This has turned into one of my most night time relaxing video channels. I don't do big spraying (only small, fine airbrush work) but I love watching knowledgeable craftsmen doing their thing. Great stuff - I can do a few crafty technical things like this, that look 'easy' but when other people try them, thinking there is no zen magic to it - it all goes to sheeeit. Brilliant. Thanks.

Axalta has changed that process from your past standox experience. They have made a clear base coat carrier that mixes with candy dye that makes these colors a breeze. I’ve doubled the strength as well with Axalta’s systems but by the data sheet they recommend to cut the reducer down to strengthen the color. The viscosity isn’t the same as what you use. Awesome job as usual Brian!

We recently purchased a 2003 Explorer with a pooched in corner on one of the urethane bumper covers. The paint is a beautiful factory candy red.. and its chipped at the pooch. After I pull the cover and heat the dent-in, and push it back out, I'm going to have a cluster of chips and cracks to sand out, and leave me with an area to re-color and blend in. This video is PERFECT!! Just the hints I need to move forward in confidence with the repair... which will be in the spring after it warms up.

If I was edging out that fender I would have just painted the whole thing along with a sprayout panel. This way you can check your color on the car before doing the blend. One thing that helps keep the "tails" down is mask off the replacement panels to do your mid coat and first layers of tri coat. Then pull the masking and continue the blend, that way you hopefully dont have to fight a dark edge blending out the panels. Each paint system and painter will give you a different method to do the same thing.

Just done a 3 coat red kandy on a GM. I found the groundcoat colour recommended (a dark olive green) left the shade a little light compared to original when blended, and previous base was black. I then started again using a black groundcoat. It came out pretty close to original but very slightly lighter to me (not to joe normal). Close enough. The process seemed a bit easier than this colour.

If I had a issue with ground coat blends shouwing up on tri coat, I will mix my wetbed and ground coat 1:1 and wet out the edge like you did, then apply the mid coat. Doing that weakens the color enough to not show up but strong enough to soften the edge. Greta video, jelly of the uv light for chips and the pie. 👍

Well job done! Apart from this maybe you'd like to show off and/or talk about the white colors and some peeling issues due to UV. As you know there are a lot of makes and models, especially Honda, Toyota and Hyundais suffer from white paint peeling off in large sections and showing off the grey primer underneath. Is seems like a widespread issue on modern cars. Thanks!

I love your channel. It has so many great ideas and techniques. On a slightly different topic, when dealing with rock chip repair, how do you know when your paint is set enough to begin sanding? Assuming the temp and humidity are fairly normal (72 deg F?). How long should you wait between coats? How do you tell if it’s ready? Keep up the great work!

I've tried afew and ended up just taking it down and redoing it . I know you use sealer alot. But I don't have a booth n I usually have to sand alittle imperfections. Brain I want to thank you for yall you do brother. I still rock my paint society shirt, keychain, and sticker on my truck. Any idea if you will come out with more merchandise? My sister does those things I may get her make me some shirts if you don't mind if there isn't anymore in the works. Thanks again. Happy Holidays and wish you and the Family the best brother.
