detail removal in case I mess something up. I am documenting but it's tedious. Thanks in advance.

Mine had the exact symptoms you describe but it was not the body control module but the voltage regulator. If you get multiple systems failing at same time also try the voltage regulator. Lost power steering center display radio spedo and tach jumping and stability control. Mine is a e60 m5 pre lci

Hi Dean I love the channel. Dean I’ve been banging my head against the proverbial wall and after seeing your video may now be the BDM. All in one day I have lost my window wipers, full beam, radio signal and the central locking from the fob. I also have more error codes than I can remember but the most worrying are the DBC, DSC and DTC. Would I be correct in saying this is more than likely down to the BCM. I would really appreciate your advice Dean. Thanks

@@sohibgayed4349 I had heard that some people say it would have to be reprogramed but thank God i didn't. I literally just took the old one out and replaced it with one i bought off ebay for 35.00. Luckily after the install mine worked fine and i didn't have to do any more to it.

Does this do the same for 1997 e38? I heard you mention e39, but I’m having some of the same problems you mentioned. Power adjust steering column, drivers power seat. Thank you for making the videos!

My 2004 545i doesn't save the programming, and on BMW when they ran the scanner, when I turn the key off and on again, it erases everything without saving, losing all the programming, the KM also comes back every time the battery runs out. Hi Dean. Thanks for all your videos. I was programing my BMW E70 X35d and the voltage stabilizer failed ie voltage got below 12 .4 v ISTAP recommended terminating programming and I did. Well now nothing will turn on and the car is dead electronical.. no PW, no ignition on, start stop will not work, ignition will not come on. Any help to diagnose will be much appreciated

Great video and channel! I have intermittent problems with my BMW E60, central locking stops working and transmission fail-safe activates stopping me from starting the engine. If I power down the car and wait for a while or disconnect the battery, it works again but it is happening more often now. If I replace the module is that a probable fix? Hi, great channel. I've got a 57 plate 520d E60 with 150,000 miles. When I went to drive it today it felt really sluggish with no get up and go, I have no idea what it could be? There are no lights on the dash or no weird noises. It's usually motorway driven. Any advice appreciated.

2007 E60 M5 Central electronics module issue I started coding with the Carly adapter a few years back, & I think it finally fried my Central electronics module better known as the control body module. Everything worked fine for a while but then I started noticing things I coded, for example welcome lights turning on when you unlock the car started not working half the time. Then ultimately I started getting a bunch of error codes. Abs, Electronic dampening control, start off assistance, check battery terminals, powering steering went out, idrive screen started flashing on and off. The cluster would glitch and I would be going 60 mph and my speedometer was at 0 mph. The music would stop playing then come back on. The latest thing is my sunroof will only open a little bit at a time. My battery was well overdue to be replaced so I did that. I took it for a a drive and everything was fine for about 30 min. Then it happened again, but only one error msg went off. It didn't give me like 5 different error codes. The sunroof is still only opening a little hit at a time and the music cuts out as well. I ordered a used CEM I/E CMB for my car. I'm trying to find out if there's any programming that needs to be done prior or after i install it. For future coding I will be getting ncs expert to code. Any information from anyone would be greatly appreciated. Thank You

Thanks for this informative video - this was such a great help. I am hunting for this part now as I have no dash lights, heavy steering, no locks, seat etc. Transmission fault appeared at the same time as well so I'm hoping that has to do with this issue and will be ok once KBM is replaced. Battery was replaced less than 12 months ago but cant open the boot to check it!

@@DZayyy Actually, it turned into being a major issue. The drain holes for the panoramic roof in the c pillars were completely blocked and the boot filled with water when parked on a hill on a particularly stormy night. There are all sorts of electronics below the spare wheel and in the c pillars on the E61 and my insurance company wrote the car off. I have since found out this is a common fault on the E61 so if you own one make sure the drainage is clear in both the a pillars and c pillars otherwise it could be a VERY expensive fix.

Hi Dean thank you so much for this video. I have an e87 120d the left passenger airbag light and seat belt ligh comes on when someone sits on it. However after a couple of seconds the airbag light goes off, however the seatbelt light still stays on even with the seatbelt plugged in. I changed the seat mat and seat belt tensioner and still the problem persist. Do you think that this module could be the problem? Thank you

Hey...I have been a big fan of your videos and I ended up picked up a 2011 m sport 335d. I recently have had some issues pop up with the k-can line faults on modual jbe,cas,rad,pdc,cic,con,frm,ihka,smfa. They still seem to communicate but cause the modual to go yellow and come back right when I clear the fault memery. Do you have any ideas on were to troubleshoot into. Thanks

Hi, m8, I own a f01 and after letting it parked for about 2 or 3 days, i got in the car and it felt like i was watching a christmas tree, every light was on, dsc, abs, tyre pressure sensors were off, the steering was hard, the speedometer wasn't working, head's up also not working,the rear camera stays on even after i go into drive and go, regarding the speed i'm running with. I will try to remove and recharge the battery tomorrow, do you think it's the same module that is causing issues to me? Thx! Changed it. It was the black relay in the trunk. It got really hot, put another one. Everything is ok. What it was doing: No power to the front doors (windows, mirrors, locking) Wipers would start on it's own and wont stop. battery drainage.

