Bluegrass music transcends attitudes, borders, and ideologies, and trumps politics. It’s impossible to stereotype those who play and those who come to listen. Bluegrass is the great equalizer, bringing together people with a common interest in music with feeling, from the heart. Their backgrounds include attorneys, surveyors, students, pastors, teachers, physicians, retirees, and on and on.
As you watch, keep in mind this is an OPEN JAM. It is not a rehearsed performance. Each picker, in turn, chooses a tune, and he or she sings or plays it accompanied by all the other pickers. Everyone gets a chance no matter the skill level. It seemed that this Jam was composed mostly of experienced pickers. The Jam meets every Friday evening at 6:30 in the parking lot behind the Pizza Hut at 15840 West Colonial Dr., Ocoee, Florida 34761.

Walter, it would be a pleasure to meet you. The jam was actually larger than you see here. I arrived quite late, and a number of the pickers and grinners had departed. It was the first really chilly night as you know if you are in the area. Hope to see you soon.
Is there a published or established schedule for these jam sessions? I'd love to drive over from Tampa to witness this in person. You can't beat people doing what they love!

Hi Rick, if the weather over here isn't too nasty, the Jams are held every Friday evening starting at 6:30 PM behind the Pizza Hut at 15840 West Colonial Dr. (State Rd. 50), Ocoee, Florida 34761. The parking lot is at the intersection of Maguire Rd. and State Rd. 50. Been in the same parking lot for twenty-five years. The pickers don't play if it's lightning, raining, or if it gets much below 50 degrees, or hurricane conditions. Please do come over.
I think I done died and gone on to glory! Vivatones!! Do you happen to know the tune played from 32:10-39:00? Lord a mercy!

There are lyric variations, but the original version is entitled "I Am a Pilgrim" by Johnny Cash. vivatones66 yes! Very laid back and bluesy! Can't get enough of it...have listened to it over and over. Johnny Cash never did that song quite like this one, in fact no one ever did! Why, he'd be not only proud, he'd have been downright jealous lol! Wish I could get this as a single on KZread. Your visualization of the lazy porch dogs on the Ga peanut farm was perfect!
