Blue Oyster Cult - "Astronomy" - October 26, 1979

Музыка

From the band's 1979 Mirrors tour and clocking in at nearly 11 minutes, this is a very good and overlooked performance of this BOC epic.

I was fortunate to have seen the Bouchard Bros. play at a barn dance on their parent's farm in upstate NY. This was before they graduated high school and before BOC. I was a young teenager and my family vacationed just down the road from their place. A far cry from BOC and this concert, but I can say I knew them when....

saw BOC many times in the 70's and 80's. one of my favorite bands of all time. saw them at the spectrum in philly many times. saw them a few times in phoenix at the colesium. saw them in tenn a few times. once in a litlle bar in murfreesboro tn. saw them in baltimore civic center, steel town. they were and still one of my favorite live bands.of all time. the only band i have seen more than them is frank zappa. have all of BOC'S albums, cassettes, and cd's. have some on all three. put many miles on my vehicles back in the day riding around listening to them smoking some refer. not hurting anybody, just enjoying life with my best friends and some good rock-n-roll. we had it made in the 60's and 70's.

I lived in the Los Angeles for many years. The great host with most Bolle became a good friend. Still till this day. He told me how you passed on some of your soundboards to him..so cool. I would go to his "Museum of The Cult" a couple times a month after work and listen to one of the shows id had seen. You had your pulse directly connected to them musically. Are you the first or one of the first to create "True" stereo sound at a live show? Sounded like it. Thanks for the memories guy. Best of Heath To You!

Hey John, I see you posted this a year ago:).......... I just saw BOC 2 weeks ago and this was the conversation ironically. Now, let me say first that my friends and I are all musicians, some guitarists, NONE I say NONE that can compete with Donald Roeser. Sure we can wail...... but some is a bit of trick or illusion so to speak. There are techniques such as, trills, vibratos, pull offs ect.... that require practice and skill, then you throw in some delay and distortion and you look like a star to some people..... But, Donald is incredibly melodic and clean picking. To do so at that blinding speed is an immense talent. He's also incredibly imaginative, has beautiful phrasing etc. He is simply a phenom and a great human being to boot. Cheers.

I see both of you posted a little while ago but the talent of Buck is top notch. I have played for sometime and his melody is up there with the best (Rhodes, Van Halen, Young etc etc . . .) This is the part I like best someone told Tom Petty your stuff is easy to play. He replied with then you write it. With Buck your stuff is hard to play. He says yes but you try and write it. All sound starts as silence then you give it form. Buck has a sixth sense about melody. This song is great but could use more cow bell. Keep Rocking BOC ! ! !

Eff the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Hey Elvis, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Beatles, Stones, the Who, Beach Boys, Kinks, Motown, Stax, and that ilk -- that's a given. After that it's all up for discussion. But I tell you, I listen to the Amazing Blue Oyster Cult as much as any of those guys. I mean more.

I was at the July concert this same year in Alpine Valley, was one of the best concerts in my life. This was my first live BOC concert, the second time I saw them was years later playing at a local venue in Minneapolis, that was still great, plus got to shake Buck Dharma's hand afterwarrds. But, yeah Astronomy is probably a song I play more than anything else by BOC.

So fortunate to have seen this band maybe a dozen times over the years. The first time at Magic Mountain in California on the very same stage where Spinal Tap opened for the puppet show. They blew me away then when they all grabbed guitars for "Godzilla" and I've been a fan ever since. This is a great version of a classic. Buck Dharma just goes bananas on this version. How can one little man hold so many riffs?

A few months later, I would see them at the Santa Cruz Civic. The last day of the 1970's. I saw a girl there that took my breath away, but I was a little pipsqueak. It took me thirty years, but now she's madly in love with me. Life.

I saw BOC at the Dane County Coliseum with Be Bop Deluxe in Oct'76. It's kind of strange that the few audio/video clips that I've loaded from that era seem way too slow from what I remember of that concert...I mean...they were like lightning that night...one song after another. They did a medley of Paul Revere's "Kicks" and "Flaming Telepaths" that still brings a smile to my face. I was pretty young and it was one of my first concerts, but I often compared other band's live performances to BOC's. Be Bep Deluxe was also an awesome band. Bill Nelson is still considered a great English guitarist.
