Opening his old tassel, the Blades of Chaos glimmered in the rays of lightning that reached trough the cracks of his home. Hesitation was the only thing that came to him at that moment. But would it be stronger to resist it, or give into it, but use it for good? Feeling the blades, they were still sharp, yet time has made them dull for thousands of years. Soon, the horrible memories came back. The echoes of Kratos' past reminded how much blood those weapons spilled in their lifetime, his Spartan brothers, the people all around Greece, even his own wife and daughter. Forged from the foulest depths of Hades, their craving for battle never died. This was a feeling he was all too familiar with. The scars on his arms that still bled shivered out of fear. Would he be willing to hold them again? While he's grabbing the black chains, Kratos wrapped them around his arms. However, Athena appeared after the fall of Olympus and gave the fallen Spartan a warning..._ Athena: _There's nowhere you can hide, Spartan. Put as much distance between you and the truth as you want, it changes nothing. Pretend to be everything you are not: teacher, husband, father. But there is one unavoidable truth you will never escape: You cannot change. You will always be... a monster._ Gaia: _As Kratos puts his hands on the handles of the Blades, they awaken the Hellfire of Hades once more, and he gave Athena a response of his own._ Kratos: I know... But I am your monster no longer. Gaia: _After stepping outside of his cabin, the Hel-Walkers appeared before Kratos. After years of suppressing his true feelings and anger had led up to this moment. Gripping the Blades of Chaos tightly until his knuckles turned white, he let out the loud shout of a Spartan, and began the slaughter... He hacked and slashed at everything near him. Monsters, trees, stone, it didn't matter. The rage had been too much. He was unleashing everything he had at everything around him. The ground on which he was standing on was shaking from his aggressive strikes. The earth trembled at the once forgotten rage of the Spartan. The sky striking thunder close to the river. He was angry at the Norse gods. He was angry at the monsters which attacked him. He was angry at himself for what he once was. With each swing and throw of the blades was enough to make the snow melt and turn black, dry the ground soil, and bleach the tree leaves white. The fire in Kratos' heart was back, and nothing was going to stop him. Gritting his teeth, he gripped the blades even tighter and swore on his own life, that he would save his only son... It was on this dark snowy day, that the Ghost of Sparta... is reborn..._

As much as I love this moment, we shouldn't put a stigma into the devs heads, Cory Barlog had this problem when He was developing GoW 2. In this game the devs didn't have that stigma and now they literally have a scene that rivals the "ash scene" from the og GoW.

I think this is how it should've went: When Kratos takes the blades out and wears them, his old theme is playing. But when he says to Athena "But i'm your monster no longer", his new theme starts playing from there. Implying that even though he has the blades back, he is still the new and reformed Kratos from throughout the game.

I really wish they would've done that. Having the GoW1 music play all the way through didn't feel right. It's saying "hey, old Kratos is back!". Anyone that's played the old games wouldn't really think that's a good thing. Old (young? lol) Kratos was a psycho douche.

I just don't like the way this armor looks man. Really not a fan of it. And it sucks that they copy-pasted the Cod of War, Ares and Zeus Armours and just Made a different tint. Just Imagine if Ares' Armor was like in God of War 1 NG+, Zeus I have no idea honestly. Ascension ones didn't even make him look like Kratos so I don't want those. And for The Cod of War. Just c'mon. You can't have a Cod of War Armor and not have it look like a Costume. Yes I get the whole "You can have different sets" thing. But some of these Classic Armours should have a Full set and it stays that way. If you equip different armour they're Invisible. You only need one Piece of an Armor to get the big boy to show up. Sorry for the Complaint.

When I first knew that the blades of chaos would make a return in God of war, I expected the game developers to do something like this. So I got a little bit disappointed that they did not. You did a mesmerizing job, from the editing to the effects and bgm... Splendid

it's impressive how music can change a scene so much and make you feel a different way. maybe in the greek games the result could change too, like when poseidon is killed and the seas rise, inserting a sad song making you feel the consecuenses of kratos 's actions and what is the real sacrifice to obtain his revenge

Absolutely, music is the most important tool to make you feel. Even the saddest scene can be ruined with wrong music, and you won't feel what the scene intended you to. And if this scene is supposed to be without music, putting the right one can enhance the feelings like ten times. Very powerful tool. At least for me, idk, maybe i just love music too much and therefore give it much more attention 😅

This is what we in the business call getting active.

