This entire album is fire. 'And When I Die' next please. I`ve actually requested that this song be played at the gathering following my death. No joke.

I find the line 'I swear there ain`t no heaven but I pray there ain`t no hell' is absolutely classic.

Laura Nyro had great way with turning a phrase, she was dating the bass player and played several songs of David, he says he just "had to record And When I Die"
BS&Ts' rendition of "God Bless The Child" is just incredible!

Absolutely, and throw in a little Go Down Gambling with it!!!
Blood, Sweat & Tears is a jazz-rock music group founded in 1967. They are noted for their combination of brass & rock band instrumentation. Especially love their stuff when David Clayton-Thomas joined as their lead singer. They have had a lot of great songs such as "You've Made Me So Very Happy", "And When I Die", "Hi-De-Ho" "Lucretia MacEvil", "I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know", "Go Down Gamblin'", "Lisa Listen To Me" etc.

You forgot to mention that Al Kooper was an original member and lead vocalist and they were more bluesy, jazzy, and less poppy than when David Clayton Thomas took to commanding h th e lead vocals. They dominated the pop scene for 2 or 3 years in the early 1970’s!

I got to work with David Clayton Thomas on a summer tour in 2003! He was still an amazing vocalist and the whole touring band was fire! Peace
“God Bless the Child” is a must by Blood Sweat and Tears

Agreed!
"I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know" by BS&T is one of my all time favorites. It was very popular with the lowrider crowd. I would hear it in the park where they were cruising on Saturday afternoons. I love that song!
Next, "You Made Me So Very Happy", then "And When I Die", "Hi-De-Ho" and "Lucrecia MacEvil". Thanks Biz!
Here we have BS&T giving the band Chicago a run for its money! Love this arrangement cuz it's so soulful and jazzy! ❤
This song got lots of radio play back in the day. There was nothing else like it on pop radio.

The single version had a guitar solo instead of the trumpet solo and edited out most of the "O Du Lieber Augustin" at the end.

Yeah, no. Chicago. Steely Dan. Jethro Tull.
B, S & T has some BANGERS! Super underrated band
Oh, my, goodness....they did a muppet version of this on Sesame Street in the late 60's. Can't unsee that.

Wow, I just dropped that comment then saw yours! The silhouette of the spinning wheel...the cowbell. "Needs more cowbell". Guaranteed you get that 😅
"Man, fhat wasn't too good" Oh, classic ending line!
I remember when my oldest sister bought this album when it first came out. She's 12 yrs older than I. I used to beg her to play it. I was blown away by the horns, mostly the trombone. Great jam, still to this day!!
This song, Up Up And Away (In My Beautiful Ballooon), Magic Carpet Ride, and Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head, were the earliest radio songs I remember, my favorites from my first memories.
I agree with boosuden. "God Bless the Child " is fantastic! "And When I die" (was that a Laura Nyro Song, anybody?) On the rowdy side try "Go Down Gamblin'" & "Lucretia McEvil" . 1969 for this album..maybe 10 years before its time! There was a clarinet hidden among the flutes!
David Clayton-Thomas... one of the greatest baritone voices of all time.
Album recorded in late '68. It won 1969 Grammy album of the year, beating outing the Beatles.
LOVE this song! One of the songs to be played at my Funeral is Blood Sweat and Tears’ “You’ve Made Me So Very Happy” ❤ With spinning wheel, when my parents played this song as a child, it made me think of a carousel; my adult mind feels the instrumentation and groove of this phenomenal song.
Biz , this is strikin some pure Gold . Next up suggestion : 1. Go Down Gamblin. 2. Smiling Phases. 3. Blues Part 2 4. Lucretia Mac Evil * All Banger Life Altering Masterpieces .
The horn flourishes to kick the song off, accented by some choice cowbell, quickly grabs the ear for the funky verses to follow. Then to fill those middle bars with some straight up jazz. Nice! The flutes evoke carnival attractions filled with spinning wheels. This dropped when I was a little kid and I remember hearing it on the radio my parents listened to. Blood, Sweat & Tears played at the local fair a few times back then too, iirc.
David Clayton Thomas was one of the most amazing vocalist of the 70s
Great band, great song!
This is good stuff, as is Earth, Wind & Fire, as is Chicago. But my favorite rock banger with a horn section is by The Ides Of March, and it's called VEHICLE. You gotta hit that one, Biz!
I've loved this group since I was a young teen in the 1960s. Please do one of their lesser known songs, Lucretia MacEvil! I think you'd LOVE it. As others have suggested, And When I Die as well as their cover of God Bless the Child are impressive.
The end music was the merry go round music
Just one more vote for "And when I die" to be the next BS&T song.
BST and Terry Kath Chicago were my favorites. Anything from the BST catalog is great. Keepit coming.
The great Lew Soloff on that trumpet solo! RIP Lew!
BLOOD SWEAT AND TEARS - GOD BLESS THE CHILD
Great tune here! Glad you chose it! LOTS good from them.
Hard to believe this song is 55!
Al Cooper was a founding member of BST and he was Lynyrd Skynyrd's producer on their first 3 albums.

