When I first saw blender I thought it was going to be at least $600 but then I saw it was free and now I am very good at it. It is truly an impressive piece of software

Well, you will need, not because Blender is difficult, nor hard to apply effects. But it is really very very unlike anything else. And it is really fantastic, and worth to learn. Good luck.

I've made a few things so far with the help of tutorials, and I'm currently working on making a Master Sword from the Legend of Zelda by myself. So far, my favorite thing about working with 3D is how after you've made the individual parts of an object, you drag them all together. It's like you're building one of those toy car models!

Jordan Franklin Very similar to unity? I'd say no to that
Having used 3DS Max, Maya, Softimage, and a slew of others I can honestly say Blender is my favorite by far since 2.5 when they improved the interface. There is really nothing in 3D graphics that Blender can't do; modelling, sculpting, animation, simulation, compositing, even unbiased rendering, it's all there and free as in freedom. This is the greatest open source success story ever, in my opinion.
10 years since I begun my Blender journey and still so much more to learn.
I'm speechless, the power of the mighty Blender in the right hands created this amazing artpieces.
And I'm just here with my cube...

It's really impressive to see how much the community and Blender has grown over the past few years. Great compilation of work!
Wow! Blender has come a long way from the early days as I remember. Most impressive. Many Thanks to the Blender Developers and Team members for creating a great application for the common man to use. Blender is at the forefront of invention and creativity. Thank you again for allowing us to tag along for the ride, I can't wait to see what great things Blender has in store for us! Go Blender! Scott.
Blender is still my favorite software in the world. I don't do 3D graphics anymore but these days I use Blender for my 3D printing instead of another CAD program. It works great for me.

Do you have any suggestions for learning this program books, tutorials etc? I would like to use it for 3D printing as well. Im just getting started. So I was just wondering what forms and books might be of good use?
@LordBadenRulez

Gezelem2002 I have to be honest, once you know Blender, it's super easy to use but as a neophyte, it can be daunting. I myself don't like using books for learning. My advice, start learning by using. The Blender.org website is a great resource for finding online tutorials. Start looking into the boolean operations in Blender. I use those a lot with my 3D printing designs (You hardly use them if you require a clean mesh.). Feel free to check back here is you need help.

Yo hows your progress
Really amazing work from those artists. For a free software Blender really has so much potential. Thanks to the Blender team for that great software!
Blender is becoming more and more a program that can do everything, whether it is 3D or 2D. On the downside of that is the ever lengthening learning curve, because the more that is added, the more complex it becomes. That said, there is no other application I have seen that can do as much as Blender. But with new builds being released on average every two months, it is a program no-one will ever fully learn, at least until it become perfect. Not likely to ever be perfect though. Don't let what I say scare you though. If you are looking for an application that does nearly everything you can't go wrong with Blender. Just keep in mind that some controls are switched, and the work space Y and Z axes are switched too.

I agree. Blender is not a "user-friendly" program. It's gonna take a lot of time to get used to, but it's worth it since it's somewhat a free program to use. So we can't really complain. Especially for those who are starting out form square one.
@l.clevelandmajor9931
10 жыл бұрын
MrCervantesent Indeed. I have had it since version 6.0, and it was my first free modeling program. It can do a lot that my other modelers cannot do so I keep it for those purposes. The latest version has formatting for 3D Printers, which to me is a very exciting prospect. I hope to have a 3D Printer in the near future and being able to print models directly from Blender will be really cool!

that can do everything? wrong(assuming you are not a serious 3d/2d rider by that) blender is getting to a point where it can't be pushed due to result of disorganized development(well its no body's fault its just the model they built the foundation upon)so I agree about the destructive complexity you said,as complexity can be constructive like paid ones but not.
@vslimpct3966
10 жыл бұрын
MrCervantesent well that said the direction they took seemed building a mere base piece and sell stuff on the market which would make it complete if ever want to use it properly so ends up being paid, its logical to prefer pro ones then.

