Blue Lock is Good, Stop Complaining

Фильм және анимация

Team sports are played by individuals, but won by teams and nowhere is that more apparent than in the world of sports anime. Haikyuu, Ace of the Diamond, Slam Dunk; all the greats center their characters around one common aspect, the team.
Blue Lock rejects that assertion, claiming that it is the team who must play at the behest of the individual and the individual must claim victory by being as egotistical and dominating as possible.
If you couldn't tell, Blue Lock is over-the-top soccer action and it's absolutely incredible. Realism be damned, Blue Lock is fun and is taking me away from my Man Utd. misery.
Twenty-two men chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end, the Blue Lock always wins.

As a life long soccer fan (and a Bluelock manga reader), I can say that Bluelock's handling of soccer comes from a place of love and admiration for the sport. It mirrors so many real-world soccer things brilliantly. I get the critique that it may be overbearing in its individualistic messaging, but personally I find it refreshing~

I think exaggerating one or two aspects of a sport can be an exceptionally fun new way to experience something we already watch so often

I have been playing football as a hobby for the last 9-10 years, started as a defender later on played mid. But there were times, a lot of times where i was in a position to take the shot and score the goal, instead i passed the ball to someone with better chances of scoring(at times they scored at times they didn't). Sometimes i even got criticized for it as well, later on when i started taking more chances i scored more goals as well. It was not that i stopped assisting but i could score by myself or create amazing plays by myself with a bit of extra confidence. For me that is the message in blue lock. I love it

Even in the 2nd episode, Blue Lock addresses some criticisms of the point it's trying to make. "In Blue Lock, everything has to do with soccer."

This is a great video. I think people do get hung up a lot on the realism of Blue lock. Every anime has it's exaggerations and those exaggerated moments are the reason we watch it at all otherwise we'd just watch the sport. If I were to compare it to real games Aoi Ashi is like watching your everyday league games where the better coach can easily dominate with tactics alone because it's a marathon not a sprint, while Blue lock is like watching the champions league knock out stage where everything is on the line and matches tend to be intense because both teams have great coaches so it ends up all being up to the players to make the difference. Anyone who likes intense physical games would love seeing it back to back in blue lock anyone who likes seeing thrilling tactical battles wil enjoy seeing that being mentioned in Aoi Ashi

Thank you! Yeah I absolutely love those comparisons, champions league feels like a great fit too given how many top fight players are usually on all those teams and all the things they can do.

i just caught up to the manga and i gotta say i never felt this much adrenaline in a manga in my life whether it was me reading or the characters. the thing that i love about it is how outlandish some of the characters and the artwork that goes along with match whether its a goal, the state of the field, or someone making a declaration so disrespectful you just have no choice but to take it seriously.

Blue Lock is hitting revolutionary status if it can continue their story and message efficiently. The manga does an amazing job so I hope the anime can continue to progress.

For episode 3 - alot of people were mad about the "bad teamwork" and some even dropped it. Which is just baffling to me as there is coherent narrative reasons for it - considering they're all egotistical teenage strikers with some being told to play in positions they have little experience in - it would definitely result in tomfoolery. This alongside the pressure that if they get locked off they would never be able to play for Japan's national team again for their lives as well as the glaring rule of the 3 losing teams will only have the __person with the most goals__ passing the first selection. They are Team Z, the worst players in Blue Lock. Actually being part of the two teams who wins the most definitely wasn't on their minds (top 2 get to pass with no players getting locked off). Ego asks them to choose between their team's victory or their own goals - to which these egotistical strikers immediately goes for "we're never going to be in the two best teams of our building, so I might as well score as many goals as possible so AT LEAST only I get to pass this selection."

Blue Lock's ideology isn't incorrect. It's not about forgetting you have teammates, or trying to go solo every match. It's about playing to actually score a goal, rather than playing to pass the ball. It's about scoring yourself for the team to win. It's not about selfishly taking the ball for yourself all the time. It's about having the desire to score a goal, from which a victory is born out of. Playing as a team is commonly misconstrued to mean that you blend with the rest of your team. That's not the case. A team plays the game, but it is a person that scores goals, passes, blocks shots, creates plays. It is when all of these things come together that you can play as a team. The "ego" in this case isn't always for scoring goals in Blue Lock. We see characters who's egos are to assist someone else rather than to score themselves. It's about not holding yourself back from what you can do. It's about not holding yourself back in fear of failing, or in the name of the team spirit. Because that's how people grow. If you never score a goal, how will you ever get better at scoring a goal? It's the act of allowing yourself to grow.

As someone who has read this manga to the latest chapter it is definetly good. It's such a fun anime that spits in the face of the other sports anime and friendship. If people want "real soccer" they can go watch Ao Ashi. The thing about Blue Lock is it speaks facts. Ego even points out the best players in the world are complete Egoists and even says "Awful right? Yet they are the best strikers!" As you guessed there I S team play. Some characters do still pass when they are put in that position. There comes a very important match where they are put against a strong team and start out losing to them. THEN THEY ABSOLUTELY KICK BACK. Because it is litterally a team of strikers they have so many attack combinations and even overwhelms the other team who even have Itoshi Sae (the red haired guy in the interview) who is one of the best in the U20 league. Even in this important match they still show the ego of the team. There is a point where a certain character litterally steals the ball from his teammate and ends up scoring which suprises the enemy so much they are in disbelief.

Being egoist in this show doesnt mean not passing the ball, they have their own way of explaining it and the concept is nice.

It's refreshing to see a video like this. Deep analysis is always fun, but sometimes you need to cut to the chase. I think that's been needed in regards to Blue Lock. So many people take it seriously, and bashes it for being gratuitous and excessive. Really enjoyed this!

Very-light manga spoilers (Later abilities obtained by characters. Not mentioning who has them) If you actually see some of the top players in the world in Blue Lock’s world, I’d argue that Blue Lock’s very individualistic spirit is good if it’s not shut down by the team it’s in. When we’ve got players who can make flawless passes, players who can trap pretty much anything, players who can juggle and volley while feinting a shot 4-5 times in a row, players who can practically see any move before it happens, players with an accurate enough kick to score goals from a corner kick and so much more, I think it’s fair to encourage a very individualistic soccer. I’m not a traditional soccer fan myself but when players are next to gods on the field when allowed to go play the way they want, it makes sense to allow them to go wild.

It’s a really good point that if you’re going to give players these insane powers it would be pretty ridiculous to then force them to not use them, best thing is the story is set up to let these powers shine and be put fully on display

What is unrealistic is that you only have strikers, but they are able to defend and goal keep so well. Those are completely different skill sets. Can you imagine messi or ronaldo playing goalie? They would be 100% trash at it. You have an anime where all the goalkeepers have no idea how to play the role. You might as well be scoring on an empty goal. You don’t train goalies by having other goalies try to score on them.

I dont know what people are expecting from a sports anime, its fiction, deal with it. Also bluelock has some realism too its not just the plot, who cares if the plot is to make 1 good striker, thats the uniqness of Bluelock if u asked me and thats why as a Football fan and a Blue lock fan i love the series

How on earth can you develop a good striker when your training program has no defenders or goalies. You have strikers playing defenders and goalies in practice games. Even Messi would suck as a goalie. How can you train a good striker when they are constantly playing against mediocre defenders and fledgling goalies? It a whole different ball game when they actually have to dribble past actual defenders or shoot a goal guarded by an actual goalie.
