Worse than that, as the AI says that all active personnel and combat units have been lost. In other words, the AI was making a futile effort to keep the fighters' "chambers" still energized!

Ive seen this animation for years and its always amazing. The use of the B29 engines and sounds harkens back to the only use of atom bombs in war and an era where 1 decision could have made this our reality. How many times have we stared nuclear war in the face? How many times has death stood there waiting for 1 person to condemn us all to die? How many times? Maybe it's better if we never know.

@BlitzFromBehind yes they are. Theres a double propeller, but the housing is a B29. The audio is more of a B17, but the visual cowling and engine design is a B29

What is the name ?

What does it take to get an AI to acknowledge that a war that ceased 20 years ago has finally and truly ended? The loss of any and all of its assets. Another thing I like about this animation is that it doesn't demonize regular people who are caught up in war, suffer from it. We used to blame our leaders for stupid wars, now it's common to say that all of humanity is guilty for the crimes and greed of the powerful.

All computers follow a strict sets of directive, so does ia, if the only input is "operate the base assets to conduct strike toward known enemy city" it will do so as long as it has any capability or is damaged to de point of inoperabile itself. Your computer will still be on and trying to complete a download even if you disconnect it and leave it on for 20 years(if it doesn't break before)

This is a great animation and it really tells a story from just actions, what a world this was and that 20 years caused this to happen.

moving, bitter, yet sweet, humbling. This is a brilliant piece. The last of the war was not even over people, as they were gone. Just machines following through. I am blown away.

Absoulutely fantastic dystopian sci-fi at it's conceptual best 🌟considering this is 7+ years old one can appreciate the amount of work it took to make this 🌟the stylisation and use of atmospherics / sound and vocal fx / music is perfectly worked to create full immersion in the story line >> perfect 👌💯👀🎥🎯😎🌠

So emotional that every time I see it it causes me physical pain.

Fantastic, I remember watching this years ago... one of the craziest things watching it again in 2024 is that this level of graphics can now be done on a mid-range smart phone.

I always loved this clip growing up! My friend was the one to show me and it made me grow passion for these darker themes which are currently being displayed in the games I'm trying to make!

Love this.❤❤❤ I love all of it. This reminds me of if warhammer wars finally ended.

@@armorhide406 Yes, "Flying Dutchman" by Ward Moore, a nearly identical story of an automated bomber and base fighting on an earth long since scorched. Well worth a read if you can find it, the atmosphere is almost more surreal and bleak than here.

What is most terrifying is that the way the world is today this right here will most likely be our fate.

It feels like this has the potential to be on par with Wall-e if it was made into a movie. I remember watching this five years ago.

I'm just noticing this detail now after watching this several times.. in the Antlers of the deer, you can see a glimpse of the Cosmos, starlight.. did the fauna of our world hold the secret of starflight all along? Was the Spacefaring Destiny of humans abandoned and Forsaken, when we could not put aside our belligerence and bickering and instead extinguished our Spark for all time here on our home planet, until none were left and we were utterly Extinct? Such an excellent and provocative short film😮

What I am still slightly confused about is either why everyone is dead (don't know if the people in the secondary thinking centers are still alive or not they look. Very dead) but even if they aren't why didn't they leave the facility while worn down looks mostly intact and I wouldn't think that everyone died atleast that worked in the air base they probably had years upon years of food and such for the other things like the pilots may make more sense but it seems very strange that everyone is just dead without stopping the AIs or some such

5:09 here the way those notes started reminded me of the ending of "Paths of Hate" I don't know if it was intentional or not, but I makes a sad yet meaningful poetry about how those paths ultimately led to mankind's termination.

The last war ends with a wimpering silence because no one will be left to start a new one

After watching this a couple dozen times since it was released, I finally understand it. The last humans die when the AI computer shuts down the “thinking units” in order to have enough power to open the bunker for the bomber. Twisted but delightful.

Its not the full fim, the beginning with the fight between the interceptor and the fortress is missing.

We all know tech won’t be this reliable in the future

Woah woah woah. So in 20 years, they suck the last power out of the people who got turned into computers to launch a broken bomber, and when that breaks it ejects a dead guy 20 years after any human had raised a finger? Yeah, if I was visiting that planet I would be very shocked indeed.
