Sure, when I wiped after going to the bathroom, it there was a moderate amount (not as much as I would have expected) of mucus and it was lightly tinged with blood. I knew right away what it was and I was excited and freaking out--just knowing that meant things were really going to happen within the next few days! And throughout the day, my contractions were irregular, but happening, and bearable. Just about every time I went to the bathroom, there was more mucus and blood--always just lightly tinged though. There was no pain or anything like that. It was almost like when you first start your period, just lightly tinged. I thought I had a bloody show with my first birth, but looking back now, I'm not sure. The blood that time was like a full blown period--very red and heavy. It was also at 29 weeks so could have been more related to the reason of premature labor.

This was so helpful, 39 weeks + 6 I lost my mucus plug 2 days ago. No contractions. Had bloody show this morning. I finally feel like I understand what my body is doing. Thank you!

Might be bloody show? When the cervix dilates the capillaries can break and that is where the pink (blood spotting) can come from.

I had light pink blood, now dark red into the toilet and when I wiped. Went to my hospital and they say it’s the start of my bloody show. I’m 1.5 dilated and 80% effaced/thin.

I literally just had my bloody show earlier today and it got me so excited because my due date is this friday!! I was so hoping I'd get it soon because I'm so ready to meet my little man 🤗💙

I have learnt so much just by watching your videos over last few months. I am 39 wks+5 today and have been gradually losing my mucus plug since yesterday. Accompanied with some pink or brown tinges here and there ( bloody show) . I was anticipating the whole mucus to come out at ones but sounds like it can leak out gradually. Noticing some cramping from time to time. Hoping contractions to pick up soon 🤞🏼

I have been losing my MP over the last couple of days, no blood tinge, just an off-white mucus. I had my first cervical exam today at 37+6 (2cm) and had some pink spotting and mild cramping afterwards. However, at this moment, 9 hours post-cervical check, WHILE WATCHING this video, I lost a good amount more mucus mixed with bright red blood. I have been in prodromal labor for the last week so I am very hopeful that this means some additional progress is being made! Thank you for this video! P.S. I especially liked the distinction you made between why the mucus could/could not present as bloody. I have never heard that explained before. Hoping to meet my son very soon ❤️

@@caitlinstewart4283 the only question I would have is whether your provider stripped your membranes during the exam. Sometimes an exam can cause more bleeding which is kind of false progress. But if you are have contractions with the bleeding then that would be a sure sign of progress.

@@birthtoolbox no membrane strip, just cervical check. I technically have sporadic contractions, though extremely mild, more like tightenings. So, not really.

I'm 37+6 today. I lost my mucus plug a week ago over a few days... 2 nights ago I had bright red spotting without mucus. My midwife said if it stopped and didnt occur again, then its not concerning. She didnt mention bloody show and i forgot to ask. Im wondering if it could be bloody show still without being in mucus & also being bright red. It was just maybe 4 or 5 drops that came out slowly as i wiped.

This is a great question for your midwife, but I agree with what she said. I would guess that it was bloody show,

I have incompetent cervix and had my cerclage removed last week. Well I have been in slow labor for a week. Going g from 1 cm to 2 the next day to 3 4 days later and 4 as of last night. I had a membrane sweep at my appointment yesterday morning. At about 9 pm I had my bloody show. Hoping things are moving along!

I had a membrane sweep at 38+3. I did not have a sweep with my first (11 years ago, I didn't even know it was a thing, but I was also 21. She came 6 days late lol) It's been about 3 days since my sweep. I had some cramping for the first 24 hours then the cramping came periodically afterwards (they were not contractions). I ended up spotting after the sweep, but it wasn't much and was brown. About 6 hours after the sweep I had that brown blood mixed with mucus. I thought it was my bloody show, but it was just the spotting mixed with the mucus plug from the sweep. I lost a little bit of mucus in the first 48 hours and i eventually stopped spotting so the mucus wasn't mixed with any blood at all which is why assume it was not my bloody show and then yesterday I pooped twice (I've been very constipated) and both times larger amounts of mucus came out but streaked with blood which I assume this time was my actual bloody show as it was a pinkish red and not brown like previously. I also took a shower later on and a little more came out 🥴 I'm really hoping he's coming soon and that I don't go over my due date. I have way more health problems this time around (thyroid cancer survivor, gerd, undiagnosed colon problems, ect) on top of just being so uncomfortable and he moves a lot at night which takes a couple hours for me to fall asleep. I loved being pregnant with my first, but I hate it this time around so I'm ready for him to come out 😅

I started noticing I was spotting on Monday not sure if it had mucus or not I was too freaked out. Went to the hospital that same day and they said it was normal. They also said baby’s head was down and that I was having irregular contractions every 30 mins but didn’t feel them. And today is Thursday and I’m still kinda spotting it’s not as much as Monday - it’s very very little but I’m still kinda freaking out. How long is bloody show if it is it supposed to last for?

