Blueprint Guide - Trains Part 1 - Satisfactory - Update 8

Ойындар

I love trains. There is something very satisfying about seeing a bunch of trains moving a bunch of parts all around the world. The rail lines also carry power with them making them a fantastic way to branch out and start setting up some factories in other biomes. In this video I am going to go over the basic blueprints I use to build the train station, single line tracks, and the double tracks. This will be the first of 2 or 3 videos that will go over train blueprints and even some of the logistics.

The goal for these videos is to show real examples of how load balancing each factory can go. I am by no means an expert and still have a lot to learn. If you see anything out of place or have questions please let me know below!

How do you construct your double track curves? I keep getting basic wall clipping on the inside of the curve or misalignment

The inside of the curve will definitely have some clipping although the overlap should be pretty small. I try to stick to fairly gentle turns. If you try to make it a sharper turn the clipping gets really noticeable though. With the blueprint they should snap together in default mode pretty easily and be aligned. Blueprint mode won’t work unless you nudge it into place.

At 7:44, I cannot rotate the catwalk like in the video. When I hold ctrl it spins the catwalk in place, it doesn't notch it to different angles. I've seen others do this in other videos and for the life of me, haven't been able to figure out why I can't. Any ideas?

That’s a good question! I played around with the catwalks and I did notice they only rotate when you hold ctrl and look at a mid point of the side of another catwalk crossing. They don’t rotate off foundations. If that doesn’t help there is another method of rotating that actually gives smaller increments and smoother turns. kzread.info/dash/bejne/o6Bsj8lrn5rddsY.htmlsi=WyRjQ5_Bbj15DjP4 DC is another fantastic creator that I’ve learned a lot from.

I love your blueprint series! there was a blueprint I saw once, dont remember where, but it was a road that was a 45 degree corner, so you could use 2 in order to get a perfect 90 degree corner. EDIT: for the down ramp, maybe if you created a specific down ramp blueprint, it would be easier to snap since it would start at the top? I dont know maybe im wrong I havent tried it.

Thank you so much! For trains making a 90 degree turn, easiest is to go 3 foundations forward and 3 to the right or left. You can make it smaller. I think the tightest is 17m instead of the 24m that 3 foundations is. So you can totally make some 90 degree turns in the blueprinter. I just have a hard time making that sharp of a turn look good. The ramps and snapping are tricky. I’ll try again, maybe you can add a temp beam to snap to and then delete. Thanks for the suggestion.

@@moo121 well, my suggestion requires a separate blueprint for up and down. you might not want to use an extra blueprint, preferring to use the same one. as it is the walls trick works pretty well.

Out of interest, do the angled train track foundations eventually match up with the world grid? Essentially creating a perfect right angle turn?

  • @moo121

That’s a fantastic question and thanks for asking, I wanted to talk about this. When using the catwalk crossing and you scroll to change the angle, it moves 10 degrees each time. So each of the blueprints will turn 10 degrees and 9 together will get you a nice 90 degree turn. It will be aligned with the global grid BUT it won’t be on it. It’ll be a few meters off in each direction.

@@moo121 hmm thats interesting, as long as its close enough that a train track will look straight when connected, i think that will be good enough!

Why the use of power tower if the stations transfer power? And Great Video!

Thank you so much! That’s a great question. One of the nice things about load balancing all my factories is that everything is clocked to the exact amount so all machines should be 100% efficient. That makes my consumption and max consumption exactly the same and it stays a nice steady flat line. I wanted to use trains but they wouldn’t keep those nice flat lines. So my trains and other things that might turn off and on, like overflow sinks, are all running on my first coal power plant to keep it separate. And the power towers carry my main power grid across the world.
