Great editing. Always loved this song on the Teases and Dares CD, had some interesting songs on it. It went from a rockabilly pop song to this futuristic sound. Was a mish mash of styles but very electro and before it's time.

I totally agree...although your comment is 4 years old, an piece of advice for all the other listeners of her music: Kims first 4 original albums from the 80s and on CD are (relatively) rare, but available...there are also Expanded+Remastered CDs - should be cheaper and good quality.

I'd thought of doing this for years, but you've beaten me to it! Brilliant job; the only thing I would do myself (and still may if I can ever get my hands on the right equipment) would be to make the video all about Pris, since the song is from her point of view (at least that's how I've always reckoned it) -- with Deckard only appearing sparingly.

Cool song for Blade Runner, though another tune I'd suggest would be Runner by Manfred Mann and his Earth Band. I know, it's supposed to be about the Olympics, but I think the lyrics can apply to the Blade Runner that's in all of us: And you will run your time/ A shooting star across the sky/ And you will surely cross the line/To pass on the flame. It's about the courage to believe in your own heroism, to stand for what's right, even when your own darkness threatens you. Which, to me, is the hallmark of Harrison's best films: Star Wars, Raiders, Clear and Present Danger, even Regarding Henry, he plays the hero we can be. No, scratch that: the hero we already are! We don't need heroes per se, as they are not the I Ching, the fount of knowledge, etc. Only as guides to finding our own hero within. That's why Kim Wilde's song is empowering: obviously she has seen the film and did this song to inspire us into believing in Deckard and his purpose as a warrior standing alone to battle corporate evil involved in technology which puts ordinary people at risk. He battles Replicants, he shows no fear even when the temptation to cave in is overwhelming, he finds out along the way he's the very enemy himself that he has sworn as officer of the law to destroy. In the end, he triumphs through redemption. This above all is why I consider this 1982 classic my favorite film ever. Period. End of discussion. I hope this message inspires fans, past, present and future, to see both the original and the sequel. To see all sorts of movies about heroism and be inspired. Like it or not, Deckard is in all of us. He is us. Same as Roy Batty is us, or Rachael, or at times Captain Bryant, JF Sebastian or Eldon Tyrell. Once we acknowledge this, then and only then can we feel redeemed enough to fight for a better, less dystopian future. It IS possible. We are the generation that is truly running the Blade, to shine it so that others can see! We have already won the race thru the love of God. Let's keep running. Don't look back, we will get there!

and for those who remember the movie and like the idea of this song being the theme - remember, when the vehicle is passing by this huge screen and a woman is advertising some kind of pill i think? well just imagine kim instead. what a nice touch :)

yes, the song does roll well w/video. since the song appeared on album 5 years after the movie was out i guess kim (and perhaps her brother who wrote most of the songs on teases and dares) were still under the charm of the movie and quite so, since the movie still inspires new generations. as for kim she was never recognized in usa; i guess she had too much competition in the local market (pat benatar a.o.) but she did quite well in europe, asia etc.

rokmalpy Actually the album came out 2 years after the movie and although she had more success in other countries, she still did pretty well in the states considering. Getting a US #1 in 1986 and touring with Michael Jackson. Not too shabby

vivandav67 Couldn't have been. Blade Runner was released early into the 80s. The album this song was on, Teases & Dares, released in 84. Wilde at this time when the movie came out had yet to become the star she would be.

Naegi Makoto Well Blade Runner was released in 1982, so this song is clearly a tribute to it and yes would’ve made a fine addition to the Vangelis OST, but Kim Wilde was definitely a star at the time with the release Kids In America, Chequered Love, Water On Glass and her debut album in 1981 and her second album out in 1982

Can't be true; because actual samples are in the tune. I wonder what the story of this song is?

khal007 It was written by her brother and father for her fourth studio album in 1984, Teases & Dares. It did take samples from the film to use in the song. I honestly have no idea if the song is really inspired by the film or if it was renamed that by the label she was signed to, MCA Records, as she was forced to undergo an image change from the girl next door to a less sexual and even more 80s looking Barbarella.