Not sure, but when in doubt you can always call your doctor or midwife. Discharge increases in late pregnancy, but isn’t usually pink.

I lost my mucus plug today and it was brown, I haven’t had any contractions but a ton of light cramping. I’ve definitely experienced lightening but I’m not sure what this means

I had my cervix checked last Wednesday. Thursday I lost a big chunk of brown tinged mucous. Then nothing. Yesterday I was pink spotting and this morning I woke up to blood tinged mucous. I go in at 10 this morning for an induction (was already scheduled) but I’m glad to know things in my body are progressing a little before my scheduled induction :) I’ll be 37 weeks

@@IceKateByMoonLight I’m induced at 37 weeks with all of my pregnancies because I get pre eclampsia and my body naturally starts going into labor around 35-37 weeks. This pregnancy I will be induced again between 35-37 weeks as well :)

Hi I lost my mucus plus 2 days ago. It was brownish and gooue. Next day had another mucus plug like thing come out but it was white and clear. Today had bloody show (1.5 table spoons) with clear liquid and show was tinged pink. A few hours later had another show but this time brown. Then a few hours after having brown discharge when I empty my bladder and at the end noticed a small amount of bright red blood. Should I be concerned. Felt like something was in my pelvis after Mabry the baby's head. But the bleeding has got me concerned. Bright read and smooth mucus.

This past Monday night I experienced some slight bleeding along with lots of cervical mucus. I’m only 28 weeks so obviously I was super concerned and called my OB’s office. The following day, I had an ultrasound done where they noticed my cervix had shortened but I wasn’t dilated. Still confused as to what all of this means and if I experienced the “bloody show” or something entirely different.

I’m currently 38 weeks and 3 days. I lost my mucus plug on Sunday there was very little brown blood with it. I had my cervix checked yesterday and I’m 3 cm dialated. I think today I am having my bloody show. It’s a lot of brown blood, and some mucus. I was definitely scared because I didn’t know what was happening and my doctor told me everything is ok. thank you for putting my mind at ease with this video

I had went in on Tuesday 9/8 due to contractions and back pain and was 2 cm dikated. I would give your doctor or midwife a call and let them know. Since you are preterm you want them to be aware of any bleeding.

Brown usually means older blood. Sometimes people have some light spotting after a cervical check.

Definitely get it checked out by a care provider. That is earlier than it is expected to have bloody show.

I’m 32 weeks and tonight I went to urinate and it had bright red blood on the tissue, went to to emergency room they did monitor the baby and checked my cervix via spectulm and found no source of the blood. They sent me home. Should I be worried?

You did the right thing to go get it checked out. I would go back if you see any more blood or notice a change in the baby’s movement.

Yesterday I was having contractions every 5 minutes but very mild and then I felt like I was peeing my self and liquid with blood went down my legs, after that it has been more of a bloody mucus discharge for almost 24 hours. I was checked by my doctor and they told me the test to see if it was my water fell on the grey zone. Could it of been my bloody show and not my water, I’m now contracting every ten minutes but much more painful then yesterday. Any advised?

You could call your doctor, but usually this is just a sign that your body is getting ready for labor.

can you lose your mucous plug before bloody show? i’m 40w 5 days I started seeing bloody show once last night and then started this morning and hasn’t stopped since (I’ve had to put a pad on) but i haven’t seen any signs of mucous plug except a couple weeks ago i noticed mucous looking discharge but no blood? the bloody show i’m experiencing now has a mucous like texture but mostly like a light pink sometimes red discharge

Yes, you can definitely lose your mucous plug prior to bloody show. If you are having bright red bleeding I would check in with your care provider.

I went pee in the middle of the night and I usually always flush…this time I didn’t. Went to the bathroom again with the light on and saw a red thing at the bottom of the toilet. It didn’t make the entire water red or anything it was just sitting there like more red than brown I’d say. I’m 3 days overdue. Is this the mucus plug or the bloody snow? Hoping you can help me understand the difference and what to expect next. First baby so I’m feeling nervous!!’ Thank you!

