I'm so happy that you found this masterpiece and responded to it. The original of this anime is a very old manga that was serialized from 1985 to 1994 in Japan. I'm Japanese, but I didn't know this story until I watched the anime. After watching the anime, I was so moved that I bought all the manga. It's a sensitive, sad and beautiful story of boys. Enjoy!

Don't forget also that Ash is 17, he's still a minor and still being sexually victimized and targeted, despite him being a little bigger now then in the videos.

A curious thing to note is that the titles of the episodes are names of books that are related to the episode's plot or the series in it's entirety - for explame, "A perfect day for bananfish" is a story about a soldier after WW2 and how he can't go back to his innocent life despite the war ending, he has changed (you can link this to Ash). I recommend looking up analysis of it after the show is over

Fun fact: BF was written from 1985 -1994 (and it was published as SHOUJO, ha, not shounen or BL) and they kept the aesthetic of the manga while updating the story a bit to modern times (Max and Ash's brother were originally Vietnam war veterans). So the fashion is often very 80s - Shorter's purple mohawk is so fun. It's incredibly dark and violent at times. The mangaka was inspired somewhat by the movie Midnight Cowboy.

This series starting during Pride Month is perfect. 🏳‍🌈🏳‍🌈Honestly I remember watching it as it came out and it is a wild ride start to finish. The characters definitely have a glow-up from their more 80s looks in the manga. Super excited for this one alongside the DR3 reactions
