BMPCC6K G2 VS BMPCC6K Pro 4k

#bmpcc6k #bmpcc6kpro #bmpcc6kg2
You can find the original BMPCC6K for 25-30% cheaper than BMPCC6K G2 and yet if you need the 6k (spoiler alert! - no-one really needs it) - then get the Pro version. Internal ND's is a lifesaver, you folk who work in the field you will know.

    The G2 is actually a great first buy for people coming into the ecosystem. They removed the terrible and borderline useless internal ND, which means you can use LucAdapter to still turn it into a nearly FF camera, yet with all the other benefits from the Pro camera. The extra money is worth the investment, trust me.

    If you haven't been in the BM ecosystem and you're looking to get in, this may be worth it, and IMHO, it's better than the 6K Pro mainly because the internal NDs on the Pro aren't that great and don't help with IR pollution. You're better off with external IRNDs that you can buy from NISI, Firecrest, Schneider and so on. That's it. If you're already here in the BM world? Yes. Save that cash.

  • @CINENIMUS

    @CINENIMUS

    2 жыл бұрын

    IR pollution is over exaggerated. I use the camera daily and travel all kinds of places in the world never have issues with it and if I do - there are ways to deal with it without an IRND. I have NISI filters too but not impressed. They are not as good as Polar Pro or B&W IMHO. The cast from internal NDs is so easy to fix way less pain than carrying a bunch of NDs trying to juggle them on location. All subjective though Im a single operator - people with bigger crews or who just shoot in their house or a studio will have different preferences.

  • @Aaron_Smith_OM

    @@CINENIMUS Disagree. Especially with Polar Pro, they are the ENTIRE reason I started learning about IR pollution with their basecamp system. And NiSi was my first stop and, especially 4 and 5 stops and beyond, you can see the reddish color in the blacks or even greens get a little lost. Simple fix, either with a hot mirror or IR cut. No extra steps in post and that's a plus for any camera.

    I love your opinions on comparing the G2 with the Pro. I have used both and I 2nd your advice. It is hard to have an opinion on saying no to larger batteries because they can NEVER be large enough but on the other points: Losing the ND filters is brutal compared to a tilting/brighter screen and a larger body. The screen tends to be in an awkward place behind the camera (in my opinion should tilt and flip on all pocket cameras because of this) and is sometimes too small for pulling focus at an open iris. I always use an external monitor for these reasons. What works well is using the on-camera monitor as a secondary monitor for peaking/other camera assist stuff and having a clean image on the external monitor. The money you save can be used on an external monitor which is required on set anyhow. Another positive with having built-in NDs is that it frees up a slot on your matte box making the rig lighter/giving space for another filter. SUPER helpful on the Ursa! I would strongly recommend the 6K camera. The consumer side of video is still trying to catch up to 4K. Just look at ARRI as an example of the market/technological advancements. But the production side of the video is actually moving towards 6K and 8K.

    Great video! I currently have a rigged out 4k (with ext battery, matte box and nd filters, ext monitor etc.) and I am also not sure if it is worth the upgrade to a 6K G2, 6K Pro or 6K FF. Lots of the perks of the 6k are already in my rig and apart from the resolution, the image and look seems similar and not that of a HUGE difference? Or perhaps a 6K is more future proof and better for narrative films? I don’t know for sure… I'm considering upgrade to 6K G2 over the other two, because the difference of the 6K Pro pretty much only is the built-in ND filter, like you mentioned in the video. Thank you!

    @@CINENIMUS Thanks for your reply! So I already have a BMPCC 4k + speedbooster. And I already use EF lenses. I'm considering an upgrade to 6k G2, because of the 6k resolution and I'm looking for a leap in quality, sharpness, colors, overall "look" and perhaps a more future proof camera. But I am not sure if changing from BMPCC4k to 6K G2 will make that much of a difference and is worth the upgrade. As for other features: because I already have a BMPCC 4k rig with a speedbooster, and ext. monitor, and a v-mount, some of the improvements of the 6k G2 (like better battery life, flippable monitor, EF mount) aren't THAT important. The extra €€€ for built-in ND for the 6k Pro isn't worth it for me either. For me, I want to make short narrative films (relatively small crew), documentary stuff and make my clients happy with all kinds of videocontent. The 6k G2 has a crazy deal of €1500 and if I sell my BMPCC 4k (+cage + speedbooster), it is "only" €400 extra for me to upgrade. But then again: only if it makes a significant difference in colors/quality/sharpness/flexibility.

    In my country G2 is much cheaper than PRO version... And everyone needs something different. You maybe need in body ND filters cause you using BMPCC in handheld. Someone else using BMPCC in big rig and that person using high quality system filters (so do not need build in NDs). Someone else is fine with BMPCC 4K but needs a flip-up bright display and wants to use the BMPCC in handsheld. Another thing is that the G2 and PRO versions offer additional batteries detachable during shooting and the total battery life is almost 3 hours. So overall I do not agree with you. Just everyone needs something different and that's why the cameras exist.
