Being a former Maya instructor, I can tell you that Blender has a much more robust modelling set of tools over Maya. Blender with the right set of addons however, totally draws circles around Maya it that regard.

@@KB-kp2oz zbrush destroys blender? How ? Sculpting I guess.. but for everything else is the other way around. I’m kind of sick of this hate people have when it comes to software. They are just tools. But the fact is that Blender is progressing a lot faster than the rest and is winning people over, whether people like it or not. I personally use Zbrush, Houdini and Blender for different reasons

There is no comparison to be made between the 2 They are complementary If the goal is to make a game, you have to model and create the skeletons for the animations in Blender, then transfer everything to UE For animations, Blender is 'easier', but UE more complete

I was going to mention this too, since Unreal can't create very specific detailed assets, it has to work with and gather those separate things from blender or Maya etc. Unreal ideally makes every part like that work together logically. Do this animation when I press A to jump, or load this asset I made from Blender as I start the next level etc. But with the Rendering and scene layout I think there is a comparison to be had as shown in the video in terms of making content rather than just 1. Games or 2. 3D modeling or Animation

They're generally more complementary to each other rather than competitive. At this point I kind of wonder how come Blender and UE don't get integrated, it's like Blender Game Engine, but if UE could have a fully functioning Blender inside it you could do everything in one program. Obviously it's no small task, but considering Blender is open-source, I don't see why they couldn't make it happen.

Sadge you didn't talk about comparion to Unreal Path Tracing rendering. Because Lumen while is great at real time game rendering it is still lacks at details, specifically at reflections, highlights and some other stuff. So you need to switch to path tracing in Unreal Engine if you want to make good quality rendering in that areas. And that where we can compare Unreal Path Tracing to Blender's Cycles. What I find mostly underrated is the ability to work with huge scenes inside Unreal Engine even WITHOUT Nanite (Nanite is actually pretty heavy, so your memory will tank), while Blender with huge city, for example, will be slow as hell to navigate. This is basically why I actually kinda strugle to choose where I want to layout and render my huge scenes.

Dude 743 subs. oh weit 744 Subs. You have a niche here. I suggest you demonstrate similar projects in Blender vs UE5. And how to create a workflow between both of them. I am completely new to the game. I started using UE5 to learn how game developement works. Then i quickly realise the creativity is the design. the functions in the game are not soooo crazy to accomplish. I had no idea about anything. Coding = Magic. so i wanted to do my first small game like i dont know even what its going to be. Just a simple game loop i dont know just getting started. but i want that it looks like my creation. I dont want to drop just some assets and lets go. i want to create them.

  • @LehushasProduction
    @LehushasProduction8 ай бұрын

Hey! Not sure that anyone will see this... BUT I think UE5 is good, starting from small projects to very huge projects and its max rendering capabilities are 8k (maybe 12 or 16 k but it's very hard, and big scenes won't render in such resolutions). The main problem here would be Vram. UE5 doesn't accept 2 GPUs, so you are blocked with 1 GPU with 24 GB of Vram max... Sure you can buy a6000, but from what I heard it's much slower (x2) than 4090. So it's a big problem. Blender on the other side is awesome for still images or very small projects and Ultra huge ones. When I'm saying about huge ones I'm saying about renders at least 8k+, more like 12k+ with enormous scenes and animations, and using render farms to make videos. No rendering a car with HDRi, more about rendering thousands of spaceships destructing and interacting with physics simultaneously. So the decision is up to you what to choose, but if you aren't expecting to render smth in 12k in the next years - choose UE5. You will save hundreds of hours for rendering. Really. For example, now I can render the scene with more than 1 000 000 000 polygons in 8k and 60 fps in 1 hour... You can check my channel if not believe me. Also the speed of creating environments and everything is xxxx faster than in Blender. Mainly because you have a ton of assets in 1 project and could use them all anytime (for example I have now 600+ Gb project files and typing "chair" gives me a choice from 200 meshes xd).

The comparison between these two doesn't really make much sense. because blender is a 3d package specifically focused on art, films etc and unreal is a game engine. so the tools and rendering techniques are going to differ by a huge margin, espacially unreal engine because it uses Real Time rendering techniques. however using both as combo makes more sense. like using blender for modeling & animation then sending it to Unreal for materials, VFX and Rendering sequences

yepp i was not aware of that, never tried UE - but they are used for different reasons. UE is a cool and easy Worldbuildingsystem, everything is easy to arrange and to swap - it is very performant and has this insane Raytrace-like-Lumen-System that just looks awesomen and runs in realtime. But if you want to creat stuff from the very scratch instead of using already existing stuff from libaries....well Blender is the tool to create them. Modeling, rigging, animating, texturing and unwraping for the first time - setting this all up - this is what blender is for. You can of course do stuff in Blender aswell what UE is able to - but its a bit more harder to learn/execute and less performant......... To they are champs in their own league - and belong together as a team - no foes, but friends and teamplayers.