Year Of The Cat Al Cooper? Seriously? Never knew.
B,S&T is an American jazz rock band founded in New York City in 1967 and they are renowned for combining unique brass instruments with rock instruments. The group went through several band members, but their sound encompassed a wide range of musical styles, they infused elements of rock, pop, R&B, soul with a heavy dose of big band jazz. This gave the band a very unique sound and it certainly set them apart from the rest of the bands in this time period. (And I might add that was hard to do) The group's self-titled debut album spent seven weeks on top of the US charts in 1969 and won the Grammy Award for Best Album of the Year in 1970. The song you just heard was a track on that album. I think the whole album is wonderful. Here's another song from the same album, if interested. "Blood, Sweat & Tears - And When I Die/You Made Me So Very Happy - LIVE 1970 [Rity Archive]" (by the channel: Reelin' In The Years66) because the sound quality is pretty decent. I love David Clayton-Thomas's vocals and he was a great front man. But Al Kooper was an incredible singer and keyboardist. He composed several of B, S&T's songs. However, he ended up leaving the band because the bands managers wanted to move him into exclusively playing the keyboard and composing duties and hiring a stronger vocalist for the group. Al Kooper went on to become a record producer for Columbia Records. But here's one of his best songs (IMO) "Al Kooper - I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know (Live)" (this is a live album) Boy this took me down memory lane, thanks so much for sharing, Biz

Al Kooper was great talent - but his time with BS&T was limited and so was their success when he was with them. The band took off when they canned Kooper and brought in David Clayton-Thomas.
Nice song tho You made me so Very Happy is my favorite and probably their biggest hit.Dave C. Thomas is a great singer. Saw them in 1970 great concert also only a few bucks for a good seat.🙂
Great song Biz. Ure the best bro.
My husband's high school band played this at one of their performances.
The instruments at the end sound like "Recorders"... a very basic woodwind instrument, typically used by young students as an introduction to music.
Just saw these guys live a couple months ago. I’ve been to bigger concerts but the energy these guys put out was incredible. Their second album which this song is off of is an absolute masterpiece. They played almost every song off this album.
Feel in love with these guys in the early 70's! Thanks for the memory!
I'm Canadian, David Clayton Thomas was good, but my favourite LP was the 1st with Al Cooper as the lead singer.
The painted pony on the spinning wheel is reference to the carousel at a fair. That is why the ending has that circus music notes in the ending. The sound is Spinning Wheel.
This is a great band. Yeah, that was flute you heard at the end. I learned somewhere along the way that the fingering for a sax and a flute are the same, so that would have been their sax guy on the flute, I'd think. Not all sax players can play flute, I don't think, just because the blowing needed to make a note, which I think is called the "attack", is so different between the 2 instruments. The suggestion dagmars made is a great list to react to.
Recorded 1968 , released 1969. A favorite of mine thanks Biz
First real rock concert I went to in 1969 .This album was album of the year and a great year it was. A couple months later I saw Credence great times.
Like Fleetwood Mac with Peter Green. Blood Sweat and Tears started out with Al Kooper. Very Heavy.
GOD BLESS THE CHILD
The entire album is Dope!!! "God Bless The Child" is another dynamic song of Blood Sweat & Tears!!!!
I had to return to listen again tonight. What a tremendous song (and enduring). In the most flattering sense possible, much of BST’s music reminds me of the children’s game Whack-A-Mole. As soon as one vanishes you know another is going to stick its head up - but you have no idea where or what they will look (sound) like. Any song randomly chosen fromtheir Greatest Hits will be a good song. “And WhenI Die” is one I especially like. fheough severl tempo changes, it has some clever lines, some humor, and some serious things to think about. For tonight, Biz, I am adding your review/reaction for BST-Spinning Wheel to my Exceptional Music Reaction Videos Folder. Thank you., Biz.
( YOU'VE MADE ME SO VERY HAPPY ) 😊ANOTHER HUGE HIT OF THEIRS BIZ ☝
Feeling old now 😂🔥🔥🔥
The wonderful music that I grew up with and saw live a few times.
My memorial service will play..."And When I Die".. and when I'm gone There'll be one more child in this world to carry on...carry on
Great song! Takes me back to the 70s!!!! Too hip!
Go down gambling is one of my favorite BS&T tunes. It's a jam!
You Make Me So Very Happy is also a great one by BST