Vsl Impct In response to your first statement, in which you assume that I am "not a serious 3d/2d rider": here is a list of the art applications I use in the order of most used to least used: DAZ Studio - A really greaty staging program that has full scene building capabilities, and several content creation tools included. Bryce - A program that is really great with landscapes creation and can be used to create fairly complex models. I use it mainly to create backdrops for DAZ Studio. Wings 3D - A free modeling program with the shortest learning curve. It has a UV mapping feature, and you can assign the textures made using the generated templates directly within the application. Microsoft Office PowerPoint - People do not normally think of it as a digital art program, but I have to say for a lot of things I do it does really well in the field of digital art. It even has limited 3D capabilities. Blender - As I have said in comments I have posted under several tutorial videos for it, this application has many things it can do. There is Modeling, UV mapping, Scene Creation, Animation, and so much more! For a free program it is at the top of the list for a lot of purposes, and there are classes for it being taught at various schools. Hexagon - Another modeling application, which I would rate at the bottom of my list for ease of use, meaning it isn't easy at all to my way of thinking. Project Dogwaffle - A 2D paint application that boasts some fairly awesome tools, not the least of which is one that allows you to create your own brushes. Paint Shop Pro _ A 2d image editor and paint program that works similar to PhotoShop, though not boasting as many tools. UV Mapper - A program that can be used to make the UV mapped templates for 3D models. Windows Paint - Not used much but still has some fairly simple things I use it for. Make Human - A figure creation program that can be used to make human shaped 3D figures. So with a list like that can you really say I am not a serious 3D and 2D digital artist? I have been studying art in all of its forms since the age of 6, and I am proficient in several forms, including digital art!
As a software engineer, I can say without reservation, Blender kicks ass!
Amazing work by the animators and the developers. It is good to see more motion graphics and ad works with blender. Started working with blender
This looks even better than Autodesk 3dsmax showreel.

If anyone is seeing this message in 2019 learn as much as you can from blender. i wish i had learned more at the beginning but this is definitely a way to begin something different.
I am a big fan of blender since your shortfilms. Best opensource program ever !!
I've been interested in doing some small animation projects and heard about this. All I can say is- DAMN!!! If this is what you can do with Blender then I'm sold 100%. WOW!
I downloaded Blender around 3 months ago and did a few tutorials. Never thought it's this powerful. this video is the most inspiring so far!!! Love it :)
That's the beautiful thing about Blender. It's free, it's cool, you can do anything you want on it. Tutorials are free. You just have to have the patience to learn
NO WAY. Just no way that was made on free software. My god this is amazing

