Actually, the bass track in this video sucks compared to the original (go listen to the original on youtube) . It's being carried by the keyboards more than the bass. Debra Harry and Chris Stein we're in a dispute with original bass player Nigel Harrison and she would not let Harrison perform , so she got some session bassist to jump in with only one brief rehearsal before the show,

I would say Heart #1 Joan Jett #2 after that , it's debatable of what you mean female "led" ? writing ? singing ? playing ? Linda Ronstadt, Fleetwood Mac, Pat Benatar, Jefferson Airplane... Blondie is in the mix somewhere , I rank The Bangles higher, they wrote great original songs themselves and played their own instruments

Blondie had a "clue" what innovative music really was and broke down barriers for women and race in general. She absolutely was the first white woman to incorporate Rap to a funk backbeat while still encapsulating a rock masterpiece. Not an easy feat by any means!

@@superdave452 Those opening notes, though... OOF! She finds the melody soon enough. You could tell by her leading into it with a few early notes that she wasn't confident on where she needed to go... I'm wondering if they didn't get to practice this performance (or practice it enough). It's only been what, 40 years, since she's been regularly performing this live? Despite my comments I'm not knocking her. You're right that for her age this is amazing. Still... something didn't come together right for her to be able to confidently hit those first notes. Once she's on, she's on, though. She even did a great job of both updating and throwing back on the styles of the rap portion... cool and deep starting out, then high and loud as she gets into it... honestly I was most impressed with that! The band's tight, though... excellent arrangement (whether pre-planned or just great ad-libs).

when I was 13 yrs old, Im in NYC visiting my Uncle...my folks drove us up from DC, where Im born and raised. My Uncle's daughter and I are VERY close...cousins, but more like little brother and big sister. She worked in a high end boutique on Madison at that time. So, we find parking...and we're all walking to the store to surprise her, when out of NOWHERE, I spot Debbie Harry dressed in yellow, red and black..with that platinum blonde hair, walking across Madison in the middle of traffic, jay-walking like a motherfucker. She didnt even trot or walk fast...she was SLOWLY walking across Madison Ave. And she LITERALLY stopped traffic..there were guys sticking their heads out of their cars to scream "Debbie!!..sweetie, will you marry me?!". Just as she's about to step up on the sidwalk, she says out loud to me and my folks, "Oh, God...this city is gonna kill a girl, I tell ya". She smiled at me and my parents..and kinda giggled when she did it. I will NEVER forget that. I knew who she was, but my parents didnt. And as I tried to tell them she was the lead singer for Blondie, they could've cared less. In hindsight I was too starstruck to ask for an autograph. I just stood there in shock, that she actually spoke to us.

God, Harry’s singing is awful and agonizing....she can’t “sing” two words together! She never had a strong voice, and was never in any sense a natural singer....she was good at forming an image and using her beauty to advantage, but she wouldn’t come close to those I consider real singers. I had to stop listening.

She was always more punk if anything as a singer and punk doesn't require vocal gymnastics. Her punk attitude of indifference which came across on studio recordings and on stage and her undeniable stage presence is what made her such an icon. You must be from this old era of thinking any women who are even remotely attractive can't have any talent therefore must have to rely upon their sexuality.