My very favorite of their songs
Try Blood Sweat and Tears first album with Founding member Al Kooper on lead vocals.
"What goes up must come down........spinning wheels got to go 'round......catch a painted long on the spinning wheel ride. Talking about a Merri-Go- Round, and the music at the end with the flute and the up and down light musical pattern is the type of music heard while on the ride. Some of the painted ponies go and down and some don't move, but they all spin around on a big wheel.
Close-song was from 1969-lot of hits-check out the tracks mentioned below as well as a song called The Battle-cool song that's about a medieval battle with the harpsichord as its main instrument and of course the horns.
🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦 Really like to see your reaction to Tedeschi Trucks band Live from " E TOWN " Song is 🎵 Midnight in Harlem 🎵 You gonna love this one too Keep the good work Biz 👏 ✌️ 👍🏻
Great group... Great song...
This song was so ahead of its time
Love your reviews. It's like a recap of my youth. 😅
Billie Holiday's tune "God Bless the Child".
This band was created to exploit the newly-discovered market for rock & roll bands with horns first exposed by Chicago, who were still playing clubs at the time. B,S, & T then rushed into the studio to be the first to get an album out, which they did, and did very well, making a very good record under what had to be stressful circumstances. Blood, Sweat, and Tears was a good band, but if I’m choosing I prefer Chicago: they had the original idea and I prefer Chicago’s music. When I was very young I heard a lot of Blood, Sweat, and Tears on the radio, this song especially.
A great song from a great band. I love their music! 🎺🎷🎸🎶🎶🎶👍
Oh my had the 45 bring me back to my child hood
I'm rocking out with you again thanks for bringing back the memories 🫶

Love these guys!
Just a fantastic choice! Keep it up!!
The spinning wheel of life.
Great reaction!
Deep dive worthy...😎😎
Been a BST fan for many years, it’s hard to pick a favourite
Just for fun, watch the Sesame Street Muppet version of this song.
You might want to try some songs when Al Kooper was the front man with I can’t Quit Her and ILove You Mire Than You’ll Ever Know!
Late 60s dude. Yup, experimental and wonderful.
Biz, you gotta react to “And When I Die” from Blood Sweat and Tears next. Please
Would love to see In your eyes - peter Gabriel
HORNS BABY!
Another short(radio) version! Bummer. 😢 Still a cool tune by a great band. Al Kooper, organist on Dylan's 'Like a Rolling Stone', was a founding member, quit after first album. Toronto's David Clayton Thomas arrived on vocals and became essentially the voice of classic B,S&T. See 'Lucretia McEvil', 'God Bless the Child', 'And When I Die', 'Go Down Gamblin' '. 😊🤙🏼🎺🎷🥁🎸🎵🎶❤️✨️🕊
