You are mistaken if you can use a rear drop in filter for the EF mount. The version you were showing is a RF -EF adapter. That is why you should go with the L mount version, that is the only way you can have rear drop in filters plus you have access to the very good and excellent Cooke SP3 and the Zeiss Nano lenses which are not available in EF or PL mounts.

@Siimkristjanpariis I asked them directly that I would love to see this feature. They were kinda silent which either means it’s already in development or it’s never going to happen 😂
If I were you, I would go with the L mount because then you can adapt it to EF or PL if you ever go that way in the future. Also, you can get the Tilta Mirage matte box system that clamps on the front of your lenses and the ND filter that it comes with is amazing.

And Mid49 said they will be developing some options for the Pyxis. Including a BP-U to V-mount adapter (similar to what wooden camera and Tilta make for the FX6 which uses the same battery).

Love it ! For a grip I would recommend the DJI Lidar. obviously a little bit of dough to acquire, but it acts as a grip and an auto-focus/ focus wheel when in manual. I think it will be an amazing option for this rig,
I use the Hollyland M1 Enhanced kit everyday with my ursa 12k. It is excelent. Well built, great size and with sdi + hdmi. 800dollars for 2 monitors incl. Transmiter is an amazing deal.
Great video. I would for sure get the Black Magic video assist monitor. We use that on the Komodo and I can imagine having the exact same user interface on the camera as the display would be really convenient, Plus, you get the option of choosing between 5" and 7".

Had the original assist, may be worth trying the newer ones!
A right side handle **with a strap**. This is one of the most under-appreciated bits of kit in hand held or shoulder mounted rigging. A strap on the handle allows you to relax your hand while still stabilizing the camera letting gravity rather than grip strength and stamina do most of the work. In my case I have had some Ursas along the way and already own a couple of those side handles, but there are third parties who make them as well. And keep in mind, even if the handle happens to have a run/stop button that doesn’t mean you need to power or connect it. Any handle can…just be a handle.
Killer show this year, sorry I missed you..
def go with the port keys because you can control all of the camera functions from the monitor
Does anyone know if IR pollution still is a thing with this sensor like it was back with the Pocket 4k/6K? For those you need a ND filter with IR cut otherwise you get horrible discolored blacks. That made the ND choice quite a bit more expensive. Did BMD fix this with the 6k cine / pyxis full frame sensor? If not, this could be another price / quality consideration for people.
Also a solution for carrying around the little ND's and what I've done in the passed when I used. Meike sell additional filter holders you can get, and I've used some strong hook and loop to stick them to the top of my rig, I could see myself doing that with 2 holders if I were to get the pyxis since there would be enough room on top for it. I'd have 1 filter in the mount itself, 1 holder empty and ready to receive the filter when I wish to swap and then pull the other filter from the second holder. Hopefully that makes sense!
Great video presentation
That Meike adapter won’t work. It’s for EOS-R lens mounts. You’re gonna have to do front filters. There’s nothing that can adapt EF to locking EF and has rear ND filters.

I'll be getting the L-mount version. Still deciding on which PL-to-L adapter to purchase. Cage from either Tilta or Kondor Blue. Battery solution will be a CoreSWX98wh battery for simple minimalist set up, waiting on Tilta or Mid49 to create the FX6 style BP-U to V-mount plate for anything other than a minimalist set up. Purchasing the Rosette side plate. Media storage will be using cfexpress cards
CoreSWX makes great BPU batteries with USB-C and P-Tap for additional accessories. and a lot cheaper than the Sonys.
If you like the wooden handles, 8sinn make a super cool wooden rosette side grip, its a little pricier but looks sweet. that, the kondor blue wing grip and tiltas wooden side grips are my favs so far
It's good to hear the PYXIS is a product that doesn't replace the DSLR body. BMD is now providing more camera shape options. I have the original Hollyland M1 monitor and enjoy the convenience of built-in TX/RX.
To be honest I’m hooked on my iPhone 15 pro. I can make content for my brand effortlessly by airdropping to my new iPad Pro running DaVinci with a speed editor. I’m done chasing tech and now I’m just using what I know. It’s made my content and workflow that much better knowing all the ends and out. Next tech I’m buying this weekend is the Nucleus Nano 2. I’m obsessed with minimal setups.
Wait didn’t you say you were getting the ef mount? How are you planing on using drop in filters?
Just picked up the 5” and 7” Portkeys BM. I will also using the BM EVF. Batteries will be Core. They have a D-Tap built into them. Media, no go with Angelbird, I’ve had nothing but issues with them. Probably going Sandisk Pro Cinema. This camera will supplement my Sony Burano if a client wants raw and not a RED.
@Sniickerz_CH
Ай бұрын
Check at the Hedbox HED-BP95D BP-U battery, it has dual D-Tap ports instead of 1 with the Core. So one D-Tap to the Portkeys monitor and one left for anything extra, like a transmitter, or even a follow focus motor (though the focus motor could be powered up by the Portkeys BM monitors!
Kondor blue side handles are awesome, check those out.
Tilta or Smallrig will produce a V-mount to BP-U battery adapter to allow you to use a V-mount battery on the Pyxis. I can’t wait for the Pyxis to come out. I have everything ready for this camera. I purchased the camera, memory card, black magic video assist, and battery. I have lenses, matte box, lights, gimble, tripod, CineShooter, dolly, jib and many more.
If you want to continue using your V-mount batteries. They sell (including Tilta) BP-U to V-mount adapters. Only around $100.
Nice video. Exactly what I was looking for. Pls help - I ordered the EF mount version. Should I change it? The L mount seems to be the more popular advise. I own no cine lenses so would be buying. However, I am also minded about cost of lens brands. Would prefer to start with something affordable initially then possibly upgrade later. Thank you.