Blender is clearly a winner in almost every aspect except its realtime renderer EEVEE. LUMEN is super powerful against EEVEE. At what cost? If you got a powerful gpu. For 3D artists, the only major advantage against blender is the realtime render in Lumen. However, most of 3d artists transport their scene from blender to unreal just for this reltime rendering. Besides these UE5 can handle 100X more geometry load than blender but thats not a huge deal for this case. I am using blender for almost 4 years and UE5 for almost 3 years. Both are superv engines and close to my workflow. Lets see if this video is valid for next few months as blender had introduced EEVEE NEXT. And it seems promising against LUMEN. Which might change the current workflow for realtime rendering.

Comparing any 2D/3D editor/design software to a game engine is like comparing apples to oranges. A game engine can be 100,000 times more complex than Blender, Maya, or even Houdini.

Unreal modeling suck. It's good for blocking out or on the site simple modeling of architecture for a level. It saves time from going into Blender or Max just to make some stairs or walls unless you want fancy Roman columns then you would have to go back into your modeling program.

They both do different Shit and have different purposes. have you ever seen a game have a blender splash screen cuz it was made in blender? NO. Why? they blender is not a game engine. Come on man

Some of your points are way to superficial. For example you can't compare cycles and lumen in a general way, apart from the speed and 'quality' you have to talk about volumetrics(VDBs), shading, texturing, tessellation, point cloud performance, transmission, path tracing... You simply can't render a water sim or a smoke sim the way you can in blender. Also, learning curve on what? In VFX, archviz, FX, animation, rigging, modeling, lighting... You Your comparison is so ambiguous that you can't apply it to any profession. I think you should focus more and be more specific on what are you comparing, like rendering and lighting, archviz or product rendering. Topics on where you really have an interesting and usable comparison.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm always looking to improve my videos. I didn't cover all of that for a couple of reasons. Firstly I didn't want the video to be excessively long. This video is meant to give beginners to 3D a general idea of each program and to try not to overwhelm them with to many details. Also, I want my videos to be as close to 100% accurate as I can get. I myself am not an expert on render engines and I simply don't have enough time to research those area in enough detail to know that what I would be saying is accurate. So, instead of giving false, or uncredible, information, I chose to give none at all. Hopefully this helped answer you question as to why the comparison is so broad!

unreal by miles, imo unreal is way better looking and beginner friendly. I literally modeled by first open world on the first day of using it. Whilst on the other hand, my the first day i used blender i couldn't even operate cause of the old a$$ looking UI. Both programs are amazing after learning but unreal is just on another level when it comes to developing, making cinematics and even just simple environments.

I'm in the minority who found Unreal Engine easier to work with than Blender. I started in Blender, but since I don't create my own assets I can use Unreal Engine to basically do the same thing as I was doing in Blender. Blender effectively is easy to learn the basics of, but once you say "okay I want to make my work stand out and move past this basic point."? Yea that's when Unreal Engine destroys Blender in my opinion. Because in Blender I struggled with comprehension of information, where as in Unreal Engine I struggled with finding the answers, but once I did I could always comprehend everything just fine. And that is a much better boat to be in.

I think you mean figuratively. The only way to literally compare apples and oranges is using apples and oranges. If you’re trying to use analogies you’re typically speaking figuratively, hence why people say “it was a figure of speech.” Other than the hyperbolic idea that there can be only one, as he presents in the intro, I think the video made a lot of sense in terms of helping people that aren’t familiar with each software to understand some of the pros and cons of spending more time learning one vs. the other. As I think you were getting at, though, using Blender to prepare assets for Unreal often makes more sense than creating everything from scratch in Unreal, so they definitely compliment each other. In other words, I don’t disagree with your overall sentiment - just the specifics.

What a mediocre discussion just to work as clickbait for beginners. Blender is an incredible tool, but the internet is full of shallow content that only blinds people into using just one program. And unfortunately, the vast majority of these videos are made by Blender users. This video was the last straw since both software have completely different purposes. TL;DR: Learn both and earn money with both. They are different enough not to hinder each other's learning.

I appreciate your constructive criticism. Blender is an incredible tool, and you're also right about me being primarily a blender user, yet I made this video to try and show both the similarities and compare the areas that overlap, but also to show the differences in each of these two programs. They are, at least in my opinion, the two best free 3d software, so my goal in the creation of this video was to help people with limited time decide which one is worth their attention. I regularly use both of these two programs, and I appreciate your opinion