I experienced this same thing this week (37+6) and I'm so confused if its bloody show or not ! All my MW said was not to be concerned since it was only a little and it stopped.

Hi, is it possible to have bloody show even if your cervix is still closed? I had a light spotting last Tuesday, and then I went to the doctor today (Thursday- Nov. 23,2023) after the cervical exam, my doctor told me that my cervix is not dilated. The exam can cause some bleeding and yes there can be some spotting without dilation.

I’m 40weeks 2 days and got what felt like cramping like your period about to start, the evening before then this morning at 7am felt some liquid running out of the lady bits and when I wipe it was a light pink to slightly red but not bright red I have on a pad just in case and at my regular Monday obgyn appointment …I saw a very little bit of thick mucus come out like 4 days ago which look like snot and was yellow..

It sounds like your cervix was making some change, but no significant contractions. That isn’t common, but is possible.

Check in with you doctor or midwife just to be sure. Pain like a period is normal, but blood like a period is not.

Spotting is usually normal. What you don't want to see is a lot of bleeding like a period. You are right to check in with your doctor.

Gracie, did you end up getting checked for the spotting? I’m a little concerned myself cause I wiped last night and there was a little bit of blood when I wiped. This morning I woke up and still wiping blood. Not a lot of blood but since it’s my first time being pregnant I’m not sure how much blood is ok.

That is likely due to the cervical exam.

Didn’t understand the difference between bloody show and bleeding... would bloody show mean spotting then? How far are you from delivering the baby once you see bloody show? Thanks!!

Bloody show is like spotting, but is usually mucus-y too. Unfortunately there is no way to predict the timing from bloody show to birth as it is different for everyone.

my date is over due, My due date is on 19th of March, but we are in 1 April today, I have gone to the hospital, but they ask me to calm down that labour will, surely started that's not that late. Today I just noticed bloodly show, this afternoon, what does it means, please help

Bloody show means that your body is either starting labour or close to starting!

Hi I'm 37 weeks pregnant and I've been leaking fluid for a few days now I've been 1cm for a bit and this morning was the first sign of any trace of blood...I called my midwife and she's on her way to check to see if I'm progressing, said this may be signs that my cervix has dilated some more... 🙏🏾

I have had 2 membrane sweepes performed (week apart one from another) with first one, after about 12hrs I've been losing tons of mucus plug- I thought it was a bloody show at first as it was pinkinsh/redish at first, then as day passed it turned into light brown, then eventually mucus only- it was quite shocking how much was coming out btw 🤣 anyways after 3 days of having all that discharge, things have slowed down (i had qst sweep 40weeks) and only starchy egg white discharge was coming out- usualy in the morning. I had another sweep at 41weeks- fully affaced, 4cm dilated, super strechy cervix and bulging water- I'm nearly 30hrs after and NOTHING is happening 😭 I had some pains 1st 24hrs and tiny bit of old blood with little bit of discharge- nothing compared to 1st sweep. I'm booked for an induction in 5 days, but was thinking if having another sweep would help? Or is it pointless for me? It hurt like hell second time and just worried I'll have sore cervix for my induction. I'm so fed up 🥴 all signs are showing i should be popping any time, but nothing is happening- WHY 😕

Karolina, the waiting game is SO HARD! Your experience with sweeping is fairly common. A couple of things I usually recommend to my clients is siting on a birth ball and doing hip circles a few times a day and spending some time relaxing, maybe in a tub, and visualizing labor beginning. There is no sure why to start labor, but those can be helpful and aren't as painful as a sweep. Hang in there!

@@birthtoolbox thank you :) birth ball has been mine main place to sit past 6 weeks haha (doing circles, 8th and all that) i do random squating during day, go for walks, have naps, get massages and foot rubs from hubby past weeks xD I just think the little one is too comfortable in there (unlike me 🥵🥴) I know it's very soon, now having a definite date 📅 just hope all goes well... never would I think I'll be pregnant 10 days past my due date ha!.. BTW love the spinning wheel videos x

It sounds like you are doing all the things!!! I went 11 days past with my 4th baby and each day felt like an eternity. Sending labor thoughts to you!! I’m 37 weeks. I just got my mucus plug and a little blood was on the toilet paper, but the mucus plug was white. Does this means I’m going into labor soon?

