Never been able to get into games like this in my own time but being able to watch someone like Darren who both knows and loves this genre of game makes them accessible to people like me who have neither the time nor the patience to invest into them. I think I have watched almost this whole series this week, along with several of the streams. It made me get back into the game too. When I was playing path of exile I really didn't want to ridgedly follow a build guide, I was like "that changes it from playing a game to assembling IKEA furniture". I have gotten farther than I ever have before but most of my factories are built straight ahead and only have 2 or 3 final product machines. I think after I plan out a "proper" factory and feel like it's really in my brain I'll be revisiting a lot of these videos though and fixing all my half made IKEA furniture lol.

    I actually feel how you do... in my first series people got mad when they couldnt see how to rebuild exactly what I did one to one. I thought, man, thats a weird way to play the game. You're more doing data entry than creative problem solving at that point (your take on Ikea furniture is more accurate!) But with this series I decided to lean into the build-along mentality, and if people want to follow 1:1 thats fine, but I always encourage adding your own ideas ontop or making what I build more efficient as its not always completely perfect, or there's room for more. With my iron factory, there was like 200 ingots left over, so that's room for people to use that in whatever way they want perhaps. I am please this time around seeing many people in my discord post screenshots of my builds that they've altered to fit their world. So that's been nice!

    @@WhatDarrenPlays Yeah for me the follow-along aspect is more of an inspiration than a set guide on how to play the game. I'm never going to do anything exactly the same way as he does, but the build-along style gives me ideas on where to start maybe, and makes me feel more engaged with the series. It's very helpful to know what * a * solution might be, even if I'm not going to follow that to a tee.

    @@WhatDarrenPlays To be honest people learn by repetition. Some people lack general experience to go further then attempting to complete milestones, what are beginning not the point of the game. Seeing how to do things in scale and how design more effectively, they would come with own ideas over time.

  • @thalandor46

    @thalandor46

    Ай бұрын

    @@paramjeetsolanki Sure! The default recipe for Fuel turns 3 units of Crude Oil into 2 units of Fuel. With a couple of alternate recipes, you can make that ratio significantly more efficient. First, you need the Heavy Oil Residue recipe, the one with the Polymer Resin byproduct, which turns 3 units of Crude Oil into 4 units of HOR. Then, you need either Diluted Packaged Fuel [Tier 5 with a Refinery] or Diluted Fuel [Tier 7 with a Blender]. The ratios end up being the same, so the Blender variety just adds the convenience of skipping the packing/unpacking steps. These recipes will turn 1 unit of HOR and 2 units of Water into 2 units of Fuel. So at the end of it all, at the cost of some extra production lines and some water, you can basically quadruple your Fuel production, when compared to the default recipe. This approach is also utilized in things like Oil Tripling, which is a large complex setup to get 3 Rubber or 3 Plastic out of 1 Crude Oil.

    Just spent all day today building a diluted packaged fuel power plant. It's well worth it to use the heavy oil residue and diluted packaged fuel alternate recipes. One pure oil node overclocked to 600m³/min will yield 1600m³/min of fuel. This nets about 15,000MW.

    Awesome video, the only comment I would make is that if you wanted to save on resources, you can actually decrease the potency of the output conveyors on the fuel refineries based on which direction they're going. E.g., if they're flowing left to right, then the left-most only needs a mk1 between its splitter and the next (with the output being 30p/m) as does the second, and then after that you need 2x mk2 belts, then 2x mk 3 belts, etc. It's very picky, and may not be worth the effort to be fair at this stage in the game

    Hello Darren..love the series. I posted a comment way back on the coal power plant upgrade video. I am stuck and was wondering if you could help...here is what I wrote...i have been following along step by step with you. I got a little lost when you first set up the big coal plant, but thankfully and mercifully you released your save which i promptly downloaded and started using from that point on. Now I am at the 1st expansion of the power plant and i followed you with the powering up of the number of water extractors, I upgraded the 4 miners to Mk2 and over clocked to 200% giving 240 coal per minute. I upgraded all the belts to Mk3 up to the first set of splitter where they change to Mk2 belts and then to Mk1 belts leading to the lifts taking the coal to generator. All of the generators are under clocked to 88.888% Some of the generators all the way to the left of where the belts come in are starved for coal. The first three all work at 100% and have 100 coal in them..the others actually get to 0 coal and go offline until 1 coal comes into it..I have tried force feeding 100 coal into the generators that are missing it and for a while I get a straight line and 4800mw production, but soon after the coal dissipates again from certain generators. For example the far back generator are all working at 100%. Any idea what could be wrong? Appreciate any help you can provide. Thanks

    Hey Darren, amazing build! I'm curious, when you put down the turbofuel refineries, why don't two rows share the same junctions & splitters (where the four rows do not face the same directions, but there are two groups, each with two rows facing each other). Just aesthetic preference?

