    Is blending necessary? My Shop is installing new bumper, driver's side fender, possibly hood, and also the driver door is a little scratched (probably just clear coat damage) I'm just really skeptical of them sanding down my door or blending onto my factory paint... Any recommendations on what I should do? My car is 13' GTI paint code LB9A

    Tri-layers are the most difficult to color match and blend. The drop coat is the make or break here but a good painter makes it look easy.

    The Gunman This was Glasurit 90 line, most colors are 2 1/2 coats over most undercoat values, but white over black would take quite a bit more. If this were RM Onyx production (solvent) it just might cover in 2 1/2-3 coats, solid colors cover really well in that line.

    Thanks for the reply Jim, here in Australia we still mainly use Solvent and everyone tells me that waterbase covers in 1+1/2 coats so it sounded weird. I get full coverage in 3 from most solvent ranges 55 Glasurit, Standox Solvent, Dupont and Metalux. Great channel, keep up the good work.

    The Gunman Axalta (dupont) waterborne has a 1 1/2 application for basecoat, as far as I am aware every other waterborne is at least 2 1/2 when applied over an appropriate shade of primer. Thanks, you too.

    Use a light gray or almost white. Will make your spraying easier and save on materials. Make sure to do a 50 percent overlap on each spray pattern and do 2 coats

    I know this is an old video, but in alot of blend videos no one talks about the process of how they sanded the car in preparation of a blend, where to sand 800-1000 vs 400-600 in order for base coverage vs clear blend. What was your process here?

  • @Michigunner

    @Michigunner

    3 жыл бұрын

    If your not painting for coverage(repaired area) 800 everywhere else. 400/600 your primed areas for finish sanding

    no explanation on the steps needs more details on how to do the blend what you mix in, giving model numbers won't trigger any info, rather confuses. just my 2 cents, if this was for pros and not for new guys, then it would be awesome to mention that from the get-go. thx

    Whenever a part is painted separately without being able to use the exact batch of paint that the vehicle was painted with (even then it’s possible to look dofferent) all you can do is hope it’s not a readily noticeable difference. There’s too many variables that can make a color look different. Doing spray outs like demonstrated in this video and blending is how you get an exact panel to panel color match.

    thats very common on metallic or pearlescent paints. it can all depend on how many coats of metallic/pearlescent they did or how thick they sprayed it on. it can change the color

  • @Refinishnetwork

    @Refinishnetwork

    9 жыл бұрын

    Michael DeFrancesco The wall is usually between 50-80, the pressure drops depending on the length of the hose so I regulate it at the base of the gun around 27-28 psi.

  • @Refinishnetwork

    29 psi at the inlet I am fairly certain is what my Sata rep recommended for that gun but I may be confusing it with the HVLP. I don't have much experience yet with that gun although I do have one with a 1.2. I'm sure a Sata painter will be along to tell us.

    Refinish Network Depending on what color you are painting and your set up, and The Rp .. you can run it as low as 22 and high as 26. I stick at 22, comes out nice and especially with metallics lays out nice

    your mid coat is the coat that contains the pearl. So it's your base color (first coat) then your pearl (mid-coat) and then your clear (third coat). It's called a Tri-coat