@@LucaHalma I later swapped for L. Thanks, Luca.
can you power the external monitor with the camera (battery) or is additional power needed?
If I get it, I’d get the sdi module for my Ninja V. For power I would go with v Mount using the new vmount plates that Kondor Blue announced with the small vmount batteries from SmallRig. In terms of mount, I like the idea of the pl mount for extra sturdiness and lens data pass through. Finally I already have my Tilta mirage matte box with a bunch of Vaxis IRNDs, mist, and polarizer filters.
Nitze has a black rosette side grip
The Vaxis Storm Cine 8" Monitor is fantastic. Look into it!
If I get that it’s going to be for anamorphic lens with DJI focus for sure
A locking EF to L adapter with a filter slot would be nice. Hopefully with a foot that can be mounted to rails or a cage (similar to Tilta’s RF adapters).
I'm a little confused as to why people think this camera is so incredible. Yes it's a box, but it's not a very small box. Why would you get this when you could get a BS1H, slap the video assist on it (you'll need an external monitor anyway for either camera) and still have Blackmagic raw. And that camera came out 3 years ago, and it has great autofocus and battery life. The Pyxis should have ditched the in-built screen and shipped with an external screen that can plug into one of the USB-C ports for monitoring and camera control, but still recorded Braw internally. And shrink it to BS1H size. That would have made it an amazing camera for rigging and gimbal work. As it stands now, you'd need a larger gimbal to accommodate it because it's too long and heavy. I only see this being a great camera for shoulder work, at which point get a used ursa mini 4.6K for the same price or less, and it will be far superior in many ways(unless you have to have full frame).
The bottom tripod mounts is oriented wierd, why did they line up the threads horizontally instead of vertically?
Monitor wise (even though I'm currently only using HDMI cameras) a long while ago I got the Fotga c50. Has both HDMI/SDI, runs dual batteries at 2000 nits. UI is a bit clumsy but it's still running and cheap as chips!
Where are you supposed to put a vmount if all the ports are flat on the back?
I once saw someone use the RED Komodo built-in screen on a gimbal and honestly for some project I could see using it, although obviously not a proper way of working
Oh nice I see me in the BG messing with a Pyxis too
So the Sony batteries are the only power option? No option for V or gold mount?
Which monitor is a tough choice. I think having camera control from a Portkeys monitor allows controlling the camera from a distance if it were ever on a jib; however, I have to say the integrated transmitter is a potentially really good option.
the wooden handle can be sanded down a bit and turned black fairly easily
not really going to consider the Blackmagic monitors? just came down in price by 200 each one. though I do also own the HollyLand enhanced....only that I wish it was brighter.
I’m sorry if this has already been asked but, why wouldn’t you go with a V-Mount battery?
@RenegadeFilmForce
Ай бұрын
Probably more bulk. Why do that when BP-U will get the job done with no additional heft? Especially on a gimbal...

