Hi Maggie, I do believe that you got short changed. The song is longer then that both live and studio. It's even longer live because there is also a little drum solo in there that the drummer does. I could see that you liked the song, so I didn't want you to miss out on getting to hear the rest of it. Great reaction!

I live in “the outer boroughs” of New York City, and we ADORED rock bars. In the 70’s the drinking age was 18. And we all had fake ID’s anyway. But Blue Oyster Cult would sometimes play in a rock bar under the pseudonym “Soft White Underbelly”, Oh to be a teenager in the 70’s❤

  • @tribaltalker1608

Soft White Underbelly and Stalk Forest Group were earlier band names before they came up with "Blue Oyster Cult". I believe they sometimes used those names to play smaller venues when BoC was a big name in the 80's. Can't remember where I read that. Long time ago. Fun fact: "Stalk Forest" is referenced in their Cultosaurus Erectus album artwork.

One of their biggest hits off of one of their best albums, Specters is great, start to finish and definitely worth a full listen when you can. You just saw the original band, the 1970s is their classic period though they still made some great music after drummer/vocalist Albert Bouchard left in 1980 or so. As long ad Buck Dharma and Eric Bloom are in the band, they always sound like BOC. Great band until this day, they still play around, seen them 19 times 1972 - 2013, they always delivered. Try Nosferatu from the same album, do the studio original for an amazing noir vibe about vampires. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎹🎶

There are so many great songs in BOC's library, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Check out their 1988 album "Imaginos". It's an album length sci-fi rock opera. In particular, "The Siege and Investiture of the Castle Frankenstein" should be right up your alley. Carpe Diem! I saw them at a open air show with 30000 of my closest friends in the summer of 1993. That show was Rare Earth, Iron Butterfly, BOC, the Guess Who and the Doobie Brothers. What a line up. I threw my Godzilla T-shirt on the stage in tribute. I nearly hit Buck Dharma but he side stepped it easily. I'd apologize to him if I ever get the chance but he probably won't remember. A few years later, a friend's band was thier opening act in a small club in Murray, Utah. 🏯🗼⛩️🦖

"Imaginos" is beautiful, heavy and dreamy. Really a BoC-related side project originally by Al Bouchard (drummer) and Sandy Pearlman (writer/producer). Such a shame Columbia changed the order of the tracks, had them reworked (by BoC I believe, without Al Bouchard) and then threw away some of the songs to make it less of a financial risk. It was very upsetting at the time.

In 76 or 77 I saw Blue Oyster Cult (BOC), they were the warm up group before the group I mainly came to see "Uriah Heep". BOC was fantastic and put on a better show than Uriah Heep, had a great drum solo. This was before the song "Godzilla" was made.

Two things… I never knew he actually did the Japanese part! And, why was the song cut short? Basically in half?