Hey, I hope you can help me! I have a 2008 BMW 528i. My iDrive screen doesn't work it gets power and I've even tried a new LCD screen but still no luck. I looked for the MPM module in the trunk but mine doesn't have one. Is there another location it can be in? Or would it be this kgm module that needs to change?

hi Dean, great video by the way ! I have a 2005 E61 520D M Sport. I have been having problems with the OBC. First I lost the stereo and central display(I drive) and thought it was the module in the boot, after around a year without the above my turbo went so it was parked up for around 3 weeks until I could get it repaired. When I did eventually take it the short distance to the garage when I started the car up the stereo and display came back on for around a minute then went off again and never worked since, that was over a year ago. Because that model is very rare I have been fixing the usual bits like the tailgate loom ect and plan to keep it in the best condition possible. Do you have any ideas in what this could be or do you think the video is the best option for repair.

Does this module need to be flashed to the car, when replacing with new module? Also does this module affect the logic 7 multimedia CCC drive? I have a customer with a 2006 E60 535IX door chimes tone from speakers as they should, but radio/bluetooth/dvd/CD don't play anything! I tested the logic7 amplifier in the trunk, and checked the L.E.D status indicators to make sure of functionality....amp is fine all speakers tone at the amp harness! He had me order new GRS speakers for every stock location, but I won't put them into a dead system! Please Dean: any advice you can give would be awesome as U.S. dealers don't want to help customers fix, then want to sell them new car!

hi, thanks for your video. Does this affect all the electronics or can it affect just some? My locks wont work. Not with the FOB or by the main button inside the car 2004, BMW X3. Once in a while my heat gauge will go from mid way, right over to the right, spike, red light comes on, then it goes back to normal about midway. Rear tailgate will not open even by hand. I wonder if these are all related? Could it be this module? Fuses, seem good and I already tried to reprogram the FOB but even without the FOB, locks will not work. Ideas? thanks. what's the part number for this module? and is it the same for all BMWs?

I have a 2007 320i (e91) touring. It’s throwing the “central electronic failure”. I had it diagnosed by the dealership. Dealership said it was a short on my sunroof so they cut the power to it. It ran fine for a yr. Now it coming up with the code. Also the sunroof closed itself 3/4 of the way. Which I think is why the central electronic module failure is showing again. My car does start. TIA

Hi , great video. I have a BMW 2 series Grandtour 2015. It won't start, no lights on dash board and battery is fine, AA confirmed it when they saw the car but were not able to start it. Remote key fob not working and when I open door manually with key the alarm goes off. I hadn't used the car for 5 days and I didn't leave anything on to my knowledge. Please advise. Much obliged. Hi, great video,I’m having a problem with the screen on a bmw f10, it went blank and continues to flash the bmw sign but cannot be unlocked . Sometimes it all reappears but then goes blank again. I’ve tried replacing the screen, garages, different screens new radio the works !!!!! would that module be the cause do you think? Or have you heard of this with other f10s. Hey mate I have a 2010 E90 320i. I had no choice but drive throught water about 15-20 cm deep. Car was fine and drove home and next morning stalled 3 times and reducing power due to DSC and steering failure with reduced power and finally died completely at work about 1 km. Replaced all ABS sensors and brake pads sensors. Cleaned all connections with contact cleaner. But car cranks now but no start. Power at DME relay but have following fault

I glad that I did find your channel.. I’m going threw the same problem with my 2005 525i E60 M.P.M is fried due to water damage. I have a bunch of codes like electronic system malfunction, braking and dynamic response system malfunction, cruise control malfunction, emission- related malfunction and transmission fault My car battery is still dying .. I put a new alternator, battery and mass flow sensor .. And still having these problems. I just purchased the M.P.M -New and KMB- Used .. I pray to god that your right because I spent a lot of unnecessary money to bmw mechanic that still can’t figure out this . I will give you an update regarding this matter and if you have any other advice with these problems I have please share them thanks again my friend

Updated on regarding matter .. I didn’t need KBM .. All this time . it was the MOST interface Module .. This module was causing multiple malfunction codes to appear listed above I’m amazed how this module can cause all those problems but thanks to you I unplugged the KBM to check for # and I said to myself I don’t need this as well (Most interface Module) Because the plug that comes off this module was for iPod which are Obsolete. I Decided to unplug. Watching your other videos of the cluster malfunction I attempted to do as told I plug back the KBM I had to jump the vehicle because the battery was completely dead .. it’s started. At this point I waited to hear all the malfunction codes appear on the I-drive and nothing happened.. No codes. No problem Thanks to you I saved thousands of dollars Not even the damn dealership could of figure this problem out.

