I don’t want to make the comment section all depressing but at one point I wanted to end my life, I had Spotify and shuffle and BOC came on and I was suddenly like “who’s that?!?” And I’ve spent days listening to them on repeat over and over their lyrics are beautiful beyond. So thanks BOC for your music. In a way you saved me.

What a fantastic band BOC is! I've been a fan since around '91, and still I discover treasures like this song! Buck's solo on this is incredible, and Eric's laughter at the end is also something special.

Bobby just has a different style, he's no slouch and a total pro. Yeah, I prefer Al just the same but he jeopardized the show one too many times and was dispatched. This live recording needs a remix and the vocals need some tuning. I think the band has always avoided vocal tuning thinking it would make them sound like Cher or something. Today's vocal tuning can be very transparent.

@@pauldionne2884 Nah, he's just not as good. Albert was like a machine gun mixed with complexity, and is probably the only drummer I can think of whose drumming sounded like a melody and evoked emotion. I understand Albert had issues, but it's not like the rest of the band were saints either. From what I understand, the reason he got kicked out stemmed from him being with a girl who apparently was with other members of the band at some point (ie a groupie), and their wives/girlfriends weren't happy with her being there. So, Albert decided to drive by himself, which made him late to concerts in Europe due to the language difference. This just caused the powder keg to explode. They all should have taken a step back, as the fans missed out on more great BOC albums.

Popoff's great BOC book only suggests an Alchemist working scientifically, psychologically or at a paranormal level ... & the joke being on him is a taunt from omnipotent forces ... this is Blue Oyster Cult after all, I have spent 39 years on & off trying to work out the meanings of this glorious stuff.. come back to me in 2040 I might have an answer.

The lyrics seem like drug experimentation. Opening the veins for heroin, poison in the heart and mind, after rebellion but will settle for lies. Theres a lot of other things that point to heroin, that warm feeling like your head is on fire, imprisonment of addiction, the joke is an iron needle, now he knows the secrets of the iron and mind mixed together. Just my interpretation.

Do you mean the X-files "Smoking Man"? Cuz that's what Allen was, BÖC's Smoking Man. And it killed him. He died from emphysema. It's a horrible way to die as you slowly suffocate to death and there's nothing to stop it because the cigarettes have destroyed your lungs. Happened to my Mom and my Dad and was going to happen to me, but 5 years ago I stopped smoking. I'm 67 now and I think there's some permanent damage, but at least I stopped before it killed me and I can breathe and walk fine without oxygen like my mom had to have. If you smoke, stop now. Don't wait like I did.
