Bluegrass Breadth ~ THE OCOEE PARKING LOT BLUEGRASS JAM

Ойын-сауық

Bluegrass Breadth 720P-HD
BLUEGRASS UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL, FROM START TO FINISH - OCOEE, FLORIDA 11.18.2016.
You may have thought all bluegrass music sounded the same. No doubt, there are many beloved standard tunes, and you’ll hear a few here. But, on this Friday night, the pickers tried out some great songs I had never heard in the twenty years I have been attending this Jam in Ocoee. Some were less traditional but still reached back into the 60s.
Bluegrass covers a broad range of the traditional music spectrum. Wikipedia defines “bluegrass music” this way: Bluegrass music is a form of American roots music, and a related genre of country music. Influenced by the music of Appalachia, Bluegrass has mixed roots in Irish, Scottish and English traditional music, and was also later influenced by the music of African-Americans through incorporation of jazz elements. You will hear a broad and interesting sample of traditional folk, roots, folk, bluegrass, and a little country in this video.
As you watch, keep in mind this is an OPEN JAM. It is not a rehearsed performance. Each picker, in turn, chooses a tune, and he or she sings or plays it accompanied by all the other pickers. Everyone gets a chance no matter the skill level. The Jam meets every Friday evening at 6:30 in the parking lot behind the Pizza Hut at 15840 West Colonial Dr., Ocoee, Florida 34761.

Lowell Trent ("The Old Home Place") and Jerry Jernigan ("Rabbit in a Log") are steadfast in their support of the jam and can always be depended on for delivering the goods. Thanks for bringing them to the front. I thought you might like Johnny's cover at 23:03 as well.

I would like to add a technical note at 31:35. This is Tim Clifford's cover song, a beautiful melancholy ballad about one's roots. My apologies to Tim for destroying his perfect ending. My video camera cuts each clip at 5 minutes, and I ran out of recording time just when it counted as Tim repeated the ending phrase. I had to do some cut and paste. Sorry, Tim.

Looks like I've been blacklisted for deserting you earlier. It'll need more than that to kick me off your site though - your videos are far too good to miss. Best regards from the old UK guy.

Dear Derek, you nor anyone else would ever be "blacklisted." The only time I have ever removed any comments is when the language wasn't fit for a family audience. Welcome back! I hope you will remain a friend of my channel. For health reasons, I am not quite as quick to respond as I used to be, and I apologize. I am so glad you and Sophie are with me.