I would've cried even more if that soundtrack played there, damm, the memories are coming back

i like that with the cold frozen land of norse myhtology, kratos fiery rage still burns as in this seen we see him let out the rage and furry he had when facing the greek pantheon, hands down one of the best parts.

Hey, nice to see an old fan. I was watching my older brother playing the very first GoW i think back in 2006 before i dare to play it myself (it looked too dark, too adult and even kinda scary for me, but that is what attracted me as well). I think it was my first "big and serious" game experience, or maybe somewhere near that.

mannnn that second finisher when he first leaves the cabin was timed perfectly with the bgm, this brought a tear to my eye, more developers need to do this. Nothing wrong with bringing back OG soundtracks especially for pinnacle moments like this, this made the scene 100 times better and i had chills the entire video great work man!

BEST SOUNDTRACK EVER, IN GAME HISTORY

I love how Warrior’s Truth fits perfectly with the scene, especially the way it ends after Kratos has taken out all of the Hel walkers and the song doesn’t feel out of place in the Norse setting. I really wish it was used in the actual game

I don’t know if it’s because they had the most technology with it being the last of the original music specialist and they went out with a bang or what but it’s the most powerful version I’ve heard

Yeah it's awesome, and the quality of it is definitely playing a huge role. And the newest Valhalla version is good too, but it's not that aggressive and powerful (understandable why), so the best is still remains Ascension's.

Its also cool because that's the InGame Version rather than the album version therefor it plays louder and the inception horn cues in much louder and progressive to compliant the overall sound. Which to me is crazy because that's the first GOW and it still stands up as a arguable number 1. But I agree, Ascension did the absolute best at depicting pure power and emotional chaos in each one of their soundtracks.

One minor detail I wish this scene had is that,when kratos caresses the blade, I think it should cast orange cinder around, as his fingers slide through it.

First and foremost, beautifully done. It's now perfect. Secondly, I've always found it incredible that Mimir NEVER comments on Athena's appearance here. Leaving it very ambiguous as to whether or not Athena ACTUALLY came back to haunt him, or if Kratos in all of his trauma, his pain, his regret, manifested her, and thus she's merely some figment of his own imagination. His mind reminding him, taunting him, as she would, (as Ares would as well) because of all of these feelings, the memories, and the hatred he feels toward those connected (including himself) towards those infamous blades. "...but there is one unavoidable truth you will never escape. You cannot change. You will always be a monster." So many discussion have been had about this scene, but I find it fascinating that she comments that he cannot escape his past, his guilt, his shame, HIMSELF. And he has accepted it. He cannot run from it. He accepts it. All the pain he caused. The countless deaths. The massacres. The killing of his wife and child. The destruction of Greece. And the chaos he left to exact his revenge on an entire pantheon, his own family no less. He accepts it. It is essentially him saying. "I have tried to travel back in time. I have cheated death. I have destroyed my family, a pantheon, an even those undeserving. I accept I am a monster. But I WILL NOT BE THE MONSTER YOU MADE ME." It is a proclamation. It is an assertion of identity. And his way of not simply becoming the thing he left behind, but reforging himself into a necessary being he can channel, using blades he swore to never use again because they represent nothing but suffering and death. They brought no good, and now, he finds that they may actually serve some good here. So much in one brief scene. Kudos to Santa Monica Studios here.

This part made me cry 😢 of happiness 😊 though that was the end of the Blades didn't expect this.

It killed me that they didn’t play the classic theme for the Blades reveal when the came first came out but this makes me happy

this means deep down that rage still burns even tho he killed zeus and moved on had a child. that pain from having his own familys blood on his hands still exists and there will always be a part of him that is the ghost of sparta. and any god who sees him and knows his past will expect to see that from him. making the fights more intense and more brutal

This just makes me wish they brought out the horns and drums for when Kratos had ever slipped into his past ways. Aka, the Blades of Chaos, when he killed a few gods, and when he perhaps explained his past.

Kratos absolutely hates those weapons but all of the fans are screaming in joy 🤣

Kratos return his Fangs and Claws not just to become A Monster again but a monster saving his sons life to the sickness

This is exactly how it should have been because the music sync when he got the blade was absolutely perfect and realistic if they had went for old music that's exactly how it would have been

I think it'd work better if they had the old theme playing in the background as he puts the chains on and Athena's talking to him, but when Kratos begins walking out it gets overpowered by his new theme
