One of the most sad and beautiful song, and her vocal...oh God... I'm crying my hart and soul out right now... I was around 5-6 when heard this song for the first time... Mom and Daddy loved this song, they played it on the radio cassette, during our family trips( a little bit morbid 🤔, just like Hotel California, which was" their song") .... He died 2 years later...😢 I'm sooo grateful to him for those tapes... He left me an invaluable trace of his soul... He left me a treasure.💌❤

Lyrics Well he was Thailand based She was an airforce wife He used to fly weekends It was the easy life But then it turned around And he began to change She didn't wonder then She didn't think it strange But then he got a call He had to leave that night He couldn't say too much But it would be alright He didn't need to pack They'd meet the next night He had a job to do Flying to Cambodia And as the nights passed by She tried to trace the past The way he used to look The way he used to laugh I guess she'll never know What got inside his soul She couldn't make it out Just couldn't take it all He had the saddest eyes The girl had ever seen He used to cry some nights As though he lived a dream And as she held him close He used to search her face As though she knew the truth Lost inside Cambodia But then a call came through They said he'd soon be home She had to pack a case And they would make a rendez-vous But now a year has passed And not a single word And all the love she knew Has disappeared out in the haze (Cambodia, don't cry now, no tears now) And now the years have passed With not a single word But there is only one thing left I know for sure She won't see his face again Source: LyricFind

The first time I heard this song was so magical! I was studying in Prague, I actually just moved in the city and was having a drink with this new friend I just made. As we were waiting for our drinks, this song started playing in the basement of this random bar we were in, and she instantly stared at me with stars in her eyes, I said: what ? She realized I didn’t know the song and yelled « it’s Kim Wilde! ». She started dancing, the lights were purple and the atmosphere magical, and I felt mesmerized by her and the song. After that night, we spent the whole year together. Unforgettable

Kim Wilde's Cambodia c/w Watching for shapes was a hit in 1981. Total babe...as well as always having loved her biggest hit Kids In America it's hard for any teenage boy from the early 80s who liked New Wave to forget Kim.
Magnifique chanson. Kim Wilde a une voix magnifique. J adore cette chanteuse.
As well as a haunting song, with an emotive narrative, the production was a masterpiece. The backing is like nothing else...the reversed drums, the backing vocals, and synths, just amazing! Add in Kim's excellent vocal, and you have a powerful song that deserves more airplay. Sure we love "kids in America' but kim's catalogue is wide and accomplished, and we need her other stuff played.

Saw Kim and the band live yesterday - she's 62 now! and still sings like her 20 year old self. Her niece Scarlett Wilde, doing backing vocals, has just about the same voice I believe :D One of the best concerts I ever attended. The crowd suddenly fell all silent when the first chords of Cambodia came up, wildly danced and cheered to all of it, like Water on Glass, You Came, View From a Bridge, Keep Me Hanging On, and then the hall all but exploded on Kids in America for the great final. We were literally back in the 80s there, awesome!!
