Great video as always guys! The blackmagic color science, especially with the gen 5 update is insane. Super good in low light too with that dual iso. I need to test this out!

I have a BMPCC6K Pro rented right now and I love it. The interface and usability is by far the best I’ve ever used on any camera.

I have 2x4PKs and one P6K. This rev2 6K looks like a very nice upgrade. The EVF option, tilt screen, bonus mini-xlr port, and ND filters show that Blackmagic is listening to customers. This camera definitely performs outside its price range. Having said that, I've always had to fight a bit with it to get the color grade to do what I want. My C70, however, usually looks amazing with just the default Rec709 LUT. I know this KZread video wasn't necessarily meant to show a great color grade on the 6Kr2, but I really don't like how the camera looks in many of the shots, especially in the night parking lot shots. When it cuts to the C70, it's night and day in terms of image quality. At 13:18, it does look very nice though. I also don't like how the extra battery grip is basically a clumsy fix for the horrible battery life. I wish they had just gone with a different battery. The C70 gets around 3 hours with just one of their small batteries that takes a fraction of the bulk of the P6Kr2 solution. In spite of my complaints, you can definitely shoot some very nice footage with it, and if you put in the time in the color, you can achieve excellent results. In my experience of using Canon, Sony, and Blackmagic mid-range cine cameras, I've always been the most pleased with Canon's color out of camera and achieved desired end results much quicker. It's definitely subjective of course, but even my old 5D3 video looks fantastic right out of camera (though with lower res and limited dynamic range). Blackmagic is still the hands down king of UI. Their menus destroy every other camera I have used. We are slowly starting to see other cameras move in their direction. Canon's C70 menu takes a few cues from BM, but has along way to go.

Great Video Gene! My previous company of 18 years died with the pandemic, so I started watching your videos back in March last year and learned enough about videography to be able to help out struggling small businesses in my community with content. This camera was my 1st "real" camera moving away from an iPhone. I had the Mavic Mini, but it's currently on holiday 150 ft. at the bottom of Lake Cumberland so a new Mini 2 would be a great addition to my business

Absolutely loving my 6k Pro. With the battery grip, it's a totally useable self-contained Cinema Camera that can be used handheld. Pretty incredible for the money.

Have been waiting for you to go over the 6K Pro. Really considering it as my first cinema cam and have been watching so much about it. Glad an update was released.

I just got one! Stoked thus far. Been shooting canon dslr. Definitely a few things to learn about on this new cam and it serves a great purpose. The dynamic range is great

Maybe wait for the BMPCC 6k Pro PLUS* in a year or two with FULL articulating screen 8 stops ND and cheaper EVF and more versatile RF mount AND more stable battery add on piece. That wobble Gene highlighted shows BM are either sloppy or deliberratley leaving flaws in their product to force upgrade. Why make fixed screen for 4k and 6k, why not full articulation on this 6k Pro? WHY WHY WHY ?

@@jacksp8de I think a Fuji x-s10 with 8 bit 420 log internal or 422 10 bit external in more compact body is a cheaper/better alteranative to this if you dont need the RAW aspect , Its cheaper and smaller to carry too, plus has IBIS !

@@DirectAccessYT I am a DP so the Blackmagic 6K is the best thing for me. In this price point nothing compares. For me its either this or a Sony FX6 or Canon C70. The hybrid camera I would get is the Panasonic s5 with external recording.

This video is awesome. One thing I noticed is that the color grading in your videos is soooo nice. A color grading tutoring would be amazing because I’m super curious how you get such nice colors.

The picture does fit your style really well, with that big contrast range the pushed shadows look very natural.

Amazing that you just posted this video right now, I have been going back and forth all week between the a7siii and the pocket 6kpro as my first camera after film school! Literally right before you posted this I chose the pocket 6k pro (through your link of course), with a meike prime as my first lens! Also your video about bags convinced me of the think tank bag instead of the lopro. Thank you so much for all your content over the years! You have always put out great videos. That are really informative and also really fun to watch at the same time! I really believe in passing things forward, so if I'm chosen as the winner, I'll happily find a musician at the begining of his career and I'll make them a free music video, and I'll film most of it with the mavic, and I'll ask them to pass it forward also and play at a charity event or something of the sort, and so on and so forth... Thank you for covering the Luc adapter/ND filter issue. I was wondering how that would work out when the camera was announced. I have one of those in my 6K currently and it's money. That really helps make the choice easy to stick with the setup I have.

The Sam angry at the sea montage was too good.

Blackmagic's UI is really nice on their cameras, something completely underrated. So much nicer than wading through the MMO of menus in Sony/Canon/Nikon!

I was dying for you to review this camera but I'm glad you waited for the update. Here's a tip though, try shooting handheld with the neck-strap attached. With 2 hands, the neck-strap and your chest, you get 4 points of contact. I'm running the Sigma 18-35 and it's looking pretty smooth for not having stabilization.

First of all you re living the dream so I really hope you enjoy it!Congrats!Also its probably due to youtube compression but the image out of the 6k especially in low light it leaves a lot to be desired(very noisy - maybe link both some edited and some raw samples in the description?)!Well done for your content its always special when there is one of your videos out.

Gene, would you consider doing a video on bridge cameras such as the Sony Cyber-shot series, and comparing the images to smart phone images in all types of lighting conditions? This type of video would interest most casual and occasional shooters for things such as family vacations and filming their children in school plays. There are a lot more casual and occasional viewers than professional photographers. Thanks.

Ive just completed a project with it and really enjoy it, the ibis and af are top notch along with the colour space and editing flexibility. I haven't touched the 4k 120 or 8k yet as I don't need it commercially. I choose the r5 over the 6 mainly because I shoot landscapes and architecture as well sometimes. How about you and the r5?

Thanks for checking out my showreel! I need to update it, its been a busy year! Also, Sounds great! Is your project out yet? It would be great to see! Yes the auto focus is brilliant even in 4k. I used 8k a couple of times , however, it tends to overheat frequently. Have you had any issues with overheating? I haven't had this problem with r6 , I still think the r5 is a superior camera and will definitely improve once canon fixes the minor bugs. Thanks

I was helping a friend shoot a short film this weekend and he was using this camera. We needed a good autofocus at one point; he chose to close up the lens to avoid focus issues.

Haven't finished watching the video yet but it looks really nice. KEEP IT UP!

Oh man I love this Camera mayba i should switch from my original bmpcc 6k which I also bought after seeing your video. Especially loving the new internal nds.

Yeah but that is easy noise you can get rid of resolve noise reduction. I have a pocket 6k and wonder why i didn't use NR on these clips too.

NO The camera gives you a raw output so you HAVE TO aply noise reduction. Most Cameras aply it in camera thats, not cinema cameras like Blackmagic/Alexa/Red...

You can’t review a bmpcc and not talk about the automatic highlight recovery! Literally the best part of black magic raw!

Seeing a fixed noise pattern in that slo mo of Sam. Used to get that with my GH5’s slo mo as well.

Hahah! Sams expression is simply epic with the music!heheheh

At 12:15 it did have some play and that will always be the case with grips but you also didn't have both screws into the camera which would have made it a little better. I noticed it from the other shot from the same spot when you took it off the tripod. Also the grip moves forward and back when you jiggle it showing that you need both screws.

Great content! I noticed so much noise at 3200iso which seemed unusual. On the Pocket 4K 3200 is very clean.