And in 2020 with have films made in blender like next gen and it's also sneaking in the big productions. So even pixar is making add ons for Blender :D.
Spectacular! Congratulations Blender on coming so far in just a short time! Thank you Blender Community for teaching me everything I now know about using this amazing piece of software!
A month ago i finally decided that Blender is mature enough for my projects ,to do real world motion graphics and not only, and decided to use it in production. A big big Congratulation to everyone contributing for what is blender today. and ofcourse a big big Thank You. And Awesome reel between :). Cant wait for 2014 reel, :P
This program has a very bright future! Thanks to all the hard working developers. YOU ARE AWESOME!
WOW! Blender has come a long way. Great showreel.
Awesome demo reel, great to see so much quality work being produced with Blender these days :)
Man I have been waiting for a new demo reel and the wait was well worth it. Great work Blender. I will always be using Blender. :D
Great demo reel, brilliant collection of work showcased there. Very inspirational stuff.
comparing this to last years showreel, it's clear how epic blender is.
2019 comment!! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT LOOKS SO REAL!! This is AMAZING😍😍
Blender started as a 3D renderer. Now it got rigging, simulation (particles, fire/smoke, clothes, soft body, fluid), physics, game engine, anim generator (with shapes and actions), camera and object tracker, node system (for everything you can imagine, e.g. greenbox, filtering, layering,...), video sequence editor (like cutting, sync audio etc pp) and much more. The only thing which is missing is a music and audio editor :D
Blender has redefined the way artists command a 3d program. Blender is an idea- Artistic control for everyone. Blender tells us, "you have all this power. What will you create with it?"
It's just amazing what a bunch of very talented people can do with Blender :)
Searched it up and damn blender still a legend
Blender has came a long way. Nice work
Wonderful! Really very well done, top marks all around and congratulations to all the Blender artists - and Blender musicians too :)
This is going to be my new favorite program.
I thought exactly the same thing when I started Blender, but as you gradually learn more things everything just seems to make perfect sense, more than it does for Maya with me!
Another great demo reel for 2013, BLENDER ROCKSSSSSS. Wooot again for the open source community!
Thank you, Blender Foundation!
I ADORE YOUR DEV SKILLS!
Nice! A few clips in there I wish were in complete projects: movies or games. Especially the space stuff, love the space stuff!
How beatiful there is!
woah, this video just made me go back to blender, Blender is AMAZING!!
Best software ever!
Good visuals and music, particularly the flute.
I might start to use this! It looks awesome!
Very nice, thanks Ton for all you have done...especially for releasing the code.
Wow, Blender sure has come a long way!
Blender is amazing! A treat for the eyes!
I love it when people say Blender is a good program to get started in 3D stuff. Then you "move up" to another program. Just stay in Blender! It's open source and gets improvements very often. If it doesn't have a feature you want, you can write the code yourself even if you're a python n00b. Since all the source code is right there at your finger tips. Just copy and paste a new script!
Wa nice job, each year blender gets better and better, keep it up guys :)
I'm learning Blender about 9 months now and i'm enjoing so much using it. I always thought i would never be doing 3d like this but now i have a good hope :) I even made few video games... really awesome Software. Hope to post my own demo really soon when i'll have more animations to show. By the way i'm 25.It's never too late to believe you can do those kind of things. Thank you Blender foundation, i wish i could come to see you in Amsterdan one day :)
I'm looking forward to the 3.x series.. Great job, and thanks to all Blender developers and all are involved, great program ..
This is why I stick with Blender. :).
Wow!! Blender has come a long way in the last few years...
The basic fundementals are the same in all 3d packages out there, so it doesn't matter where you start. If you learn it in one application, the knowledge is easily transferable to any other package. Blender is a great place to start considering it is free and is small in size to download.
Just starting to get into animation. I feel like finding Blender may change my life.
Wow, there's some real talent there!
Just... awersome.
The Music is Awesome !
And remember, it is all about the artist, not the software that many people will try to make you believe! :)
You're powerful!!! Long Live Blender!!!
awesome blender work!
Blender's coolest feature- 3d cursor.
GREAT THANKS for ALL CREATORS of BLENDER THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just looked at Autodesk's 2013 showreel and honestly I don't feel like it is any more impressive then Blender's. Sure there was some amazing things in there but it seemed to me that software wise, blender has now became a competitor, all it takes is the right creative talent.
This dragon gives kudos to blender...defiantly need to get my tail into stuff like this again.
I love the Sci-Fi clips! and also, the fish head made me grin.
This is so awesome!!! I hope the blender foundation puts out a game. I think that would show even more of the ability of the program. Fingers crossed.

WOW, Blender! Incredible!
Great Demo Reel! I love the Music! :D
Espectacular. Que gran programa es Blender.
blender is the most powerful program ever. it's the best
Wow, amazing stuff on the demo. Currently working in heritage in the UK, I'll see if we can post something soon!
Well, since you're asking... - editable mesh parameters (even after changes to the mesh) - material editor (Maya/3ds Max) - real-time dynamics for hair (Maya nHair) - real-time soft-body dynamics (Maya) - Paint Effects (Maya) - robust Modifiers (3ds Max) - Object Paint (3ds Max) - Freeform modeling tools (3ds Max) (Blender has some tools, but not as full or integrated as Freeform) - guided autoretopo (Mudbox) I appreciate Blender's steady growth, but still, it does have much room to grow.
Outstanding, Will try it out!!!
This kind of blew my mind.
Everything..Is ...just.....freaking......epic
Best 3D software ever!
this demo is a big deal ! Thumbs up!
amazing!
Still my favorite Demo Reel.
Looks great!
Amazing work
This is awesome ! i will download it !!
amazing work, and amazing engine blender foundation :)
The word you meant is proprietary and I don't think anyone ever has to worry about any Blender developers stealing commercial source code to release as their own open source work.
Awesome! thanks
Awesome!
This is pretty impressive.
The power of open source!