38 weeks and 5 days. Lost my mucus plug 3 days ago it had bloody show. That night I started getting mild irregular contractions that were 7-30min apart. Now the contractions are more spaced out, 15-40min apart but a bit stronger. I’m so confused. I thought I was in early labor🤔.

@Alice Turner is it normal or is it a concern to go and ring a doctor because it's my first pregnancy and I've never had a baby before I'm due this Monday as I've only got three days left I still have pink discharge this morning been happening since last night so started crying because others when they bleed it's a concern some have healthier babies others get bad results as i just wanted to make sure that's all the baby's still moving but I get that along with back and leg pain so wanted to be on the safe side.

NO, not at all. Some people go into labor and never experience either.

Just had the bloody show at 30 weeks pregnant. Calling my OB in the morning! I need baby to stay in longer.

I am over due I am 41 weeks and lost my mucus plug with bloody show red and pinky went to the hospital and they said me the baby is okay and sent me home to go tomorrow for an examination. Do you think I will go into labor before I reach 42 weeks or do you recommend me to say them to get me inducted or anything else, because it is now a full month that I have contractions but not for giving birth and I've lost all my patience 😔😔? I recommend having patience and asking your care provider about all of your options. It sounds like your body is getting close!

I had my bloody show (Tuesday will be) 2 weeks for a couple of days still haven't delivered yet. My due date is on the 16th of this month

I started to lose my mucus plug last week on Wednesday, and today I think I had the bloody show 🤔 not a lot of mucus but I a little bit and it was def pink/red. Definitely freaked me out, because I’m not even 36 weeks yet, but I’m staying calm. I haven’t had any other spotting or pink when I wipe since.

I’ll be 33 weeks with my 6th and final baby tomorrow (I have had only one full term and my last two were born at exactly 33 weeks where I will be tomorrow!) I have never lost a large piece of any of my previous plugs. I did see more of a mucus piece. This morning I wiped after peeing and I had a toilet paper full of blood! I waiting a few minutes to see if it’s a continuous thing and advise my doctor from there…. No contractions, so I guess we will see.

You can't predict the timing with bloody show! Could be hours, days or week before labor starts.

Lost my mucus plug and saw bloody show in the loo at about 20 weeks, also saw water leak, I went to the hospital and prayed to the God of Israel all the way there, the hospital sent me home... I've had strong braxton hicks ever since then and she often feels very low however she is still in there and I'm now 28 weeks 🥳 God is good ❤

I am 39 weeks and 4 days. Took a long walk this morning. When I got done and went to the bathroom, I noticed some lightish brown mucus when I wiped-almost like what I would see at the very end of my period. Scared me but then I realized it was probably the bloody show.

38 weeks had a membrane sweep yesterday last night had cramps had sex and late night I had bleeding and at one point I had a bloody show now feel contractions 6-7-8 mins apart and diarrhea 😕

because I'm overdue (40w+ 4) I have had one membrane sweep last saturday & it hurt like hell 😟😭 on day 1 of the sweeping I had what it looked like a bloody show and contractions that looked like going into labor, on day 2 , contractions have almost stopped (very light, very few) as well as the discharges. on day 3 , which is today, i hv brownish discharge. & that's it! doctor at the maternity clinic said to wait until wednesday, if nothing happens , they will induce me ( how ? i dont know!) now I'm afraid of any complications, of things I don't know, & wondering what could happen if nothing would start 😣

Your experience with the membrane sweep is pretty common. I am sorry to hear that it was painful and that it didn't start labor. I hope labor begins on it's own for you soon! In the meantime, I suggest practicing your breathing and relaxation techniques. Those are always good to have ready to go when labor starts.

If it’s light spotting then likely normal, but always good to ask your care provider too.

You can do it! Just think of all of the other women who have given birth before. Nice slow breaths to stay calm and remember that you and baby are working together.

I had my membranes sweep yesterday I was 39+6 and the whole day I noticed “bloody show” but I feel normal well I do feel baby girl more lower I just hope to go into labor before my next appointment

It is different for everyone. Sometimes hours and sometimes days. The best thing to do is to rest and drink water until contractions start.

@@birthtoolbox everything went well We drive to the hospital around 12:30midnight,and I’m only 5cm Then around 0130 the midwife check again and I’m in 7cm but I’m bleeding a lot and my cervix is gone,so she decided to broke my water,she broke it at 01:58 then right after the baby follow so it’s not so long time.

I had sex this morn at 36 week 6 days... which led to bleeding like period for about 8-10 min .. and then it stopped ... what is it ?
