Blader Union reviews the new USD Sway 57 2020 Skate | Inline Skating

Спорт

A few weeks ago, USD started teasing a new offering of the Sway aggressive skate for 2020. With a White and Black color way, and new Kizer Fluid V frames, it seemed like a hit. With the stay home, stay safe lockdown in place, finding a place to review them was a challenge. We took a grind box over to an undercover area and Ryan brought his pair with him for a quick session. Practicing social distancing and making sure to stay safe, I got a quick session in on the skates, and sat down for a quick review.
We have no affiliation with any of the companies or products shown, so my option is 100% my own.

    Great review, I know a lot of people were interested in the new Kizer fluid 5 frames. I noticed that you mentioned the size as a 10-11 shell, but the skate comes in 9-10 (43-44) and 11-12 (45-46) shell sizes. Also, I found the Sway shell to be very accommodating for my wide feet, but I ride the 7.5-8 (41-42) shell, so there may be some difference in width depending on the length.

    You're absolutely right. I didn't even think of that. I'd assume they were the 11-12 shells now that I think of it. I forgot USD has that wacky sizing from everyone else. I'll verify to be 100% sure on my answer though. - Travis

    I'm a huge fan of the Razors SL Skates. No pain in that spot at all. It's my everyday skate. Super versatile, and feels great. If those don't work, a sized down Roces Fifth Element works wonders too for wide feet. Hope that helps! - Travis

    Are these the 10-10.5 or the 11-12 shells? I'm curious because they do not have a 10-11.

    Thanks for the review. I got these for my first aggressive style skate because some Reddit comments mentioned they were good for wide feet. They do seem okay to me, but in your video I think you were saying you prefer something wider? If that's true, do you have any recommended brands or skates for wide feet? Thanks, I really enjoy your content.

    Really really solid skating and style Travis! I would recommend heat molding the liner if you are having trouble with your accessory navicular, but at the same time, it also depends on the skates. I had no problem with that area in my Gawds even when I sized down, but had trouble with it in Powerslide NEXTs and Razors Genesys. You also said the groove was really scary but you didn't get wheelbite, what do you mean by "scary"? I ride 50/50s flat and that groove is definitely very small, this groove looks more forgiving than that. My 50/50 flat setup I would characterize as somewhat difficult to deal with but generally wheelbite does not make me eat shit or anything. How does the groove stack up to Megas?

    Interesting insight on the 50/50 flat frames Thank you I’ve always wondered about that groove in that setup Looks less than stellar with all the flat setup options there are out there currently Just my few pennies

    Thank you so very much for that. I really try to work hard on my skating and style, and it's always appreciated when folks take notice. Thank you! So I don't know if the liner in that skate could be heat molded. There wasn't much to it. Even with my Sis, that same pressure point appeared. And yes, it always depends on the skate for me. V13's/M12's do not work at all for me, but the Valo lights were amazing. Speaking about the groove, it's a very very tight groove, and it's pretty unforgiving. Comparing it to the 50/50 groove, the Kizer is higher, and will have less wheelbase I'd assume, but it also comes with an increased chance of slipping out as that H Block is just so tight. Fat rails would be scary to try on. But the material looks like it'd expand over time as your break it in and break it down. Comparing it to the Megas, the mega have a much better H Block and skate about the same on angles. between the two, I'd skate the megas if I had to make a choice. But the plastic is nicer on the fluids for sure. It's all personal preference. - Travis

    I tested a lot of things. If you have an accessory navicular, heating up the shell itself and pushing out the plastic is the way to go. (Sounds like Travis has something else tho.)

  • @ThisWeekinBlade

    @ThisWeekinBlade

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@HOllyBOni Possibly the same thing. I've never had it diagnosed or anything. It's just always been a pressure point right on the Royale groove of many skates. Yeah, heat molding might help for sure. It was just prominent and defined pain, and usually an level of heat molding has not overcome that in the past with other skates. - Travis

  • @ThisWeekinBlade

    I responded above about that. " I've modified the toe box on some 8-9's before and skated them for a month or so, but I'm a true 10-11 in those shells" The 8-9's with intuitions did not work for me. I'm an 11, so sizing down makes me a 10. If you are a 10, you can do an 8-9 probably no problem. Even without toe box modification. My whole position is why cheat your feet to get a slightly smaller shell? If you stub your toes in those smaller skates, it super hurts. I gave up and skate what my feet want me to skate, and it's made me immensely happier. - Travis

    just shave down the top area of the royale groove 2-3 millimeters. also, i wonder since you're using a thinner liner if it makes that area more of a painful pressure point than it needs to be.
