Blade Runner - End Titles by Vangelis [Cryonaut Tribute Cover]

Музыка

Blade Runner was released in 1982, when I was 10 years old, but I didn't actually see the film until I was well into my teens. And even though at that age I didn't fully appreciate the story yet, the movie still made a huge impression on me, not only for the breathtaking visuals, but musically as well. Vangelis' iconic score was perfectly matched to the bleak, but mesmerising dystopia of future Los Angeles. I fell in love with the film, but even more with the soundtrack, and particularly the End Titles final track.
End Titles was one of my first exposures to the beautiful blending of silky strings with arpeggiated synthesizer patterns. And though I probably wasn't aware of it at the time, that track would take root in my mind and go on to influence much of the music I make today, which is laden with plenty of synth arpeggios, and just as many orchestral elements, especially strings.
For this piece, I wanted to pay proper tribute to the original arrangement of the End Titles theme, but then advance it into new territory by adding a more pronounced beat, shifting the key here and there, and even bringing a dash of the epic Opening Titles melody into play toward the end.
The video is a straightforward homage to all of the wonderful cinematography and characters of the movie. Of course I don't own the rights to any of it, and all the rights belong to their respective owners. I haven't monetized this video, nor do I want any money because of it. It is simply my humble way of paying tribute to one of the great influences in my life, and of saying thank you to its director, cinematographer, actors, and crew, as well as to composer, Vangelis and to conceptual designer Syd Mead, both of whose influence is saturated through every fibre of this film. Thank you so much for all you have given to the world.

...sometime between 1992 and 1995, can't really remeber exactly, my father got a job as a cab driver, for a fancy Romanian hotel. He was, as most east europeans back then, very curious, anxious to find and discover the new era, what happens in the west, what music do the westerners play, and why! He met a lady that gave him a casette, one with the Vangelist and another one with Bob Marley.(i mean, a completely bizzare combination) Very strange choice i would think, but then again... This made a tremendous impact on me: i remember listening to vangelist and bob marley, and asking my self - what is this? It was very, i mean, extremely different music than what i was listening back then. Strange and curious times! Very strange But then again, i met 2 of the most capable and loving human. beings of that century!

  • @CryonautMusic

Hey, thanks, Thomas! I appreciate it! I've always used Logic Pro for my productions, but the plug-in synths have evolved a bit over the years. I still use Alchemy a lot (which is a fantastic default synth included with Logic). I've always used a lot of Native Instrument synths as well, primarily Massive, FM8, Absynth, Monark and Razor. They're all included in N.I.'s Komplete bundle. More recently I've picked up Omnisphere, which is an absolute beast. It could easily be the only synth you'd ever need, as it can pretty much do anything any of these others can. The new arpeggiator on the latest version is mind blowing. I also just picked up Arturia's Pigments 2.0 and am having fun exploring all the weird ways it can create and morph sound. It's a great synth and Arturia is doing a great job keeping it updated and putting out new presets. In all honesty, I don't think I really need this many synths, especially if I knew a bit more about sound design. I tend to like to explore presets and then tweak them to get the sound I'm after, so in my mind: more synths equals more presets with more ways to tweak them. I'd probably save some money if I just learned a bit more about crafting my own sounds from scratch, but to each his own. If I were to recommend just a few from these, I would say Alchemy is the best bang for your buck if you have a Mac, as it's included in Logic. After that, probably Omnisphere (although it's a bit on the pricey side). A close third would be Massive, simply because it's been so popular for so long, there are tons of presets, tutorials, etc. available everywhere for it. Of course, Serum seems to be the current king of plug-in synths, but I have yet to pick that one up. From everything I've heard, it's very user friendly, sounds fantastic, and has a ton of tutorials and presets available. That might be my next purchase :) Anyway, apologies if this is too much detail. I've actually been considering doing some videos showing my subscribers my studio and how I create my music, but I'm not sure if there's that much interest. If you'd like to see that sort of thing, please let me know and I can start putting vids together going over my creation process and the equipment/software I use.

It would be great to see how you make your music / a little tutorial, I always find seeing stems / workflows helps with learning music making. @@thomascahir244 That's great, Thomas! Ableton is a very popular DAW (for good reason) and there's a ton of good tutorial content on KZread for it. And even though I use Logic, much of what I'd be showing/teaching in my own videos would be useful (hopefully!) no matter which DAW you were working in. Thanks for the support - now I'll have to figure out how to film myself and my workflow... :)