Hi BMW doctor, I own an E60 2004 530D and I have been having problems with battery drain. I have replaced the IBS module and battery and still enduring this problem. Now I have seen your video I would like to ask you a question pls... I have installed a volt reader with the battery to have the records how the battery is behaving, it seems that the battery is going down 0.1V per day roughly so I would have to drive it before 5/6days before it goes to low to crank it. Is this normal for the BMW e60 or I should replace this module and record if this keeps on going down by 0.1V per day? And is this module plug and play or do you need to code it or something ?

I’ve got tons of problems, -Active steering fault -Central electronics failture comes up sometimes -level cotrol failure -radio stations refuse to be saved -door lock remote doesn’t work Sometimes these problems disappearing everything works fine apart remote and radio. Do you think that might be a kbm module? Sometimes I hear knock on the back before active steering fault comes on dashboard

I just had a failure on all my door controls , my wipers got stuck on and i couldn't turn them off, my steering got heavy also like you had mentioned after i had a battery drain. I have a 2004 BMW 530I ... I hope this is it. That would be awesome.

Hello Dean. I’m hopeful that you can help me with this. My car is a 2014 BMW 320d . When I purchased it it had a stage 2 remap and an after market apple car play system fitted. Recently the car has developed a failure where the car will brake in wet weather. A diagnostic report for BMW has told me that the CID navigation is communicating with the brake system and under normal circumstances it allows the brake pads to squeeze lightly on the disc to keep them dry to prevent in emergency any slippage on the disc. My problem is that the fault is making the brakes press hard in the wet and then release after 2seconds. BMW have advised me to clear the remap so the can replace the chip in the CID which is going to cost me around 5k euro. My question is do you know what I can do and is there another solution Thanks 🙏

came across your channel and im having trouble navigating to find my fault so i thought i would ask you direct see if you can help me . bmw 116i driving home one day and battery light came on and car started juddering then all the dials start going up and down and will not start off the button. i assumed the alternator had failed but no maybe starter no battery no.. ..found out the earth strap had corroded away , so i replaced it , but this did not fix it . so the place im at is that when i press the start button the enginge cranks about 1 10th of a turn and that is it . but will start every time from a rolling bump. so im always having to park on a hill. im in the uk and any pointers will be greatfully recieved. i have scanned it and only showing A6CF and A6D1 Thanks inn advance

Hi BMW Doctor I have an e63 that's throwing regular faults when I switch on. It's always either PDC fail, or Rear number plate light fail, or Rear fog light fail. It gives one of these three everytime I switch on the ignition. Usually I can clear fault by turning the failed item on and off a few times and it clears. Also has an oil level sensor fault. - could these issues be the module you replaced in this video? Thanks

What an absolute legend - been scratching my head at K-can errors for a while - no idrive and literally 20 K-can errors around the car Will try replacing this module an report back! Thanks for everything - your knowledge has literally saved me £100's if not £1000's

@@BMWDoctor just to update. Replaced KBM And Cleaned ECU contacts which had a bit of oxydisation. Still getting batter drain and these god dame kcan/can errors Any other suggestions mate? Looked everywhere can't find any solution other than this

Found the issue from one of your other videos. Pulled Kombi fuse. Saved me souch headache and cash. Absolute legend. Of I could buy you a pint I would lol

@@Bfc5819 hey im currently facing a similar issue, I have no idrive. I’ve replaced the module in the rear and it just glitches but won’t work. I also get a lot of errors popping up on my dash for no reason. Did changing the KBM help with that at all? Also if u managed to fix ur problem could you explain what exactly was it that solved it. Thank you!

Thanks for the info. I have an e60 that i can't get the steering wheel to align, it has active steering system. I removed the battery and when i reconnect the steering wheel got crooked. Any help on that?

I have an E93 with a battery drain issue. Ruled out all the obvious things. A couple of times I've had heavy steering. Would I have this some module in my car? And where do I buy a replacement? Does it have to be coded to my car?

Can this be a common cause of similar issues in a 2011 X3 F25? ive been quoted £500 for a new slip ring and another £700 for a new JBE. no mention of a Central electrical module.

I'm running into the same issue, I'm a mobile tech and was called in to a shop to look at car that came in for an intermittent (I was able to repeat this to confirm customer complaint) no crank no start the battery was shot and would not take a charge, all powers and grounds were sound, no voltage drops, system voltage at terminal 50. So being it was also the wrong battery so we replaced it and registered the new agm battery. No problems with the starterThe idrive is constantly rebooting (car was hot inside) till the a/c cooked the interior and now it works correctly. Could this be the culprit? How do I prove that this is the issue rather than just replacing it? This is a customer's car and I can't just throw parts at it. It also has multiple otter codes in it as well that I have to address. 2007 BMW 525XI 3.0L, L6, USA/Canada.

Hi from NZ. Just got a 04 645i. Different warning lights have come on and then stopped coming on, but at the moment its the SRS light thats staying on. That it is intermittent caused me to think its an electrical thing.