Drop-in vnd… from EF to RF mount… not seeing this working on this camera. I’m honestly surprised they went with EF mount, and not the new RF mount, which would be more adaptable. I wonder 2 things. Will this camera have the gyro stabilization, and how is the autofocus?
@torgejoris9713
Ай бұрын
That's the point of the PYXIS, it's more professional than a Pocket... The RF mount is great, don't get me wrong, but for cine lenses EF is a common thing. That's also the reason for a non drop-in filter design. You can either use screwed filters or a matte box. Based on the specs of the PYXIS it's basically a BMPCC 6k Pro, so gyro stabilization works well, in DaVinci or Gyroflow shooting BRAW. The autofocus isn't continuously, it's "one shot" only, so after framing your imagine, you hit the button, the af does his job.. sometimes great, sometimes horribly bad
Hey Michael, I hear no-one talking about the top handle? Does the Pyxis come with that? I don't see it on the what's included list and ca't find it on the BMD site. Grtz

I have the BMPCC6K and enjoy it. But I dont see what all the hype of a box is? I can see where when traveling abroad that I will be looked at and denied entry to many locations. Ive been asked if I have a permit in London and Rome with my previous set up. Now I have it scaled down for traveling.

You can't use that MEIKE drop in filter adapter, because it's R-mount to EF, and the camera is already EF. If you're going to add drop in filters then you must go with the L-Mount version of the PYXIS, and get an L to EF adapter with drop in filters. That's the number one reason most people think the L-Mount version of the Pyxis is the best option, because one can add an ND Flange adapter.
maybe the usb port on the front can convert to hdmi? need an official black magic monitor over usb like the EVF with all the menus etc
Don’t want a built in monitor. I want a dedicated touch screen for functionality
I ordered the L mount version as all of my lenses are L mount with the exception of the Irix cine set which are EF. I have the Sigma EF to L adapter. I have the 7" Atomos Shinobi monitor as well as the BM 5". I ordered the two Sony batteries at 350 a piece....yikes! I guess I'll use my matte box for ND's. Hopefully timecode will work well with my Mix Pre 3 II.
For the monitor I was thinking about a portrays because of the onboard camera control
After getting my PYXIS I will do all accessories with my printer (to be custom to my need and taste) as I did it with Lumix.
This form factor is ideal for the Tilta Lightweight Shoulder Rig-which I already have. As for a monitor, I own a Portkeys 5 WR III which includes Bluetooth camera control. Works fine with the Pockets. Though I expect we will see plenty of USB-C powered alternatives coming out in the months the ahead. So don’t over spend on a monitor right away. A USB monitor won’t need batteries! Which will mean the rig will be lighter and will have a lower center of gravity (aka less likely to tip over when you put the camera down. Some should be very inexpensive as well. You can buy 11” USB-C laptop companion monitors for less than $100 on Amazon no separate video connection required. The Pyxis will be able to do the same and I expect BM will eventually roll out their own control monitor which will be a great addition to the system.
I would buy this camera in a heartbeat if a company could come out with an EF to L mount with drop in ND. Or a variable ND drop in. I don't mind the shape, I can get over the batteries. The screen not tilting is a big bummer, I really wanted an Ursa 4.6k update as I've been waiting for that, but I would buy it, possibly.
Is it not possible to use a usb-c to HDMI cable to a monitor on this? If the front USB-C port is a display port, then why would you not be able to run a monitor from it using a USB-C to HDMI cable? I know you won't have camera control from it, but a monitor should work, no?
Beyond ergonomics, a cube (which best fits with a cage, side handle and top handle, microphone attachment, viewfinder or control monitor) the fixed side LCD along with the function keys for menu settings becomes very uncomfortable for those who use Pyxis with the shooting operator alone. All this is a must to have a second operator in charge of navigating the menu. Unless an Atomos or Video Assist control monitor can show the Pyxis menu and dialogue on the touch screen but I don't think it can.
The batteries are the same used on the canon c100 II (Idk about other Canon cinema line but I used that) And they are much more performant than the 970s
Michelle , you are the wind beneath his wings. AS for the monitor, I think that there will be a solution by the time the camera ships. Maybe an App for USB-C smart devices.
I've seen many claim that the power connector for the PYXIS camera is the same of previous BM Cinema Cameras. Furthermore on the BH listing for the Blackmagic Design 12V Power Supply for Pocket Cinema Camera 4K (30W) claims to have compatibility with the PYXIS. Although I have noticed that based on photos and videos of the PYXIS the locking lug on the PYXIS is in-line with the pins whereas previous connectors, the Pocket 4K for example, the locking lug is perpendicular to the pins. Furthermore I've noticed that the end of the older cinema camera power adapter cord is female, but the power input on the PYXIS itself is female too. Does this mean the PYXIS will have a new power connector type?
