I rescued a born blind yorkie when he was 3 months old. The breeders were going to put him down bc they couldn't sell him. . He is now 11 yrs old and nobody can even tell he is blind if I don't tell them. He knows where everything inside and out is located. I also have a rescued Lhasa and he has 1 eye and is going blind in the 1 eye he has left. It has been much harder on him since he was sighted to begin with. My boys 1 Sinatra and 2 Chewy are my heart, they use the doggie door I just had installed after Christmas like it's been here their whole life. Disabled doesn't always mean unable !! G Hunter - You are right! Disabled does not always mean unable. Love your phrase. May "borrow" term but will give you credit for "coining the term" For some reason rescuing the "challenged" critters always so much more rewarding. Bless you (& yours). Best regards to all out there!

Like you, I have a blind dog, and a one-eyed dog that’s losing her sight in the remaining eye. They are a team, and the sighted dogs help them out all the time! I can even walk them off-leash as long as I’m snapping my fingers, & people don’t even realize they’re blind! 😂

I couldn't find a therapist so I go to The Dodo for a mood boost.

I lost my bulldog just before Christmas last year. I think I would give the last 10 years of my life to have one more day with her. I have never had a dog that stole my heart like my Daisy did. I miss her so much. That is a very lucky puppy to have found the home he got.

I lost my dog 2 months ago ( she was only 11 months, she died exactly a month before her 1 year birthday). We booked another puppy to be her friend but she died before the puppy arrived. The puppy is now thriving but I still miss my angel girl, I cry almost every day. So I know how you feel.

French Fry I thought Martin was the dog's name before he was adopted, and I also didn't make the connection with Martin Van Buren before reading Bryce Solomon's comment, or tee, hee, best president ever Martin Sheen 😅

Martin is a beautiful pup, but this family is truly what every family should be. Such kind hearted and loving people. Kudos to you Jessica and Ryan, and baby Lincoln could not have had any better parents / role models.

Great story! When my dog went completely blind due to SARDS, we adapted with the help of a product called Halos For Paws, a harness she wore that has a bumper around it. It allowed her to walk around with confidence and avoid getting hurt. ❤️

I adopted a deaf Australian Koolie pup six years ago (deaf due to bad breeding practices) and he has been nothing but joy. I encourage everyone to consider adopting a disabled or senior pet. They have no limits and they give unconditional love. I love stories like this.

How sad is to know that for some people having a blind puppy is a issue😔😔 Where is written or who says that everything has to be perfect or fit certain standards???...... Luckily there are another kind of people that thinks that a dog with a disability deserves the same amount of love as anyone else!!! It's less that and more that some people aren't capable of giving a special needs animal what they require. I do rescues but I'm single with full time work so there isn't anyone else to help shoulder the load, and someone like this little fella needs a better situation than what I can provide.

Yes you can. My blind rescue Pomeranian would wander into a corner of the house and not know how to get out. She'd bump her head into furniture and walls. But she was a happy little girl until the day she died...at 19-1/2 years old.

@@AFAskygoddess I think they were referring to the actual word, blind. Sometimes the dog would be labeled blind but can still see light and dark or shadows, and sometimes, like in your case, the dog is completely blind. It's the same thing in humans, someone could be blind, but have just enough vision to tell if it's day or night. Martin is so confident, I could easily believe he has enough vision to see shadows, but he's also a bully and they are generally so stubborn he could also be stone blind and just not notice when he bumps into something. I'm so sorry for your loss, it's always super hard to lose a companion, especially one you've had for two decades.

Back in 2005 we rescued a 5 yr old female Shih Tzu from a puppy mill. She was in bad shape but my amazing vet pulled her thru. Five yrs after we had her she got diabetes which cause her to eventually go blind. We were able to have her 2 1/2 more yrs and she was such a joy in our lives. Monsoon was her name and I gave her the middle name Louise. She's right on my night stand cremated so she's the 1st thing I see when I wake up and last thing before I go to bed🥰

I was BLESSED with a Blind BEAGLE who was dumped in my driveway. Yes he bumped into things but he lived a Wonderful life with my family. Nothing stopped him from enjoying every day and for the most part I hardly ever looked at him as being blind. This Sweet little puppy just got the perfect family. Thank You to ALL the Good Humans who got him where he is meant to be.

You could only really know your blind if you once could see, then went blind. Otherwise whatever life is for the individual, is just what it is, not bad nor good, it just simply is. Surely we all know this. I had a cat that went blind, much different than bieng born blind.

Oh I love this family, Martin has truly scored a wonderful loving family and who could ask for more. He's blind but nothing stops him. Kennedy will teach him the ropes cause Franklin is obviously the chill pupper out of them so one will teach Martin to play and the other will teach him to chill. Gotta love that!! Plus he has a beautiful sista who he will grow up with. 🙏🏽💜
