Blood Brain Barrier

In this video, Dr Mike explains the 3 main layers of the blood brain barrier (and its accessory structures), these include;
- Endothelia with tight junctions
- Basement membrane (basal lamina) with pericytes and macrophages
- Astrocytes with their polarised feet

    hey great video i have a quick query. whats the difference between the blood brain barrier and the cerebrospinal fluid barrier? do they have the same function? I thought the the CSF and intersitial fluid were the same

    very informative thank you. so the macrophages must be special ones that don't release cytokines? If the pericytes are sensors that contract to keep stuff out; does that mean that if my blood is full of "not good stuff" they will contract and allow less of everything (including oxygen) to the neurons? or are they more selective than that? Is that why "huffing paint" gets you high?

    Is it the pericytes that perform phagocytosis, or is it both the pericyte AND macrophages?

    Some said they had the cv test up the nose. The pain went down there spine and in the eyes area . There still in pain.

    You did excellent in explaining this. But I have to say your drawing of the neuron looks like a penis. No foul Dr. Mike, it was quite funny, but maybe draw it different. (You just draw more strands at the synapse)
