BMW 1 Hour Alloy Kerb-Rash removal- No Paint needed!
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Here's a quick method of fixing damage to alloys caused by hitting the curb (or anything else) on the rim. This method uses a whetstone and the 3M Headlight Restoration Kit!
Whetstone: amzn.to/3aXWGPo

I hate curbing alloys, and in this lock-down situation sending them off for refurb isn't a good idea. This is a simple method I have used a few times now and has worked well for me - but I'll explain it all in the video.

Phenomenal work Tim. You've made yet another video showing a simple, easy solution to a problem I didn't know I could fix! Also, it might be prudent to always include a link to the BMW side of Meeknet in the description (if traffic there is beneficial).

Good to see you adding more content to your channel. Lots of good advice. Might get around to doing mine although my damage is a lot worse.

When I got my MPars they were pretty badly curbed, I did a similar process to take off the rough parts. I had polishing stones on my angle grinder. I wish there was a better way to blend the fixed parts and the existing painted part of the wheel.
@TimmsBMWRepairsandInformation

Yes, the blending is the difficult bit!
Just managed to get rash on a 16 inch wheel of a 5er, pretty shameful moment… Gonna try this when the sunny days are back, thanks!

Does this method work for 2015 f30 335xi 442m wheels?

I bought them (Rondell 58's) new for around £800 with tyres! Fat chance of that these days.....
Such a beautiful car. What happened to BMW. Their modern cars are so boring. But great work. Looks wonderful.

What wheel style is that
After taking off some of the metal, do you need to re-balance the wheel?
@TimmsBMWRepairsandInformation
2 жыл бұрын
Not unless you take large lumps off - the wheel alloy is pretty light!
Can u tell me what I need Tim. Just Like what u using in video. I Put new 19 inch alloys on my bmw costing me £1400, and I knocked them a couple of times.already ☹️

Yes, the details are in the description.
Another great video, would it be a good idea to have the wheel rebalanced afterwards? I have an E63 would love to see this technique on those ellipsoid wheels, thanks again Tim
@TimmsBMWRepairsandInformation

Thanks Douglas! With the amount I took off on the E31 balancing would not be a bad idea, but the E64 didn't need much at all and would be fine.

Did you forget where you are Timm? It's kerb and tyre. Lol And I'd rather watch grass grow besides my current wheels are chrome so I avoid the curb like a virus. I had wheels like that on my 530i. I really like them.

Hello Sophia, they are Rondell 58's - they stopped being produced just after I bought mine in 2012 - lots of E31's have them fitted in the UK
I bought a 2023 BMW X6 M50i last month on the 10th and I accidentally grinded the rim at the ATM drive through the next week smh… I’m gonna try this out

Job looks awesome, but the part that was damaged and repaired, don*t you have to put a clear coat to protect the areas,?.
@TimmsBMWRepairsandInformation
3 жыл бұрын
Hello Enrique, the first time I did this I re-applied lacquer, but on all subsequent repairs I haven't and there has been no corrosion after many years - the alloy stays bright and polished.
Hang on, aren't those wheels painted? have you not just effectively polished off the paint around the rim?
@TimmsBMWRepairsandInformation
2 жыл бұрын
No, they are a polished alloy and the finish is identical after this work as it was before.
What finish is that on the lips. Is it diamond cut

But those wheels are clear-coated. I guess the repaired part will age differently without the clear-coat panted on.