  • @WhatDarrenPlays

    @WhatDarrenPlays

    2 ай бұрын

    Its because I wanted to keep things in groups of 4 - 4 groups of generators is the main constraint because they are 2.5 foundations wide, so a line of 17 generators is 42.5 foundations long. Going any longer distance than that is of course possible but itd be quite tedious to run down a line that long. So i have a line of 17, facing another 17 getting fed from one pipe. Thats one group of generators. To keep it simple for viewers, that one group gets fed by one group of refineries. That way each has their own pipe and it can make troubleshooting a bit easier and the layout more simple to follow. Hope this makes sense (itll be clearer in the next video) and thank you!

    I recently started playing the game, I already get scared by seeing your videos, seeing the scale of this game and then today you say "for very advanced players they'll do crazy......., but we're not there yet" 😂 I'm scared beyond belief.

    Ha, you just have to break things down to smaller components! We've almost unlocked every feature the game has to offer in this playthrough, just trains and drones left to go. Then its just a matter of building bigger scale I guess!

    Whats not good about using a 1M foundation?

  • @WhatDarrenPlays

    Foundations of all sizes align their center to the world grid X, Y and Z axis. So using a 2meter foundation, or 4, aligned to the world grid is fine. If you try align a 1m foundation, it’ll be 0.5m offset on the Z axis.

    I have very low expectations of 1.0, and I personally didn't expect any of the things they said wasn't coming. I have never beaten the game, so don't mind them changing end game recipes. I don't mind them changing recipes at all to be honest, as long as people agree the changes feel like an improvement. And unless they literally lifted the model from the mod community, I wouldn't call it stolen. I think taking ideas from the mod community and putting them in game is great. Taking assets or code from the modding community is not the same, and I wouldn't want that unless they were paid for it.

    What do you have against blenders and diluted fuel? It only took me 2hrs of retries to get the alternative recipe... (I'm now waiting for one last alt recipe for my closed loop nuclear power... Only about an hr and a half of restarting... Instant plutonium cell... cause I do like instant Quaker Oats...) Curious to see if I missed* anything so I'm gonna watch your videos and thanks for sharing Blueprints without the ransoming of your viewers. I've learned a lot from inspecting your stuff, after the confusion wore off each time... The first step to understanding is being confused... Lucky, I learned that early in my STEM life... Now as an older man, I use games like these to keep my mental faculties challenged... But I've noticed I'm still losing my marbles, even as I consistently pick them up if I notice a few fall out my ears. __________________________________________________ * Holy crap, I learned alot of stuff I didn't know I didn't know (but I know Idk a lot), from MK3 power poles I forgot about, to being able to place explosives on the trees without going down to the ground to chainsaw them to death... Thumbs up on the video!

    So here’s why: I havent unlocked blenders. I havent finished tier 7, or the space elevator phase. Even if I had, I have no aluminium production or radio control units to even build blenders. As some people are playing along, this is the *first* oil facility ive built, so I’m going with a relatively simple recipe for this first oil based power plant. Gotta walk before you can run!

    @@WhatDarrenPlays Well, as I'm been watching your video and I can say I've learned a lot of things from you already: - Mk 3 poles, whoops I forgot to unlock them... Probably would have helped on my 6, 58 (I prophylactically always take off the tip, so I never do the max possible, which I think is 59) Gen turbo fuel builds; - I didn't make a little blueprint for my refineries... So I hand built 60 with the feeds... Dumb; - you can blow up trees instead of going down to the ground... ...and at least 3 other things so far I've already forgotten, I have to take notes... Ffs... "this is the _first_ oil facility ive built" I read that in the title of the video got overwhelmed by the amount of info I was watching and immediately forgot your intention in the video. I didn't mean to nitpick, I was just curious and if I remembered the title of your video, I could have answered my own question. With the aluminum production, I would never do it without wet concrete and the alt recipe for aluminum ingots ever again... That was a pain in the butt and I never could balance the water well at all, and I can add, subtract, multiple AND divide! Thanks for the video, it's helped me and I didn't finish it all the way through yet!
